Chapter 6: She Witnessed An Unbelievable Sight

“Are you okay? I came over because I saw you collapsed. Do you need any help?”

‘Jung Eunseo…’

Lee Hyunseung immediately recognized her face and name.

She was one of the heroines in Broad Academy Online.

Jung Eunseo, a girl with exceptional skills, yet a unique and eccentric personality—warm but indifferent.

At this point, she was exploring the labyrinth in search of her grandfather’s lost inheritance.

Despite being admitted to Broad Academy, she had never attended any classes, so she was likely demoted to F-class by now.

However, her original class was Class A. If she hadn’t been wandering the labyrinth, she might have attended classes with me.

‘But why is Jung Eunseo on the first floor?’

The inheritance she was searching for, left behind by her grandfather, should be on the second floor of the labyrinth, as far as I recall.

But the place where I had collapsed was on the first floor, deep in a remote corner.

I had come here to enter the hidden place known as the Goddess’s Well, but I couldn’t understand why she was here.

Feeling confused, I replied, “I don’t need any help.”

“Is that so? Alright.”

After confirming that I was fine, Jung Eunseo responded in a formal tone and stepped back.

-Step

-Step

I thought about having a conversation with her but decided against it. I had too many things to take care of anyway.

‘First, let’s check the jobs I received from the well.’

[Legendary Gunslinger]
▶ Job Grade: Legendary

▶ Job Level: 1

▶ Allows you to handle firearms with exceptional skill.

▶ Increases the proficiency rate significantly each time you use a firearm.

▶ Additional damage is applied when attacking with firearms.

▶ Locked. Will be unlocked as the job level increases.

▶ Growth-type job. Unlocks special abilities as the job level rises.[Legendary Blacksmith]

▶ Job Grade: Legendary

▶ Job Level: 1

▶ Allows you to craft weapons of your choice.

▶ High probability of crafting rare or higher items.

▶ Significantly reduces crafting time.

▶ Locked. Will be unlocked as the job level increases.

▶ Growth-type job. Unlocks special abilities as the job level rises.

‘Jackpot. The Gunslinger is a bit of a trash job, but since it’s legendary, it should be somewhat useful.

On the other hand, the Blacksmith is undoubtedly a top-tier class.

It may lack combat power, but having two jobs balances things out.’

Even with the same job, the class level determines its quality.

For instance, the difference between an [Ordinary] Swordsman and a [Legendary] Swordsman is like heaven and earth.

So, while the Gunslinger job is often treated as trash compared to other classes, I wasn’t too disappointed because it carried the [Legendary] title.

It would perform well enough.

‘As far as I know, the Gunslinger class only goes up to Epic rank… How is this possible?’

The Gunslinger was a job mainly used by beginners and one that most people avoided if they could.

The reasons were simple. The job only went up to Epic rank, was weak, and cost a lot of money.

Gunslingers needed guns and bullets, both of which were extremely expensive in this world.

Even if someone managed to buy them at a high price, other classes like Swordsmen and Mages could deflect or block bullets, making the Gunslinger class one of the most underappreciated.

“A weak and inefficient job. But it’s different when paired with the blacksmith job.”

As the blacksmith level increases, you gain the ability to craft high-level weapons.

I even remember all the materials needed for crafting skills.

Recipes and weapons alike—I don’t need to buy them, so I can make efficient use of my resources.

By making and upgrading both guns and bullets to epic level or higher, they could easily become powerful enough to rival swordsmen or mages.

And being a [Legendary] gunman might mean I can show off much more power through guns than people think.

“Right, wanting more would be insane… Honestly, getting this much on the first floor is already more than enough.”

Two legendary jobs obtained as the reward for enduring the pain of cutting off my limbs and offering them to the Goddess’s Well.

The reward was excessive, but the Hidden Piece of the Goddess’s Well disappears once used by its discoverer.

That’s why its rewards are more generous than other Hidden Pieces.

“Plus, many people don’t know that you recover once you leave the area where the Goddess’s Well is located.”

Even if someone discovers the Hidden Piece of the Goddess’s Well, there are no instructions or explanations on how to use it.

If they happened to enter the hidden place by luck, they might just think, ‘Oh, there’s a pretty well here,’ and leave, causing it to disappear forever.

Even if they knew they had to make a sacrifice, they wouldn’t know they had to offer a part of their body.

And even if they figured that out, they wouldn’t know they could recover after cutting off a limb, so no one would go that far.

In other words, if it wasn’t for me, a 10-year veteran of Broad Academy Online, no one would’ve been able to utilize it this well. Of course, getting this kind of reward on the first floor was almost unbelievable.

“The pain was severe, but the reward is satisfying. For now, the jobs are enough. Now, I need to check my stats.”

[Status Window]

▶ Name: Lee Hyunseung

▶ Job: [Legendary] Gunman / [Legendary] Blacksmith

▶ Strength: 5 ▶ Stamina: 9 ▶ Luck: 7

▶ Durability: 6 ▶ Agility: 5 ▶ Dexterity: 8

▶ Traits: None

▶ Skills: None

▶ Remaining Stat Points: 3

“Thanks to entering the dungeon in an unawakened state, I gained stat points from unlocking a hidden achievement. I need to distribute them properly.”

From now on, I can’t afford to waste a single stat point.

Stats are hard to acquire, and there are Hidden Pieces that provide additional effects if a stat exceeds a certain limit.

“Sigh…”

After much thought, I allocated all the points to dexterity.

  • Allocating 3 points to Dexterity stat.
  • Dexterity stat increased to 11.
  • Remaining stat points: 0

Raising dexterity was the obvious choice. Both weapon crafting and guns require using ‘hands,’ so the higher the dexterity stat, the more efficient and skillful I become.

“But… as expected, the magic stat is still inactive.”

The magic stat is typically gained upon awakening most jobs.

However, even when a gunman job awakens, the magic stat is not acquired.

Magic is used for various things, including skills and physical enhancement.

Not having a magic stat is one of the biggest disadvantages of the gunman job, and one reason it’s looked down upon.

To compensate, gunmen use weapons with attached magic stats.

However, guns with magic stats are so expensive that common folk can’t even dream of affording them.

“Still, a legendary blacksmith should be able to make a gun with a magic stat.”

As long as I have the materials, I can make it anytime. Everything will be resolved eventually.

Even the lack of a magic stat can be fixed by making weapons. So, it’s not a problem.

“Oh, right.”

After awakening a job, there’s something I must do.

I imagined the image of a gun in my mind.

“As a perk for awakening your job, you receive a basic weapon.”

[Ragged Pistol]

▶ A ragged pistol with no special features.

▶ It is loaded with 15 bullets.

[Ragged Magazine x 5]

▶ Magazines loaded with 15 bullets each.

When you awaken a job, you receive one bonus—a basic weapon. Acquiring it is simple.

After awakening, you just imagine the weapon suitable for your job.

Of course, this is just a ‘basic’ weapon, as the name suggests. It doesn’t grow or have any special characteristics.

It’s merely meant to be a self-defense tool for unexpected situations. You never know when you might encounter monsters in a dungeon.

“Alright… I’ve got the basic weapon ready, and I’ve obtained a growth-type hidden job. All I need to do now is grow.”

With that thought, I continued walking.

But then, I kept hearing a strange sound from behind.

-Tock.

-Tock.

“What is that?”

When I quickly turned around, I saw Jung Eunseo, the one who had woken me up earlier.

-Swish.

When she saw me turn around, she pretended to look around the dungeon, feigning disinterest.

I resumed my path.

-Step.

-Tock.

-Step.

-Tock.

Again, she matched her movements to mine.

“Why is she doing this?”

A thought suddenly crossed my mind.

“Oh… that’s right, Jung Eunseo is terrible with directions.”

I wondered why she was still on the first floor instead of the second floor of the dungeon. It seemed she got lost. It wasn’t surprising.

The dungeon is vast and intimidating. It’s easy to lose your way if you’re not careful. That’s why people use artifacts similar to compasses to navigate.

“She must’ve lost her artifact. There’s no way she’d come without one.”

Jung Eunseo probably lost her compass, but I didn’t need such an artifact.

After playing the game for over 10 years, I memorized the layout of every dungeon. It’s not just in my head—my body remembers. I can navigate places like this with my eyes closed.

-Swish.

When I cautiously turned back, Jung Eunseo flinched and feigned disinterest again. I spoke to her directly, even though I already knew the answer, just out of courtesy.

“Is something wrong? Why are you following me?”

“I’m… I’m not following you; it’s a misunderstanding. I’m just looking around the dungeon.”

She stuttered, something unusual for her, while keeping a calm expression. For a moment, I felt annoyed and considered driving her away, but then a thought crossed my mind.

‘Jung Eunseo… she’s rich, isn’t she?’

Jung Eunseo is from a prominent guild family, meaning she has plenty of money.

‘I’ll need a lot of money in the future to craft weapons and various other things. Even if I can make them myself, I’ll still need materials… If I build a good relationship with her now, there will be many ways to take advantage of it.’

Having made up my mind, I spoke kindly to Jung Eunseo.

“Did you get lost? If so, I can help you.”

Jung Eunseo looked puzzled by my sudden change in attitude and replied.

“I… I told you, I’m not lost! Stop accusing me of that…”

She muttered something, then suddenly looked shocked and shouted at me.

“Behind you! Watch out!”

At that moment, a monster charged at me at an incredible speed.

It was one of the higher-level monsters that roamed the first floor of the dungeon.

‘Cruel Wolf’

A wolf-type monster that inflicts a debilitating status effect accompanied by intense pain if it bites you.

I stood still, watching it charge toward me.

Jung Eunseo, who was some distance away, ran toward me, shouting urgently.

“I told you to be careful! You can’t handle a Cruel Wolf with a gunslinger job! Run to me!”

Mana quickly flowed into her hands, likely preparing to cast a spell against the Cruel Wolf.

-Swish-

I raised the basic pistol with one hand and aimed at the Cruel Wolf.

“Are… are you crazy? You can’t beat a Cruel Wolf with a pistol…!”

The Cruel Wolf’s jaws reached right in front of my eyes.

“Growl!”

Just as it opened its mouth to devour me.

‘Now.’

I fired the gun.

-Bang-!

  • [Legendary] Gunslinger job trait: additional damage is applied to firearms.
