A pitch-black night shrouded the sky, and dark clouds pressed down upon the city, seemingly unable to stop the dew from seeping through.
The pure white moon revealed a faint smile from behind the black clouds, but alas, no one noticed it.
A somber atmosphere surrounded an abandoned factory, and the thick stench of blood permeated the air.
“Drip… drip… drip.”
Fresh, bright blood dripped continuously onto the concrete floor; due to the surrounding darkness, its color was indistinguishable.
“He’s over there!
Fire!
Fire!”
Following a man’s roar, a hailstorm of bullets, like the most massive meteor shower, descended upon this world.
Wisps of gunpowder smoke rose continuously from the muzzles as countless bullets streaked across the sky, leaving only a thunderous roar in their wake.
“Damn it…” a man in black panted heavily, leaning against a shipping container.
The dark patches on his shirt, different from the rest of the fabric, revealed his injuries.
The man pressed his palm firmly against the wound, his face devoid of expression, as a few drops of cold sweat trickled down his forehead.
“Da… da… da…”
As the footsteps drew closer, the man slowly drew a pistol from his waist, his other hand instinctively joining it to assume a vigilant stance.
However… the man’s gaze wasn’t fixed ahead, but rather on the floor, carefully observing the movement of the shadows.
The moment that dark silhouette stepped past the edge, the man struck swiftly, firing several bullets that zipped past the bodies of the newcomers.
They hadn’t even realized he had opened fire before the bullets had already buried themselves deep in their chests.
The night rain fell, washing away the last vestiges of their vengeful souls.
After doing all this, the man couldn’t help but collapse on the spot, his breathing becoming even more rapid than before.
“Hah… hah… hah…”
The man’s name was Sui Ming, and he was a professional assassin.
His codename was [Ghost], and his reputation in the industry was as resounding as a death knell.
Maintaining a mission completion rate of over ninety-five percent, this assassin known as [Ghost] had always held the top spot on the assassin rankings, indisputably.
So why would such an elusive and formidable assassin fall into such a predicament?
It had all begun a day earlier—
“Ding-dong.”
The notification sound from his phone caught the attention of a white-haired man.
[Ten million. Chairman Wang Xi of Wang Heavy Industries. You in?]
The message still came from that same string of unknown, garbled code; these clients really went to great lengths to prevent leaks.
“Sigh—” Sui Ming sighed.
He silently typed a one-word reply to the message:
[Okay.]
Then he quickly turned off his phone’s screen.
‘One last job.
Really, just this one last time, and I can escape this hellish life.’
Because Sui Ming’s parents had left him a great “fortune” of debt before they died, he had been plagued by it since birth, leaving him with no choice but to take up the profession of an assassin.
As the saying goes, all the quick ways to make money are written in the criminal code, and that’s absolutely right.
But how could he not want to live a peaceful life?
How could he not want to escape this daily routine of licking blood from a blade’s edge?
It was just that the endless debt collection messages clung to him like vengeful spirits, refusing to let go.
And now, with just this one last job, he could not only pay off all his old debts but also have enough left over to live out his golden years in peace.
Glancing at the familiar rented room around him, Sui Ming couldn’t help but sigh.
“Goodbye, this house that has been with me for ten years.
I suppose we won’t be seeing each other again, will we?”
After speaking, Sui Ming shouldered an unknown, pitch-black instrument case and walked out, his figure disappearing into the heavy rain.
Wang Corporation Docks—
As the downpour refused to subside, it seemed that Chairman Wang had never appeared.
He had received confirmed information that Chairman Wang would be coming to the warehouse here tonight for a clandestine rendezvous.
This kind of affair was generally not publicized; after all, it was better not to be too brazen about matters that would tarnish the corporation’s image.
And Sui Ming had counted on that very point; such a covert matter usually meant the person involved would not bring any bodyguards.
For Sui Ming, an opportunity like this couldn’t be better.
However, this heavy rain had shattered all his plans.
Originally, he only needed to set up a sniper rifle in a nearby tall building and wait, but this sudden rain and fog had disrupted his scheme.
At this rate, he could only go down and handle it personally, which would undoubtedly increase his own risk.
But the mission had to be completed.
After all, the deposit had already been paid, and transferring the job would be quite troublesome.
Even so, the darkness shrouding the entire city did offer Sui Ming many advantages; he had even dealt with some of the surrounding security and guards with little difficulty.
His sharp eyes pierced through the layers of fog and saw the richly dressed young master, who at this moment was embracing a popular female star.
On the rather messy floor lay some of their… indescribable clothing, and there were even unknown liquids scattered about, making the scene utterly absurd.
Sui Ming had long since grown accustomed to such playboys; he had no idea how many souls of their kind he had claimed.
But just as he was about to pull the trigger, a whistling sound shot towards him from a distance.
Sui Ming twisted his body at the last second, but the bullet still accurately pierced his lung.
A mouthful of fresh blood gushed out, and the man couldn’t help but let out a muffled grunt.
This bullet was clearly aimed at his heart.
The other party was obviously waiting for this very moment, waiting for him to appear, and then to kill him with a single shot.
This was not a simple mission at all!
Without realizing it, he had transformed from a hunting wolf into a cornered elk.
He had to escape this place, now!
And with the sound of the gunshot, the enemy had deliberately not used a suppressor, precisely to make everyone notice the disturbance here.
Before Sui Ming could even react, a torrent of bullets poured down, aimed straight at his body.
Fortunately, that shot had only affected his ability to breathe and hadn’t restricted his physical movements.
And that was the beginning of the story.
And now, this was its end.
The entire dock was already tightly surrounded; there was absolutely no possibility of escape for Sui Ming.
And so, the man seemed to give up resisting, his body collapsing limply onto the concrete floor.
Feeling the raindrops fall on him one by one, Sui Ming only felt a sense of ease.
It was a feeling of release, an unparalleled freedom.
“Perhaps… the next life… will be better?” Sui Ming murmured.
And just as his eyes were about to close, a snow-white figure slowly walked into the periphery of his vision.
The corners of the woman’s mouth were turned up in a joyous smile, as if she had just found a priceless treasure.
“So… I’ve finally found you… my…”
