The original Zhou Yining’s private space was just this small – a single bed right next to a desk.
Zhou Yining sighed, feeling some sympathy for the original owner of this body living in such an environment.
Having only been in this world for a day, she could already tell that the original Zhou Yining had little status in this family, just a marginalized person being raised by her parents to support her brother.
She straightened up the narrow single bed and lay down on it, her brain still racing.
She took out her phone and started searching online for contact information for publishing houses, as well as submission guidelines for magazines.
She couldn’t be without money; the feeling was too passive.
But she was still in school and didn’t have time for a part-time job.
The best way was to earn her first pot of gold through her old profession.
The original Zhou Yining’s family had a computer, but it was in Zhou Jiaming’s room, so she obviously couldn’t use it.
That meant she had to find a way to go to an internet cafe.
Thinking this, Zhou Yining saved all the submission addresses she found, then closed her eyes.
At 5:30 in the morning, Zhou Yining’s alarm went off.
She groggily climbed out of bed, and as she got up to wash, she saw Zhou Yuanfei sitting at the dining table waiting for breakfast in the living room.
Zhou Yining only glanced at him and prepared to wash up, but who knew Zhou Yuanfei would suddenly flare up?
“Didn’t you see me? Why aren’t you greeting me? The older you get, the less respect you show. I think you’re wasting your time in high school.”
Zhou Yining cast a cold glance over.
“What’s with the early morning madness? What’s wrong? Got scolded outside and didn’t dare to talk back, so you’re coming home to find a sense of importance?”
“Zhou Yining, is that how you talk to your father? I’ve raised you for nothing!” Zhou Yuanfei exploded on the spot, slamming his hand heavily on the table.
Zhou Jiaming, hearing the commotion, came out of his bedroom.
Seeing Zhou Yuanfei getting angry at Zhou Yining, he immediately walked over to Zhou Yuanfei’s side, not forgetting to add fuel to the fire:
“Dad, she’s been acting strange since yesterday. She never liked eating meat before, but yesterday she insisted on stealing my lion’s head meatballs and even argued with Mom. I think she needs a beating.”
Hearing this, Zhou Yuanfei’s anger flared up even more.
“You’ve got a nerve, daring to snatch your brother’s things. Zhou Yining, let me tell you, I’ve already done more than enough raising you to 18. Don’t even think about comparing yourself to your brother.”
Zhou Yining was amused to the point of laughter; she had only been passing by in the early morning and was bitten by two mad dogs.
She took out her phone, turned on the recording function, put the phone in her pocket, and then spoke.
“What is it? Are only sons considered your children in this family? Are daughters not?”
“Hmph, having a daughter like you is no different from not having one at all. It was better before when you at least wouldn’t talk back. Now it’s gotten to the point where I’ve raised an enemy.”
He took a deep breath and continued to scold.
“Also, your brother’s grades are better than yours. In the future, your mother and I will still have to rely on your brother to support us in our old age. Can I count on you?”
Zhou Yining looked coldly at Zhou Yuanfei.
“You can’t count on me. Anyway, you have your precious, good son.”
“You’re rebelling!” Zhou Yuanfei didn’t expect Zhou Yining to continue talking back.
Feeling like he was losing face, he slammed his hand on the table again.
Zhao Xiuna came out carrying steaming hot fried dough sticks, and quickly advised, “Alright, alright, say a few words less, both of you. Yining is about to be a senior in high school, and she’s under a lot of pressure. Her dad, don’t hold it against her.”
Saying that, Zhao Xiuna looked at Zhou Yining again.
“And you, how can you talk to your father like that? Your dad works so hard outside, isn’t it all for you? How can you not take care of your dad in the future?”
Zhou Yining was so angry she laughed.
“How is it all for me? I think it’s all for his precious, good son, right?”
“Rebelling, rebelling, Zhou Yining, let me tell you, with your attitude, I’ll only support you until you finish high school. After high school, you can fend for yourself. If you get into college, I won’t pay your tuition.”
Zhou Yining sneered.
“So that’s what you were waiting for me to say? Fine, after I get into college, I won’t come back. You don’t have to bear the cost of my college education. Of course, don’t expect me to support you in the future either, but you don’t need me to support you anyway, since you still have your precious son.”
After Zhou Yining finished speaking, she ignored Zhao Xiuna’s winks and went straight to the bathroom.
Zhou Yuanfei, enraged, was about to rush over and grab Zhou Yining, but Zhao Xiuna stopped him.
“Alright, alright, why so much anger so early in the morning? Stop arguing, let’s eat first.”
“Isn’t it all because of her? Fine, you’ve all heard it. She said it herself, after graduating from high school, she won’t need us to take care of her. I’ll see how she manages on her own then?” Zhou Yuanfei continued angrily.
“That’s right, let’s not bother with her then.” Zhou Jiaming chimed in from the side.
Zhao Xiuna glared at her son, then turned and went back to the kitchen to bring out fried tofu soup for Zhou Yuanfei and Zhou Jiaming.
After thinking about it, she still went to the bathroom.
Zhou Yining had just finished washing her face and was using a towel to wipe her wet bangs when she saw Zhao Xiuna come in.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
Zhao Xiuna secretly took out twenty yuan from her pocket and stuffed it into Zhou Yining’s school uniform pocket.
She whispered, “Your dad’s company is laying off people recently, and the monthly bonuses have also been reduced. He’s in a bad mood, he’s not deliberately targeting you. Buy some breakfast on the way to school later and don’t argue with him anymore, okay?”
Zhou Yining didn’t say anything, but nodded anyway.
Besides buying breakfast, this twenty yuan should also leave some money to go to the internet cafe.
She planned to come back a little later in the evening and go to the internet cafe to write something to submit.
Seeing that she didn’t say anything, Zhao Xiuna sighed and left.
Zhou Yining tidied herself up, then returned to her single bed, grabbed her bag, and left the house.
Zhou Yuanfei cursed angrily, “Outrageous, she doesn’t even respect me now. How can we expect her to take care of us in the future?”
“That’s right, if you ask me, she should get married earlier and bring back some betrothal money to subsidize the family.” Zhou Jiaming echoed.
“Hmph, I think so too.” Zhou Yuanfei nodded in agreement.
“Alright, say a few words less. It’s just a moment of anger, what marriage are you talking about?” Zhao Xiuna chuckled, trying to gloss over the matter.
“Why can’t she get married? In our hometown, there are plenty of people who get married at her age. I’ve already raised her for several years more. When she gets married, we should at least get back 200,000 yuan in betrothal money.”
“That’s right, Dad, you’re absolutely right.” Zhou Jiaming echoed.
Zhou Yining didn’t know about this yet, as she carried her bag with only a few books in it and walked towards the outside of the residential area.
It was not yet six o’clock, but many breakfast stalls had already been set up.
Zhou Yining picked a small shop near the school that looked relatively clean and sat down.
She ordered a fried dough stick and a bowl of tofu pudding, spending five yuan.
Zhou Yining added chive flowers and chili to the tofu pudding, and then ate it with the fried dough stick.
It had to be said, freshly fried dough sticks were indeed delicious, and paired with the smooth and tender tofu pudding, Zhou Yining’s mood improved.
As she was eating breakfast, Jiang Xizhi happened to pass by in a car.
She always ate breakfast at home, but now seeing Zhou Yining sitting at a roadside stall and eating so deliciously, she couldn’t help but become curious.
Was roadside food really that delicious?
Jiang Xizhi glanced at the time and saw that there was still a while before class, so she simply had the driver stop the car by the side of the road.
Zhou Yining had already finished most of her fried dough stick when she heard someone call her.
She turned back and saw that it was Jiang Xizhi.
“You’re here? Have you had breakfast? Do you want to eat something together?” Zhou Yining asked warmly, after all, she still needed Jiang Xizhi’s help with the confession wall issue.
Jiang Xizhi looked at the somewhat blackened oil pot, curled her lips, and shook her head.
Her mother said that these outside breakfast stalls were all junk food.
How could Zhou Yining eat so deliciously?
“I’ve already eaten.” Jiang Xizhi was now regretting getting out of the car.
She stood here and was out of place with this small stall.
Zhou Yining, however, took a tissue and wiped the stool next to her again and again, then smiled at Jiang Xizhi.
“Sit down for a while, wait for me, I’ll finish eating soon, and we can talk about the confession wall issue.”
Seeing that Zhou Yining had already wiped the stool for her, Jiang Xizhi couldn’t refuse to give Zhou Yining face.
The young miss reluctantly sat down, but her eyes curiously scanned the things in Zhou Yining’s bowl.
Zhou Yining ate with gusto, and Jiang Xizhi smacked her lips, unable to help but become even more curious about what Zhou Yining was eating, but there was no way she could say it.
A few minutes later, Zhou Yining quickly finished her breakfast, paid the bill, and then walked towards the school with Jiang Xizhi.
“By the way, I’ve already had people investigate the confession wall issue. There should be news today, and I’ll tell you on WeChat when I do.”
“Okay, thank you.” Zhou Yining felt slightly relieved.
The original owner of this body was simply full of trouble, and she needed to slowly deal with all these things.
“You’re welcome. By the way, do you usually eat breakfast at roadside stalls?”
“No, I had a fight with my family, so I couldn’t eat at home. I just ate something outside, but the tofu pudding here is really delicious.” Zhou Yining said with a smile.
Fortunately, she wasn’t the original Zhou Yining.
If she had been, she would have been devastated by what her father and brother had said, right?
Before she transmigrated, the original Zhou Yining must have experienced countless harsh words.
She had to find a way to extract herself from this son-loving family, and she had to leave enough evidence to prove that this family treated their daughter harshly, otherwise it would be a troublesome matter in the future.
