March 12th.
This was the third day of their transfer, and they had reached the edge of A City. The sky was still filled with oppressive black clouds, making people feel anxious.
After several detours, they encountered more than one zombie horde counted in the thousands, but fortunately, they avoided them all without any danger. Of course, the most important thing was that this semi-trailer was indeed tough enough.
Even zombies that had evolved again could still be crushed easily.
But today, this semi-trailer had completely given out. Its front was in a dilapidated state, the red paint was mottled, and the crash bar was only fixed by one screw, creaking.
For some reason, the air was unusually foul, and the smell of decay almost lingered at the tip of her nose. The girl frowned, feeling that something was unusual.
The group jumped out of the semi-trailer, carefully making no noise, and searched for new vehicles in a small town.
“Roar…”
The ground was cracked, with several oddly shaped black sinkholes. Unevenly covered with dust, a shoe soaked in black blood stepped on it. Ping Chengcheng vigilantly observed the road, in the middle of which stood a zombie, swaying.
Although it seemed that there was only this one, who knew how many zombies were in the nearby houses, corners, or after a turn not far away?
At the same time, Ping Chengcheng looked solemnly at those sinkholes, searching in her mind for what kind of infected could create such destruction.
“Sis, I’ll take care of that zombie.” The girl said softly, her eyes sharp as she drew out the slightly modified bone blade.
Ping Chengcheng lowered her body slightly, her legs suddenly exerting force, her footsteps extremely light. She arrived behind the zombie in less than a second, and the bone blade cleanly pierced its head.
The girl gently supported the zombie’s body and placed it on the ground.
“Huff~” No sound was made.
Ping Chengcheng seemed to be getting stronger and stronger. Could Evolvers continue to become stronger?
Song Ning frowned. Her specialty before was speed, but now, it seemed that the girl’s speed was a lot faster than hers.
Then, how could she become stronger? Recently, Song Ning had also felt something. She could feel her thinking and dynamic vision getting better and better every day, and her control over her body was becoming more and more skillful.
But… these things were temporarily useless now.
The four gathered together and continued to look for usable transportation. At least they needed something like a semi-trailer; ordinary cars couldn’t withstand the ravages of the apocalypse.
After passing a corner, a zombie’s frantic roar suddenly came out, as well as a series of light but rapid footsteps.
Someone!?
Although that person had tried their best not to make a sound, it was useless. The zombies relied on roars to transmit information. In just a moment, all the zombies within a certain range went berserk.
“Roar roar roar!”
“Roar!”
Roar after roar, the silent town quickly awakened!
“Damn!” Wu Sheng’s eyes widened, cursing his bad luck.
“Retreat quickly!” Song Ning’s face was ugly, and she took a few steps back, seeing that several zombies had already darted out from various twisted corners.
Ping Chengcheng brought up the rear, using the bone blade to clear the zombies that were chasing up, while turning her head to try to see who had alarmed the zombie horde.
It was a girl about 1.6 meters tall, carrying a khaki backpack and holding a black crowbar! She was wearing a heavy down jacket, her whole body wrapped in cardboard, which was used to defend against zombie bites.
Seeing Ping Chengcheng and the others, her eyes hesitated for a moment, then instantly became firm, as if she had caught a lifeline, and desperately charged towards Ping Chengcheng.
“Save, save me!”
Dozens of zombies were chasing her, rushing towards Ping Chengcheng!
Damn it!
Instantly, the girl’s initial impression of her was extremely poor, wishing she could kill her right now!
But there were more and more zombies around, so she had to do her best to clear the surrounding crazy zombie horde, creating a good environment for Song Ning and the others to break through.
It didn’t matter whether they fired guns or not now. The four of them took down their firearms from their sides and fired without restraint, blood splattering everywhere, and the smell of rust filled the air, adding a touch of bloodiness to the zombie chase.
Quickly breaking out of the town, the girl shot down a few chasing zombies and looked back. The crowbar girl had actually followed!
There were still dozens of zombies following behind her.
She hadn’t been torn apart by the zombie horde?
Ping Chengcheng was slightly surprised, looking at her with a cold expression and raising her gun to clean up the zombies behind her.
“Sis, she’s the one who attracted the zombies.”
The crowbar girl ran up to them, panting. If it weren’t for Ping Chengcheng and the others breaking through in front, clearing out a lot of obstructive zombies, she would have had no chance of surviving.
Therefore, her attitude was very good, looking at the girl’s cold expression and lowering her head guiltily: “I’m sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose.”
“Hmph.” The girl turned her head away, not saying anything.
Song Ning stepped forward and walked to the crowbar girl: “Are you a survivor here?”
“Do you know the situation around here? Are you the only one alive?”
The crowbar girl looked at Ping Chengcheng, scratching her head awkwardly. She couldn’t help it. To survive, she could only do this.
The girl looked at Song Ning, nodding with a sad expression: “I know the situation around here pretty well.”
“I’ve been here since the beginning of the apocalypse. So far, I guess I’m the only one alive in this town.”
Song Ning nodded: “Introduce yourself, and tell us what you know.”
“My name is Zheng Zhiyi.”
“Originally, there were more than a dozen survivors here, but…” Her eyes became scattered, as if she had thought of something terrible.
Ping Chengcheng observed this scene, feeling a little curious.
“Have you seen… something that looks like a worm?”
“It’s very big, blood red. It’s as long as two classrooms put together.” Zheng Zhiyi said, her small face with a trace of blood turning pale.
Ping Chengcheng’s expression immediately turned ugly after hearing this.
This…
She remembered a thunderous name!
Flesh Worm!
According to the ranking of variant bodies three years after the apocalypse, it ranked 19th, the famous Disaster Worm.
Ping Chengcheng suddenly remembered that when she killed the first zombie in the town with a bone blade just now, she had seen the sinkholes on the ground. That was probably the work of the Flesh Worm.
Ping Chengcheng had never seen this worm in her previous life. Its risk factor was very high, and, in her previous life, she had never heard of anyone being able to escape from its territory.
So now, were they in the Flesh Worm’s territory!?
Her legs trembled slightly, and the girl’s heart beat violently. With her ability, escaping might not be difficult, but…
What about Song Ning?
The Variant Body Illustrated Guide stated that the Flesh Worm’s habitat was a pool of blood that would never dry up, which seemed to be the worm’s own secretions.
And they would store food in a certain organ of their body, which meant that the people it ate might not die immediately, and could even live for quite a long time if they were lucky.
Zheng Zhiyi coughed, having run too hard just now. She was a little thirsty: “It was that worm. Just yesterday, when we came out to search for supplies.”
“The ground suddenly trembled, and with a “boom,” it drilled out and ate them!”
“Only I survived.”
Zheng Zhiyi’s tears fell.
“My… my brother… was eaten by it!”
