“Ylenia, take this document to the registrar’s office.”
“Ylenia, we’re out of drinking water. Fetch a bucket.”
“Ylenia, too many students are registering. Help record their information.”
All morning, Ylenia’s ears rang with endless calls.
Her legs hadn’t stopped moving, and as a pampered noble girl, she’d never endured such hardship.
But after slacking off too much last semester, she needed to earn credits to avoid a worse fate at term’s end.
Reluctantly, she took on grueling volunteer tasks for meager points.
Her carefully applied makeup was ruined by sweat, but her natural beauty shone through after wiping it off. Dabbing her forehead with a handkerchief, Ylenia scribbled down details of one registrant after another.
“Name?”
“George Lucen.”
“Gender?”
“Male.”
“Age?”
“Fifteen.”
“Address?”
“East District, Norling City…”
Swiftly recording George’s details and collecting his fee, Ylenia moved to the next student.
The flood of registrants left her no time to look up. But when the next student approached, a faint, elegant fragrance wafted to her nose. In the crowded, sweaty environment, such a pleasant scent was a first.
Surprised, she looked up to see who carried such a fragrance.
Her tired eyes widened at the sight: silky black hair, matching dark eyes, delicate features, and cherry lips paired with flawless, fair skin rivaling her own.
The girl’s simple dress accentuated her youthful figure, but her serene, refined face—like a pure white lily—captivated most, exuding tranquility and calm.
She was the most beautiful girl Ylenia had seen all day. After countless ordinary faces, this stunning presence left her momentarily dazed.
“Excuse me, is it my turn?” the girl’s melodic voice snapped Ylenia back to reality.
Embarrassed, Ylenia smiled awkwardly at the girl’s earnest, caring eyes. “Sorry, I was distracted.”
“It’s fine, but we should hurry—others are waiting,” the girl said kindly.
What a considerate girl! Ylenia’s impression of her rose. Her personality made one want to draw closer.
“Alright, your name?” Ylenia asked.
“Selina, no surname.”
Ylenia noted it, surprised. She’d assumed this refined girl was noble, yet she was a commoner without a surname.
“Gender?”
“Female,” Selina replied after a brief pause, her tone calm.
“Address?”
“Narcissus Street, Jiwara Town.”
Selina answered methodically, as if reciting a script.
“And your preferred department?”
“Warrior Department.”
Ylenia froze, looking up to confirm. “You’re sure? The Warrior Department?”
In her experience, Warrior Department applicants were typically burly males.
Some women applied, but the training often resulted in muscular builds, even for females—except for her speed-specialized senior, whose figure remained graceful, unlike the bulky male warriors.
Eyeing Selina’s slender frame, Ylenia couldn’t imagine her among the robust warrior candidates.
“No mistake. I’m applying for the Warrior Department,” Selina affirmed.
What a joke. To play the underdog and rise at Tianqi, Selina needed her strongest suit.
Her elven body had decent magical talent, but her divine-blessed physique made the Warrior Department the safer choice.
Testing her magical affinity risked overloading the academy’s basic testing stone, exposing her identity before she even enrolled. Tianqi’s higher-ups could uncover anyone’s secrets in minutes.
“Want to reconsider?” Ylenia asked, concerned.
“No need. The Warrior Department suits me,” Selina said firmly, dispelling Ylenia’s doubts.
Sighing, Ylenia recorded the details and handed Selina an identity token with a gentle tone.
“Keep this. Be at the registration point at 8 a.m. tomorrow for testing. Temporary dorms are provided for applicants. If you need anything, find me or another mentor.”
She’d never given such detailed instructions before—too many students to bother. But for a pretty, sensible girl like Selina, she made an exception.
Nodding, Selina took the token and left the line, weaving through the crowd.
“Next,” Ylenia called, resuming the repetitive task until her form was full and a supervising teacher returned, giving her a break.
Carrying the completed forms to the registrar, Ylenia paused, scanning the names.
Her eyes lingered on Selina, written in neat script. After a moment’s thought, she pulled out a quill and added a note to Selina’s department preferences.
Though unsure why Selina avoided the Magic Department, Ylenia sensed her potent magical aura.
It was a pity for such talent to go unused. Adding the Magic Department as a secondary choice wouldn’t violate Selina’s wishes—academy rules allowed dual applications, with admission based on the better test score.
Satisfied with her good deed, Ylenia hummed a tune, tucked the forms under her arm, and skipped toward the registrar’s office.
