“Burp~ Since becoming a girl, my appetite seems to have shrunk.”
After lunch, I lay spread-eagled on the bed, gently patting my slightly bloated stomach.
A single can—barely the size of two palms—had left me this full.
Back when I was a man, that would’ve only been enough to take the edge off my hunger.
Lying alone in the warm sunlight, I prepared to nap.
Winter was approaching.
This kind of warmth might not return for the next six months.
Since the nuclear war ended, the world had only two seasons—spring and winter.
Either endless sunlight… or biting cold.
“Open up. Open up.”
Just as I closed my eyes, a cold, sharp voice cut through from outside.
“Coming, coming!”
I flipped upright like a carp, slipped on the slippers by the bed, and hurried to the door, feet slapping against the floor.
Standing there was a woman in a black suit.
Chestnut curls framed her face. Her blue eyes were emotionless.
Her face was long, refined, with healthy, tanned skin that looked firm and elastic.
Her lips were tightly shut—she didn’t look like someone easy to get along with.
Her chest was vast—like a bulletproof shield. Broad shoulders, built like a double-door refrigerator.
She stood about 1.7 meters—half a head taller than me.
From her right sleeve, a metallic silver hand emerged, gleaming under the sun.
I recognized her.
Qin Dai—Zhou Qiuqin’s top enforcer, a cyborg.
Her job? Collecting tributes for the leader from across the camp.
Honestly, most people didn’t fear her.
The leader didn’t demand much.
Farmers only had to hand over one-twentieth of their harvest.
Yes—survivor camps allowed civilians to farm on the few remaining uncontaminated plots of land.
In exchange, they paid taxes in food.
Something felt off, though.
I’m just a useless freeloader.
Why send a cyborg to collect my supplies?
Rumors said these enhanced humans could lift several tons with ease.
“I’m Qin Dai. Hello, Miss Qin Yue. I’m here to collect your tribute. Please cooperate.”
She gave a cold introduction, then shoved past me, stepping into my house.
“Huh? But I thought you only came on weekends?”
Pushed aside, I stumbled, barely catching myself on the bookshelf.
Seriously, why am I so weak now?
If I’d fallen, I’d have been mocked mercilessly.
Damn it… I grumbled internally.
But I was glad—thankfully, I hadn’t slacked off. I’d hidden my life-saving food and water earlier.
“Miss Qin Yue, Saturday is part of the weekend.”
Without turning, Qin Dai marched toward the pile of crates in the corner.
One by one, she opened them, inspecting the contents.
Was it my imagination, or was her back growing stiffer with each box?
“That’s all you have?”
After finishing the crates, she lifted her head, scanning my tiny room.
Then, in a sudden burst of anger, she flipped the boxes over.
Ivory carvings, ceramic antiques, scattered figurines—spilled across the floor like trash.
“Haha, sorry… this is all I’ve got. Useless junk. I’m not a farmer, so I don’t have any grain stored. But I still have the meat cans they distributed last time—take them back for the leader.”
Rubbing the back of my head, I laughed awkwardly.
My act was flawless—I believed no one could see through it.
Everyone in the neighborhood knew I was a lazy good-for-nothing, never worked a day.
So of course my house would be empty.
“Miss Qin Yue, don’t lie to me. I know you—you’re a born liar.”
In a flash, Qin Dai appeared in front of me, her mechanical hand gripping my wrist, slamming me against the wall.
Again? Am I being wall-bumped again?
Two days in a row, by two different women…
Is my inner femininity awakening?
Also—Miss Qin Dai, how do you even know I’m a liar? We’ve never met!
“Haha… I’m not lying. I really have no food left. See? That canned meat on the shelf is my last meal.”
I forced a single tear, playing the part of the wronged, fragile girl.
I knew physical weakness could be a weapon—used to manipulate, not just to look pretty and cry.
“Hmph. Is this the same act you used to trick Yueyue? Pathetic.”
Qin Dai wasn’t fooled.
If anything, she tightened her grip—pain shot through my wrist.
“Huh?”
I tilted my head, genuinely confused.
Yueyue? Who was that? Another one of my exes I’d stolen from her lover?
Sorry, but I’ve slept with too many girls to remember their names.
But judging by Qin Dai’s expression…
Yueyue must’ve been her lover.
Trash~ trash~ I stole your girlfriend so easily. Sorry about that~
Big sis, pressing me against the wall like this… will your dead lover be jealous?
Oh, wait—I forgot. She liked me more than you anyway.
I screamed those words in my mind, daring death itself.
But I’d never say them aloud.
“What if I find your hidden supplies?”
She released my wrist, stepping back.
No longer pinning me, she stood tall, her gaze sharp, invasive.
Shit…
I had a bad feeling.
If she caught me lying… I’d die horribly.
Should I just hand over the stash?
No way.
Every can, every bottle—I’d gathered them through cunning, lies, and manipulation.
I’d bet she wouldn’t find it.
Gamblers only win when they go all in.
“Well then,” I said, massaging my red, bruised wrist, “if you find them… I’ll let you do whatever you want with me, Miss Qin Dai.”
I stepped aside, standing by the door—gesturing openly, showing I wouldn’t interfere.
A performance of innocence.
Then, crouching by the entrance, I watched her—silent, feigning helplessness.
I was confident.
I’d hidden the stash well.
I’d even spread the same layer of dust over the loose floorboard under the bed—no visible difference.
Inside the hidden compartment, I’d filled the gaps with soil and sand.
Even if stepped on, it wouldn’t creak.
“That’s what you said.”
Glancing at me crouched on the floor, Qin Dai reached into her pocket and pulled out a monocle.
She placed it over her left eye—and began scanning the room again, inch by inch.
“Gulp…”
Okay.
I admit it.
I regretted it.
In recent years, due to constant conflicts between survivor camps, technology had advanced rapidly.
And I had no idea what high-tech tools Qin Dai—the leader’s trusted enforcer—might possess.
