Half a day later, Qin Yan and Yu Qingxuan, accompanying the Wen family, arrived at the site where the immortal’s abode was manifesting.
Throughout their journey, conversations among the Wen family members provided them with a general understanding of the unfolding situation.
It was revealed that a peak Golden Core cultivator had passed away in this very spot. As years turned into decades, the immortal’s abode’s protective enchantments had developed a flaw, allowing the surrounding families to sense the emergence of a treasure within.
Indeed, the surrounding families.
Currently, they stood amidst the towering peaks of Mount Cangwu, where mountain ranges stretched endlessly before their eyes.
The Wen family was not alone; before the immortal’s abode, its enchantments now visibly breached, stood members of two other prominent families: the Yang family from Emerald Forest City and the Wang family from Rainbow City.
Both of these families hailed from the vicinity of Mount Cangwu.
“The Wen family sisters have arrived as well.”
“Let’s begin swiftly, before we draw unwanted attention.”
“Then let us commence.”
Wen He of the Wen family observed the other two contingents; the Yang family numbered only five, while the Wang family boasted a full seven members.
Having cultivated their influence in this region for many years, their respective families had engaged in both disputes and collaborations over their interests, making them all familiar acquaintances. This time, both the Yang and Wang families were led by their eldest sons, the prodigious talents of their clans.
Whenever mystic treasures or immortal abodes manifested, it was an unwritten rule among cultivation families to allow the younger generation to contend for them, thereby preventing major conflicts among the elders.
Yu Qingxuan observed the dozen or so individuals before her. The highest cultivation level among them was only Foundation Establishment fifth layer, belonging to the cultivator in the yellow dress, while Wen He of the Wen family and another cultivator in a green robe were both at the Foundation Establishment third layer.
She was like a shark, silently lurking amongst a school of fish.
‘This is a sure thing!’
Qin Yan watched his senior sister, sensing the devious smile playing on her lips even though it was hidden by her veil. ‘She truly is a schemer,’ he thought.
It was at this very moment that the three families, uniting their strengths, began to breach the immortal’s abode’s enchantments. Immediately, a dazzling array of colors erupted, with flying swords streaking across the sky, each strike against the enchantments causing them to ripple with faint light.
Boom—
Following the explosive sound, a fissure tore open in the space before everyone.
The immortal’s abode’s great gate had been breached!
The three great families exchanged glances, and without uttering a single superfluous word, led the sisters of their respective families as they surged towards the fissure!
“Let’s go!”
Wen He called out in a low, grave tone.
The Wen family members, along with Qin Yan and Yu Qingxuan, naturally followed suit, pouring into the fissure right behind the others.
Meanwhile, from a dim, unnoticed corner, an inconspicuous little insect followed closely behind…
****
Following his senior sister’s footsteps, Qin Yan stepped into the fissure. Immediately, his vision blurred and his head felt dizzy. By the time his spiritual sense solidified, he perceived four towering giants, dozens of feet tall, standing in the distance.
Clad in golden armor, the giants each wielded a distinct weapon: one held a long sword, another cradled a pipa, a third gripped a long mace, and the last clutched a precious umbrella. They glared furiously at the multitude of intruders.
Before these colossal figures, the cultivators appeared as mere insects!
Suddenly, the giant cradling the pipa plucked a string, yet no sound echoed through the air.
However, one of the five Wen family members, a woman clad in white, suddenly exploded with a ‘Peng‘ sound.
Not only that, but as the giant continued to pluck the strings, members of the other two families suffered the same gruesome fate. Barely having stepped into the immortal’s abode, everyone’s robes were already stained with fresh blood.
Qin Yan watched as half a face landed at his feet, his stomach churning uncontrollably.
No one had fully grasped the situation, yet three people had already perished upon their arrival.
Only Yu Qingxuan perceived the truth clearly: as the giant cradling the pipa plucked its strings,
the meridians of the cultivators who had just exploded had all begun to writhe. It would have been truly strange if they hadn’t burst apart!
As everyone watched the four giants slowly advance, their souls nearly fled their bodies. The utterly bizarre nature of the previous attack had momentarily extinguished any thought of combat.
Their only thought was: ‘Escape!’
However, the immortal’s abode’s great gate had already sealed behind them, leaving them no choice but to scatter in all directions.
“Go!”
Wen He wiped a streak of blood from her face, let out a shout, and was the first to flee in a random direction.
The members of the other two families followed suit.
Qin Yan and Yu Qingxuan also hastily followed. As the cultivators scattered, the four giants split up to pursue them. The Wen family members were fortunate; only one giant, wielding a long whip, pursued them.
“Roar—”
The giant, observing the fleeing Wen family members, let out an enraged roar.
Yu Qingxuan, however, moved with an air of unhurried ease, unlike the panicked Wen family members around her. After all, the giant was merely at the Foundation Establishment Realm, likely a puppet refined by the Golden Core cultivator who had resided here.
She was merely curious about what other abilities these giants possessed, and the current situation presented a wealth of experimental subjects.
Qin Yan naturally felt the same. Firstly, his senior sister was present; secondly, his own cultivation far surpassed that of the Wen family members. The giant pursuing them was something even he could handle.
‘Still, who knows what hidden tricks this giant might possess?’
At that moment, the giant raised the long mace in its hand. The seemingly solid mace miraculously segmented, transforming instantly into a long whip. Then, like a colossal python coiling to strike, it lashed out towards the cultivators.
Hearing the whistling sound from behind them, the Wen family members felt their souls nearly flee their bodies once more.
One of them suddenly produced a flying magical artifact and soared into the air. However, the long mace, as if locked onto its target, improbably changed direction and struck directly at her.
Peng—
Again, a mist of blood rained down from the sky.
Another one of the five Wen family members had perished, leaving only three remaining.
“Wen Yun!”
Wen He cried out, her eyes gleaming with a fierce red light. While it was true that immortal abodes and mystic realms harbored countless dangers, and no one could predict what they would encounter, for two members to perish so swiftly, how was she to explain this to the family elders?
This mystic realm presented itself as a miniature world, with lush trees flourishing all around. This dense foliage, however, proved troublesome for the giant.
Yet, Wen He swiftly cast these worries aside. Explanations to elders were secondary; survival was paramount!
Fortunately, everyone fully activated their spiritual energy. The giant, hampered by the terrain, could only let out a frustrated roar as the cultivators vanished into the dense forest.
However, the Wen family members dared not stop, continuing their flight until their spiritual energy was completely depleted.
“Hoo~”
Wen He gasped for breath, looking at the sole remaining Wen family woman beside her. A slight frown creased her brow. “Where is Wen Xuan?”
Wen Xuan was the green-robed woman who had earlier suggested verifying Qin Yan and Yu Qingxuan’s identities. But now, Wen Xuan was nowhere to be seen.
The only explanation was that Wen Xuan had become separated during their frantic escape.
Having just entered the immortal’s abode, they were already in such a wretched state. The green-skirted woman standing beside Wen He felt a surge of frustration, her gaze involuntarily falling upon Yu Qingxuan and Qin Yan.
Her eyes burned with palpable anger.
