Reunion of the Couple

Chapter 48 • 1,591 words • 14 min read

The collision between the two most prominent families of the Royal Capital left the onlookers speechless, and the road grew increasingly congested.

“Why aren’t we moving forward? What’s going on?” Those behind, unaware of the commotion ahead, began to grumble in unison.

Barely five minutes after the road had come to a standstill, several figures swiftly descended from the direction of the Yunhua Sect.

They promptly hovered above the area where the Lin family and the Dai family were engaged in a chaotic brawl.

There were six individuals in total.

“All of you below, cease your actions immediately!” a clear, cold female voice resonated. “During the entrance examination period, no one is permitted to cause trouble within the Yunhua Sect’s territory. Those who disobey will have their examination qualifications revoked and be expelled from our domain.”

It was an ethereal yet stern female voice.

Inside the carriage, Yan Yun paused upon hearing the voice. She quickly opened the window and glanced upwards.

With that single glance, she beheld the person she had longed for.

“My dear wife!”

Yan Yun’s affectionate address, “My dear wife,” startled Xie Yuyan, who was beside her. Xie Yuyan quickly leaned closer, peering up at the sky.

“Jiang Xue? Are you saying that icy beauty up there is Jiang Xue?” Xie Yuyan hastily questioned.

Yan Yun nodded, a cheerful smile playing on her lips.

“Wow! She’s countless times more beautiful than in your previous life! You’re a lucky man,” Xie Yuyan remarked, her face etched with envy.

Wasting no time, Yan Yun immediately retrieved the exclusive communication artifact Jiang Yao had given her before her departure.

This artifact allowed for mutual communication as long as they were within the Yunhua Sect’s territory.

Jiang Yao had given her this item with the hope that if Yan Yun encountered any trouble she couldn’t resolve, she would come to the Yunhua Sect, where Jiang Yao would undoubtedly assist her through any difficulties.

Jiang Yao had already reached the Great Completion of the Cavern Heaven Realm, having simultaneously condensed six Cavern Heaven vortexes. At only thirteen years old, her talent was likely unparalleled throughout the entire Jiang Country.

Jiang Yao’s mood was particularly foul at that moment. Upon emerging from her cultivation, she had received news from her family: Yan Yun’s cultivation of a poison cultivation technique had been exposed, and the Lin family had also uncovered the Yan family’s connection to the Heavenly Poison Maiden from a thousand years ago.

Furthermore, to spare her family from misfortune, Yan Yun had urged them to report her and had also insisted that both the Jiang family and the Yan family sever all ties with her.

She was now gravely concerned for Yan Yun’s safety; had it not been for the letter Yan Yun left behind, Jiang Yao would have set out to find her long ago.

“It’s the Lin family again,” Jiang Yao muttered, her gaze fixed on the Lin family members below, her anger flaring.

Upon seeing the arrival of the Yunhua Sect cultivators, both the Lin family and the Dai family promptly ceased their actions.

Jiang Yao had been about to intervene, but just then, she noticed her communication artifact suddenly vibrating.

She immediately picked it up and glanced at it, and with that look, her previously displeased expression instantly transformed into one of pleasant surprise.

Her gaze swiftly darted to a spot below, and there, through the window of an ordinary carriage, she saw Yan Yun waving at her.

“This is wonderful! You’ve finally come to the Yunhua Sect. I thought you might be on the run indefinitely,” Jiang Yao exclaimed, her worries completely dissipating.

Consequently, she no longer intended to cause any trouble.

“Those below, stop making a fuss and clear the road at once,” Jiang Yao commanded.

As the Sect Master’s personal disciple, Jiang Yao was currently being groomed by the Yunhua Sect as its next leader, which was why she had been tasked with assisting the sect in various matters.

The order for this entrance examination was her responsibility.

The Dai family and the Lin family dared not utter another word, obediently clearing the road. Thus, the congestion gradually eased.

As pedestrians navigated the narrow passage, the Yunhua Sect’s mountain gate came into view on the other side.

In the distance, they could discern a majestic mountain range shrouded almost entirely by clouds and mist—this was Yunxia Mountain, with the Yunhua Sect situated at its peak.

“Wow, it’s so tall! I bet it’s at least ten thousand meters high,” Xie Yuyan mused.

“No matter how high it is,” Yan Yun replied, “I’ve already contacted my wife. We’ll find a secluded spot to meet her later.”

Xie Yuyan nodded in agreement.

It wasn’t until the carriage reached the foot of Yunxia Mountain that the two of them disembarked.

“Thank you, Uncle Coachman,” Yan Yun said, handing the driver some extra money. “Please accept this as a token for your hard work.”

The coachman, of course, beamed with delight.

“Farewell, young ladies! I wish you both good fortune.”

The coachman promptly turned his carriage around and departed.

Yan Yun looked up at a certain spot in the sky, where Jiang Yao was distantly observing her.

‘Strange, who is that woman beside her?’ Jiang Yao murmured to herself.

After disembarking from the carriage, Yan Yun did not immediately ascend the mountain. Instead, she led Xie Yuyan to a secluded grove nearby.

Once they arrived, Jiang Yao, still in the sky, immediately conjured an excuse, telling her fellow disciples behind her, “Everyone, I’ve suddenly remembered something. I’ll be leaving for a moment; please continue to oversee things.”

These disciples, naturally, dared not question her and allowed Jiang Yao to depart.

Jiang Yao certainly did not fly directly to Yan Yun’s location in front of them. Instead, she feigned a return to the Yunhua Sect, then made a wide detour, avoiding everyone’s gaze, before finally arriving at Yan Yun’s position.

Descending from the sky, she embraced Yan Yun tightly before the latter could utter a word.

“You little rascal (TL Note: A strong term of endearment and exasperation, literally ‘bastard’), you scared me half to death! Didn’t I tell you not to do anything dangerous unless absolutely necessary? Why won’t you listen? Do you know how worried Mother and I have been about you all this time?” Jiang Yao complained, hugging Yan Yun tightly while playfully pummeling her back with small fists.

Seeing Jiang Yao, Yan Yun finally felt a complete sense of relief.

“I couldn’t help it,” Yan Yun said, pouting slightly. “The Lin family tried to kill me and seize my treasures; I was forced to retaliate.”

For her and the Yan family, it had been an unprovoked disaster, entirely caused by others seeking trouble.

“I know all about what happened,” Jiang Yao quickly assured her. “I understand you did it to protect both the Yan family and our Jiang family. Don’t worry, the announcement from our family severing ties with you was merely to appease the Immortal Alliance.”

Just as the two were embracing, basking in the happiness of their reunion, an ill-timed cough interrupted them.

“Ahem, ahem, come on! There’s a living person right here! Aren’t you two just force-feeding me dog food (TL Note: Chinese slang for public displays of affection, often used by single people to express annoyance)? How can a lonely single dog (TL Note: Chinese slang for a single person, often self-deprecating) like me endure this?” Xie Yuyan grumbled, thoroughly displeased.

Jiang Yao froze, then finally turned her gaze to Xie Yuyan. The words Xie Yuyan had just spoken were precisely the kind of slang they had used in their previous lives.

“This? Yan Yun, who is she?” Jiang Yao’s curiosity about Xie Yuyan was instantly piqued.

Yan Yun rolled her eyes dramatically at Xie Yuyan.

“Her? That’s Xie Xuan,” Yan Yun introduced Xie Yuyan’s true identity flatly.

Upon hearing the name, Jiang Yao blinked in confusion. Her mind seemed to jam for a few seconds before she pointed at Xie Yuyan, asking with an incredulous expression, “She’s Xie Xuan?”

Yan Yun nodded, a wry smile on her face.

“Though I’d rather not admit it, she really is Old Xie.”

Hearing this, Xie Yuyan became displeased.

“What the hell! What do you mean you don’t want to admit me?” she retorted. “Have I embarrassed you? Honestly, Sister-in-law, it’s been so long! I never expected us to reunite in another world. I’ve missed you both terribly.” Xie Yuyan suddenly moved to embrace Jiang Yao.

However, as soon as she drew near, a large hand pressed against her face, preventing her from approaching Jiang Yao.

“Get lost! Stop acting like a clown,” Yan Yun grumbled.

Once Jiang Yao confirmed Xie Yuyan’s identity, her expression truly became difficult to maintain.

“I… oh, I can’t hold it in anymore! You two are truly a pair of fellow sufferers (TL Note: A humorous twist on the idiom ‘nan xiong nan di’, usually meaning ‘brothers in misfortune’, here highlighting that both are now women), how did you both turn into women? Haha…”

Jiang Yao tried to suppress her laughter, but she still shook with mirth.

What acquaintance could possibly hold back their laughter at this?

“Hey, beautiful Jiang! Show some respect, alright?” Xie Yuyan said, her face drooping with dissatisfaction.

And so, another acquaintance had reunited in this alternate world. One could only wonder what circumstances awaited the others, should they also find themselves here.

How many more had undergone a gender change, just like these two?
