A ripple of restrained giggles, muffled by delicate hands, quickly spread through the classroom.
Aili was utterly stunned.
After repeatedly checking, she couldn’t believe Chen Ran had actually solved the problem. This question, of course, had been deliberately designed to challenge him, being new content they were only just beginning to learn today. How could he possibly know it?!
Could it be…
He claimed he had been studying all night. Could that truly have been the case?
Having taught at this prestigious academy for several years, Aili had encountered her fair share of ‘unconventional academic geniuses,’ but Chen Ran’s particular brand was truly a first for her.
She recalled.
The young man’s entrance examination had yielded perfect scores in all subjects.
This achievement was extraordinary in itself, considering the exam papers had been compiled by teachers from seven distinct disciplines, encompassing subjects such as Chinese language, mathematics, foreign language, geography, biology, physics, and humanities/politics.
Furthermore, some teachers, disinclined to admit male students, had deliberately made the questions exceedingly difficult.
Yet.
Chen Ran had still achieved full marks.
And cheating was absolutely out of the question!!
As one of the invigilators at the time, she knew this with absolute certainty.
During the entrance examination, each candidate was confined to a cubicle measuring just one square meter, taking the test under the simultaneous surveillance of four cameras positioned at different angles.
Even a mere three seconds of their eyes straying from the exam paper would result in disqualification.
Yet despite all these stringent measures, Chen Ran had still been… the first to submit his paper.
Gazing at the handsome, sleepy-looking young man before her, Aili massaged her forehead, then wearily waved her hand.
“Go on, then. Go.”
For such a diligent student,
her tone, as his homeroom teacher, naturally softened considerably. She even thoughtfully reminded the teachers who would follow her not to disturb Chen Ran after her class concluded.
And so,
he slept through the entire morning.
While the teachers indeed refrained from disturbing him during class, a new challenge arose during lunch break. Just as he was about to take out the bento box Jiang Zilin had lovingly prepared for him to eat…
“Classmate Chen Ran, let’s eat together. It seems my family’s chef made far too much lunch today…”
A female classmate, carrying a large lunchbox with both hands, instantly claimed more than half of his desk space.
“Here, have some of mine!”
“Scram! Chen Ran promised to eat with *this lady* yesterday!!”
???
Who was this, just spouting nonsense now? When had he ever agreed to *her*??
And who in the world were *you*!!!
“Look at how impatient you all are. Don’t scare him away, alright? Here, Chen Ran, this is Big Sister’s contact information.”
Another female classmate suddenly leaned in, slipping a small piece of paper into his pocket.
“If you want to earn some pocket money, just contact Big Sister, alright?”
Chen Ran blinked, not expecting the girl to deliberately emphasize her next words.
“Once it’s done, we part ways, no strings attached!”
“You little hussy, don’t try to hook up with *my* boyfriend!!”
“Who said he was your boyfriend? He’s clearly *my* boyfriend!!!”
…
While these young ladies might have seemed like obedient angels when the teachers were present, in reality…
they were quite wild.
Chen Ran, currently surrounded by a throng of female classmates and forced to endure their constant touching and poking, found it utterly unbearable.
Damn it.
The stories in those novels were all lies; being the sole male student in an all-girls school was hardly a blessing?!
This was pure torture!!
No, that wasn’t right. According to the plots of those novels, he should have hypnotized them all.
At this thought,
Chen Ran suddenly remembered that his ‘King’s Game’ app actually offered a [Hypnosis] skill for redemption.
Hmm…
If he hypnotized these troublesome girls, he could finally sleep in peace.
Bliss~
Seizing an opportune moment among the girls surrounding him,
Chen Ran quickly clutched his lunchbox, broke through the classroom, and made a run for it. Pursued by the throng of girls, he escaped to the rooftop of the academic building and decisively shut the door behind him.
A sigh of relief escaped him.
The world had finally grown quiet.
The gentle summer breeze softly rustled past, as large swathes of white clouds drifted across the azure canvas of the sky. In the distance, tall buildings stood side by side, and stylishly designed skyscrapers were visible everywhere, likely belonging to other school campuses.
Chen Ran noticed a red-haired girl also eating lunch on the rooftop.
Their eyes met.
Soon, the girl silently resumed eating, her gaze fixed on the distant horizon.
Chen Ran, too, walked to the other end of the rooftop and sat down to begin his lunch.
Silly Jiang Zilin had used two small octopuses, a fried egg, and a grilled sausage to arrange a peculiar crying face in the bento box, making him feel as though he were still a kindergarten child.
She had even claimed it was practice for making loving bento boxes for ‘their’ future baby.
But when he retorted, “Shouldn’t I get you pregnant first?” he was chased for quite a while by her, crimson-faced and brandishing a kitchen knife.
Chen Ran mused.
Recently, Jiang Zilin’s defenses seemed to be getting lower and lower, or perhaps his own aggressiveness had simply increased?
He silently ate his lunch.
Having stayed up all night and only managed a single morning’s sleep, Chen Ran felt his energy had recovered by seventy to eighty percent, and he was no longer as sleepy.
Perhaps, he mused, it was the boon from his [Spirit] attribute?
He recalled that when he had first redeemed the skill ‘Invisible Man,’ he hadn’t known there was a time limit for its use. His initial Spirit attribute had been a paltry 2 points, ridiculously low.
This had caused him to fall into a deep slumber from past midnight that night, only waking at ten o’clock the following evening.
It had truly startled both Jiang Zilin and Jiang Lengleng. If not for his steady breathing, lack of any discomfort, and the emergency doctor’s confirmation that he was merely sleeping from exhaustion, they truly would have carried him to a hospital bed.
Still, a lingering fatigue persisted.
Perhaps it was due to using the skill last night; he resolved to continue sleeping a bit more in the afternoon.
Chen Ran thought to himself.
He then began to consider his current situation: his Strength and Agility attributes had both reached 15 points. The next logical step was to raise his Stamina, Intelligence, and Spirit to 15 points as well.
After that, he would consider upgrading his existing [Invisible Man] skill.
Or perhaps redeeming a new skill entirely.
Upgrading a skill required 45 reward points, and with the 15 reward points he still needed for basic attributes, that would amount to at least two months of effort.
Redeeming a new skill, however, only cost 30 reward points, meaning a new skill would take a month and a half to acquire.
Chen Ran silently calculated the time in his mind.
He decided both options were largely similar; it would mainly depend on his future needs.
At any rate, after spending half a month to raise all five attributes to 15 points, he would save up his reward points and then decide whether to redeem a new skill or upgrade an existing one.
He meticulously planned his future ‘growth path.’
****
Soon enough,
lunch break ended. As the class bell rang, Chen Ran stood up, putting away his lunchbox, and prepared to return to the classroom to continue sleeping.
The red-haired girl he had seen upon arriving on the rooftop was already gone.
Chen Ran quickly dismissed the matter from his mind, his thoughts consumed by the annoyance of returning to the classroom—no, not just then, but every single day of school from now on—he would have to face the harassment of his classmates, these young ladies.
Being single was a sin.
If only he had a ‘girlfriend’ or something.
Surely, these young ladies from the aristocratic school weren’t all cuckold enthusiasts!
As Chen Ran thought this, he returned to the classroom, instinctively glancing towards the seat in front of his—Duanmu Hui’s seat.
Evidently, however, the national idol had not come to school today.
In fact, her attendance for even one day a week was already considered frequent.
Who else was there besides her?
Among the women he knew at school—for some reason, Jiang Lengleng was the first name that popped into Chen Ran’s mind…
As he sat down in his seat,
Chen Ran was still fretting when he suddenly heard a sharp cry from behind him.
“It’s you?!
“It’s actually you, you scoundrel!!”
