Yang Lu’s sudden shift in topic left everyone utterly bewildered.
Observing her sudden surge of enthusiasm, Yan Yun immediately pulled Jiang Yao closer, sternly asserting her claim.
“For now, we are neither foes nor friends, but I believe we should forgo the idea of friendship, lest we invite gossip. My wife, don’t you agree?” Yan Yun deliberately drew Jiang Yao into her embrace, stating with utmost seriousness.
Those two words, “my wife,” nearly caused Yang Lu and her senior brother’s jaws to drop in astonishment.
“Wife?”
“You two?”
Yang Lu stared, utterly dumbfounded, at the pair before her, her mind surely awash with a stampede of bewildered thoughts.
Her gaze flitted between Yan Yun on her left and Jiang Yao on her right; in her estimation, both were undeniably stunning beauties. Yet, this silver-haired paragon declared her formidable rival to be her wife right before her eyes—a scene so jarring, no one could possibly accept it.
Jiang Yao, of course, saw through Yan Yun’s intentions.
She recalled their first date in her previous life, after she and Yan Yun had officially become a couple in university. Being shy at the time, she had unceremoniously dragged her best friend, Yang Xin, along to play the role of a third wheel.
On that occasion, Yang Xin had quipped, “It seems my woman was snatched away by someone else, and we’ve become acquainted through a fight.”
Although the remark was meant to tease Yan Yun, Yan Yun had immediately embraced Jiang Yao, looking at Yang Xin with a serious expression and declaring that Jiang Yao was hers.
“Stop teasing,” Jiang Yao chided, rolling her eyes at Yan Yun. Then, gently pushing Yan Yun away, she looked at Yang Lu with a smile. “We simply had an intense bout during the event, a true acquaintance by combat.”
Witnessing Jiang Yao’s actions, Yang Lu mistakenly assumed the two were merely close friends, playfully bickering.
“You startled me! So it was just playful banter,” Yang Lu exclaimed, patting her chest. “I knew it; for two such beauties to be married would truly be a waste of heavenly gifts!”
Yan Yun immediately crossed her arms and let out a cold huff, yet she refrained from pressing the matter further.
Jiang Yao offered no further explanation, but Su Muyu and Xie Yuyan exchanged peculiar smiles.
“There’s no harm in getting acquainted,” Jiang Yao suggested. “I’ve been eager to learn more about your Ji Country. How about joining us as our guests?”
Yang Lu nodded eagerly.
“No problem. Senior brother, you can head back first. I’ll take a stroll with Miss Jiang.”
“Ah? This… this isn’t appropriate, is it?” Yang Lu’s senior brother looked troubled.
Yang Lu instantly shot him a glare, prompting the young man to droop his head and reluctantly agree.
“Fine, just be sure to return early.”
With only that parting remark, he turned and flew toward the colossal flying artifact in the sky.
“Alright, let’s go.”
“Alright, let’s go. Feel free to ask anything you wish; I’ll tell you all I can.” Yang Lu stated cheerfully.
Jiang Yao nodded, then led Yang Lu forward, and the two began to converse as they flew.
Yan Yun and the other two followed closely behind.
“Forget it, Yan Yun’er, I’m heading back first. I won’t mingle with you young people; it’s quite awkward,” Su Muyu declared.
“Hey, Mother, you’re not old at all! Standing with us sisters, you look just like—don’t you agree?” Yan Yun immediately flattered her mother.
Xie Yuyan quickly nodded in agreement.
“Exactly, exactly! Auntie, you don’t look old in the slightest.” Yan Yun immediately nudged Xie Yuyan with her arm.
“How could you say that? Call her ‘Elder Sister!'”
Xie Yuyan merely let out a soft “Ah?” in response to Yan Yun.
“Oh, never mind, never mind,” Su Muyu sighed. “Even if you consider yourselves young, she’s still your mother. In their eyes, I’m an elder. Alas, women who’ve had children simply can’t stay young forever!” She lamented, then promptly flew away.
The moment she departed, Yan Yun instantly raised her hand and delivered a resounding slap to Xie Yuyan’s backside.
“Ow! Why did you hit me?” Xie Yuyan cried out, rubbing her backside with a pained, aggrieved expression.
“You’re so slow! Don’t you know how to talk? Where did your skill for charming girls in your past life go?” Yan Yun retorted.
Yang Lu, who had been chatting and laughing animatedly ahead, paused slightly upon hearing Yan Yun’s voice from behind.
She halted her flight, turning with a puzzled expression to look behind her.
“Past life? Skill for charming girls?”
Jiang Yao quickly explained to Yang Lu, “Miss Yang, you misheard. They’re just messing around.”
Yet, Yang Lu replied with conviction, “I didn’t mishear. That’s precisely what they said. Do they also know about their past lives?”
Yang Lu seemed greatly intrigued, or perhaps slightly concerned, by this matter.
“You definitely misheard. Don’t mind them; they’re always so boisterous. Let’s just continue our conversation,” Jiang Yao insisted, once again deflecting the topic.
Noticing Jiang Yao’s consistent deflection, Yang Lu pondered for a moment before refraining from pressing further.
Meanwhile, Jiang Yao immediately sent a divine sense message to Yan Yun, reminding her: [There are outsiders present; don’t speak so casually.]
Upon hearing this, Yan Yun instantly grew puzzled.
‘Strange, why is this woman so concerned about what I just said? Under normal circumstances, shouldn’t they simply take it as a joke?’ Yan Yun thought, a bewildered expression on her face.
She then looked at Xie Yuyan, who also wore a peculiar expression.
Firstly, people in this world would certainly not take their words seriously, likely dismissing them as utter nonsense.
However, from Jiang Yao’s recent reaction, it seemed Yang Lu was quite bothered by their comment.
“Old Xie,” Yan Yun mused, puzzled, “don’t you get the feeling Yang Lu is a bit off?”
“Indeed,” Xie Yuyan speculated. “Could she be an acquaintance?”
The mention of an acquaintance immediately invigorated Yan Yun.
“Come on, come on! We must go and test her,” Yan Yun declared, instantly accelerating to catch up.
Xie Yuyan quickly followed, yet neither of them immediately pressed for answers. Instead, they led Yang Lu to Qianjin Pavilion.
A place for conversation and a stroll was certainly needed, and it just so happened they intended to visit Bai Zhihua.
The four arrived at the entrance of Qianjin Pavilion.
“Oh! Your Ji Country also has a Qianjin Pavilion? This Qianjin Pavilion truly conducts extensive business!” Yang Lu exclaimed upon seeing it.
This indicated that Qianjin Pavilion also existed in her region.
“Indeed, I hear their business spans the entire Tianchen Continent. Come, let’s go inside and take a look,” Jiang Yao suggested.
With that, the two led the way inside.
Curiously, Jiang Yao didn’t even wait for Yan Yun’s prompting; she proactively guided Yang Lu towards Bai Zhihua. Bai Zhihua, as usual, was lounging idly on a table, two plaques placed beside her.
“Eh?” Yang Lu’s eyes visibly brightened when she spotted the plaque beside Bai Zhihua, inscribed with the words: “Fated souls meet across a thousand miles; unfated ones pass by, unrecognized.”
“Oh, Second Sister, Third Sister, Sister-in-law, you’re here! Your performance today was truly outstanding; I went to watch!” Bai Zhihua exclaimed, leaping up excitedly as she saw them approach.
Yang Lu observed the beautiful young loli’s forms of address for Jiang Yao and the others, her expression growing even more peculiar.
“Did you watch? Don’t you think I was dashing?” Xie Yuyan walked up to Bai Zhihua, scooped her into her arms, and settled into a chair.
“Damn it, let me go! I’m not a child, so stop treating me like one, alright?” Bai Zhihua struggled a few times.
Xie Yuyan’s playful mood surged.
“Hehehe, I won’t! What are you going to do about it, little one?” Xie Yuyan chuckled incessantly.
Witnessing Xie Yuyan and Bai Zhihua’s playful antics, Yang Lu immediately looked at Jiang Yao with curiosity.
“Are you all friends?”
Jiang Yao smiled and nodded.
“Yes, we’re all friends. Those three are like sisters, though not by blood.”
Yang Lu nodded. After a moment of hesitation, she addressed Bai Zhihua.
“Excuse me, little girl, who wrote the poem on this plaque?” Yang Lu inquired.
The moment Yang Lu posed this question, the gazes of Bai Zhihua and the others, including Jiang Yao, instantly fixed upon her.
Suddenly scrutinized by four pairs of eyes, Yang Lu naturally felt a surge of discomfort.
“Why are you all staring at me like that? I merely found the poem quite well-written, nothing more,” Yang Lu hastily explained.
However, her panicked eyes had already betrayed her.
“Is that so? We thought you were acting strangely earlier,” Yan Yun and the others stated, suddenly encircling Yang Lu.
“You… what are you doing?” Yang Lu gasped, startled.
Jiang Yao’s gaze sharpened, a faint, inexplicable smile gracing her lips as she fixed her eyes on Yang Lu. “Stop being so evasive. The moment I encountered you at today’s event, I sensed a familiar aura about you.”
“Indeed,” Xie Yuyan added, stroking her chin with keen interest. “Aren’t you the one from the wedding?”
Faced with their inquisitive gazes, Yang Lu’s feigned look of ignorance slowly dissolved into a serious expression.
“You… are you all also people from another world?” Yang Lu asked tentatively.
Jiang Yao and the others immediately nodded gravely.
At their affirmation, Yang Lu’s gaze instantly locked onto Jiang Yao. Her wide eyes blinked at Jiang Yao.
Seeing Yang Lu’s gesture, Jiang Yao promptly responded in kind.
“Holy moly, my big wife?!” Yang Lu exclaimed, pointing at Jiang Yao.
“You crazy person?!” Jiang Yao shouted back, pointing at Yang Lu.
The two immediately seemed to connect, then embraced each other tightly, bouncing and leaping together like excited children.
“This is incredible! I knew it! I wondered why you had such a captivating aura about you. I can’t believe it’s really you, Jiang Xue!” Yang Lu exclaimed excitedly.
“Me too! Your crazy self-introduction when we first met hasn’t changed a bit,” Jiang Yao said, equally delighted.
This was Jiang Yao’s most excited moment since reuniting with Yan Yun, for her beloved sister and best friend had finally appeared.
“You… you’re Yang Xin?” Yan Yun blurted out instantly.
Hearing this, Yang Lu immediately turned to Yan Yun and the others.
“It’s me! And who are you, daring to claim her as your wife right in front of me? Let me tell you, she belongs to me!” Yang Xin declared, releasing Jiang Yao, then sidled up to Yan Yun and, hooking an arm around Jiang Yao, began to assert her ownership.
Yan Yun’s face darkened.
“Nonsense! Stop being delusional. Whether in her past life or this one, she is my rightful wife, my spouse! Don’t you agree?” Yan Yun retorted, quickly pulling Jiang Yao over.
Yang Lu quickly grabbed one of Jiang Yao’s hands.
“Who are you? How dare you try to snatch her from me? You’ve got guts!”
Jiang Yao instantly found herself being pulled back and forth, becoming a coveted prize for the two of them.
