The Film Emperor’s Unexpected Rescue

Chapter 22,639 words22 min read

It was past two in the morning, yet the corridor buzzed with a throng of energetic junior nurses, all eager for a photo and autograph with the Film Emperor.

This was a high-end private hospital, accustomed to treating patients of considerable wealth and status.

While the medical staff, familiar with all manner of prominent figures, were certainly excited to see Jiang Yan, they conscientiously maintained a semblance of order.

Cai Xinyu, however, garnered little of their attention.

What truly astonished everyone present was Jiang Yan’s direct action of pulling Lin Yu away from Cai Xinyu.

‘Why would the Film Emperor pull away someone else’s boyfriend?’

The junior nurses huddled together, utterly bewildered.

Jiang Yan’s expression was marked by displeasure, his tone laden with a challenging undertone as he addressed the junior nurses in the corridor.

Primarily, however, his interrogation was directed at Cai Xinyu, that ill-tempered man utterly devoid of compassion.

“His hand has been bleeding incessantly,” Jiang Yan declared, pointing to Lin Yu’s swollen hand, from which droplets of blood steadily fell, his presence radiating an oppressive aura.

Turning to the junior nurse who had just examined Lin Yu, he continued, “I’m not entirely familiar with hospital procedures, but I fail to comprehend why this doctor would abruptly remove his IV, forcing a frail patient, whose steps are unsteady, to be discharged.”

‘Was it simply because he couldn’t bear to hear his colleagues’ honest opinions of his actions, labeling them as abuse towards his boyfriend?’

‘To make someone in such a poor state leave the hospital immediately?’

‘It was utterly outrageous.’

‘If he wished to avoid gossip, then he ought not to engage in such despicable behavior.’

Having spoken, Jiang Yan fixed his gaze upon Cai Xinyu, scrutinizing him intently.

Not only was his conduct unacceptable for a boyfriend, but even within a normal doctor-patient relationship, his actions warranted a formal complaint.

“I intend to file a complaint against you,” he stated, his voice sharp and stern.

Cai Xinyu found himself momentarily speechless, unable to retort under Jiang Yan’s oppressive gaze, unsure if the Film Emperor’s formidable presence was an act or an inherent trait.

‘Hadn’t everyone always said the Film Emperor was easygoing, approachable, and good-tempered?’

Yet now, with one hand supporting Lin Yu and his face etched with severity, he looked anything but benevolent.

Glancing at the junior nurses, whose gazes were distinctly peculiar, Cai Xinyu felt his composure falter.

He cleared his throat and forced an explanation: “I am a doctor myself, and his boyfriend.

I am perfectly aware of his physical condition.

He doesn’t require hospitalization; I can care for him properly at home…”

“Care for him with what?” Jiang Yan interjected, his aura growing even more intimidating.

‘By kicking his bed?’

‘By violently slapping his face with a phone?’

He couldn’t quite fathom why he felt such profound anger over the plight of a boy he didn’t even know.

Yet, he felt as if he were possessed today, compelled to meddle in this affair.

If Cai Xinyu couldn’t restrain himself from hitting the boy in public, then domestic abuse at home was an almost certainty.

As a public figure, he might not be able to dictate others’ private lives, but he could certainly use his platform to expose and condemn such egregious acts of domestic violence.

He was firmly convinced the boy was a victim of Cai Xinyu’s abuse; just moments ago, when he had pulled Lin Yu closer, the boy’s old white sweater had shifted, revealing a shocking expanse of livid bruising across his pale collarbone—the clearest evidence imaginable.

“I believe this boy’s health warrants a full body examination.”

This was precisely what the doctor who had administered first aid to Lin Yu had recommended: for him to rest first, then undergo a comprehensive physical examination upon waking.

The moment Jiang Yan finished speaking, a distinct panic flickered across Cai Xinyu’s face.

“No, there’s no need.

He doesn’t require a check-up; he’s perfectly fine,” Cai Xinyu quickly interjected, waving at Lin Yu.

“Xiaoyu, come here, let’s go home.”

Lin Yu, who had remained silent until now, slowly lifted his head, his gaze fixed for a long moment on Jiang Yan, who, under the corridor lights, seemed like a deity descended from the heavens—his untouchable idol.

‘He…’

‘He was actually supporting him, standing right beside him, a tangible presence.’

‘Jiang Yan was actually helping him.’

‘A high-born scion of a powerful family, a celebrated Film Emperor adored by millions, was actually helping him with such righteous indignation.’

‘He found it almost unbelievable.’

A tumultuous tide churned within Lin Yu’s heart, yet his face remained utterly devoid of expression.

He seemed to have lost the ability to express emotions, though he couldn’t pinpoint when.

‘Was this truly not a dream?’

‘Was it not merely a hallucination after his demise?’

Lin Yu watched his deity, standing bathed in light, shielding him.

Even if it was just a dream, however fleeting, he felt immensely content.

What was happening around him, or who was present, held no importance for him.

Cai Xinyu’s demands, he simply wished to ignore.

Lin Yu slowly turned his head, reluctant to tear his gaze away from Jiang Yan’s face.

‘What if, the moment he turned away, all this beauty vanished?’

However, Cai Xinyu’s voice filled him with such revulsion that Lin Yu no longer wished to hear it.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Cai Xinyu approaching to pull him, and the revulsion within him intensified.

Lin Yu’s unsteady feet shuffled, and he retreated behind Jiang Yan, his voice weak, a soft plea escaping his lips: “I won’t go with him, please.”

Hearing his docile, cat-like voice, a surge of inexplicable tenderness filled Jiang Yan’s heart.

Without hesitation, he pushed away Cai Xinyu’s outstretched hand.

“You, what right do you have to interfere between me and my boyfriend?” Cai Xinyu demanded loudly, feeling utterly humiliated.

As an associate director, everyone in the hospital, from the lowest staff to patient families, treated him with deference and respect.

With so many junior nurses watching, he couldn’t bear the loss of face.

“I am not interfering in your relationship with your boyfriend,” Jiang Yan calmly stated.

“As an observer, I simply cannot tolerate a doctor refusing to treat a patient.

On this matter, I expect to hear your explanation.”

Jiang Yan’s posture was commanding, as he laid out the facts.

Furthermore, he instructed the surrounding junior nurses and curious patient families, “Feel free to record this video and upload it to public platforms.”

He wanted the public to judge whether a doctor forcibly removing a patient’s IV and preventing their hospitalization was appropriate conduct.

The hospital’s exclusive VIP wards typically housed individuals of significant standing, and hospital regulations strictly prohibited unauthorized video recording and dissemination.

Moreover, the patient families here were not the type to casually film and share things online.

However, Jiang Yan had spoken, and a few well-dressed individuals, having roughly understood the situation, indeed pulled out their phones and began filming Lin Yu’s swollen hand.

The junior nurses, however, dared not film; after all, their future careers at the hospital depended on not offending Associate Director Cai.

Cai Xinyu’s panic intensified.

He immediately apologized to everyone: “I apologize for disturbing you all at this late hour.

This is a private family matter.

Xiaoyu truly doesn’t need to be hospitalized; I’ll just take him home.

Please, no filming, no filming!”

Just then, someone spoke up, addressing Jiang Yan directly: “Are you so idle with no films to shoot?

Why meddle in a couple’s affairs?

All this commotion in the middle of the night, are you going to let the patients sleep?”

Another person retorted, “The soundproofing in this ward is excellent.

You could simply close the door, and it wouldn’t be an issue.”

“Closing the door is too stuffy,” the man shot back.

“I’m paying for this, so you don’t need to tell me whether to close the door or not.”

“Mmm, yes, yes,” the other person conceded, disinclined to argue further, and said to Jiang Yan, “He certainly looks very tired.”

He glanced at Lin Yu.

Jiang Yan turned to look at the person who was swaying precariously, on the verge of collapsing.

After a brief moment of thought, he directly pulled Lin Yu into his embrace, politely adding, “My apologies for the intrusion.”

‘He seemed to have taken a strong liking to this sickly, docile, and quiet young boy.’

‘He felt an inexplicable urge to protect him.’

The utterly exhausted Lin Yu leaned against the firm chest, the faint scent of cologne in his nostrils seemingly clearing his mind for a moment.

‘With such a vivid sensation, he couldn’t possibly be dreaming.’

Yet he was so weary; even leaning on Jiang Yan, he couldn’t maintain his footing.

His legs grew increasingly weak, and unwilling to exert any strength, he slowly slid down from Jiang Yan’s chest.

“Hey!”

Jiang Yan reacted swiftly, and the man beside him also extended a helping hand, catching Lin Yu securely.

Cai Xinyu, however, subtly rolled his eyes, thinking, ‘Lin Yu, you’re quite something; you could be a Film Emperor yourself, such a brilliant act.’

‘Feigning unconsciousness to garner sympathy and pity, deliberately creating a negative impression of me.’

‘Truly malicious.’

He wished he could drag Lin Yu home right now, throw him onto the bed, and give him a good beating.

Jiang Yan helped Lin Yu sit on a corridor chair, and several junior nurses immediately rushed over to check on him.

A doctor, having heard the commotion, performed an urgent examination, then sharply criticized, “Who allowed the patient out?

His condition is too poor; he needs bed rest and an IV drip.

And?

Who removed the IV?

His hand is this swollen?

What happened?”

The doctor’s face was stern as he surveyed everyone.

“He pulled it out,” Jiang Yan stated, casting a glance at Cai Xinyu, who showed no trace of concern.

“Associate Director Cai, you?” the doctor questioned, his face full of disbelief.

“How could you treat Lin Yu like this?

Normally, you—”

He cut himself off mid-sentence, glancing at the surrounding people, and swallowed the rest of his words.

‘Ordinarily, in the office, Cai Xinyu would boast about how his young boyfriend, Lin Yu, was tamed like a dog, utterly obedient.’

‘His smug demeanor made the doctor want to punch him.’

‘But such words couldn’t be uttered publicly; they were colleagues, after all, and he ought to save Cai Xinyu some face.’

The doctor’s name tag indicated a position similar to Cai Xinyu’s, though they belonged to different departments.

Cai Xinyu’s attitude towards those of equal rank, however, was markedly different.

With a face full of forced smiles, he chuckled nervously: “It’s nothing, really.

I’m a doctor myself; I know his condition.

I just accidentally injured him earlier…”

“There’s no surveillance in the VIP ward, so you can just spout nonsense, can’t you?” Jiang Yan retorted, showing him no deference.

“Who’s spouting nonsense!

You were hiding in the restroom, eavesdropping on our conversation—that’s a…” Cai Xinyu, seeing Jiang Yan constantly undermine him, finally lost his temper and directly threatened him.

“Then we’ll call the police,” Jiang Yan stated, utterly unafraid.

He admitted he had deliberately hidden, and was willing to issue an apology on a public platform.

However, the matter of a doctor refusing a patient hospitalization tonight was something he absolutely had to address.

‘His hiding was precisely to observe what violent actions Associate Director Cai might take against the patient.’

As he spoke, he raised his phone: “If the cameras are broken, or if footage can be secretly deleted, then I have my own evidence.”

Cai Xinyu’s heart seized with alarm, and he quickly softened his stance.

“Call, call what police?” he stammered, terrified.

He hadn’t expected Jiang Yan to play dirty, even filming him.

If his treatment of Lin Yu were exposed, his career would be utterly ruined.

“I’ll immediately take Xiaoyu back to his ward,” he offered a clumsy excuse.

“I was just thinking, he’s staying in such an expensive ward, and I’m not the one paying.

My salary isn’t high, so I wanted to move him to a regular ward…”

“Your hospital operates on a membership system, and I have already paid the membership fees,” Jiang Yan declared, directly exposing his lie.

Cai Xinyu’s face became impossibly grim.

“Our Jiang family owns its own hospitals,” Jiang Yan continued, “but your facility was the closest to where he collapsed, and I was concerned about delaying treatment, which is why I brought him here.

Upholding the duty of medical staff to save lives and heal the wounded, I intend to admit him to our Jiang Corporation Hospital.

The membership fees here need not be refunded.”

The great Film Emperor Jiang was not short on money, and now, because of this unethical doctor, Cai Xinyu, he felt an aversion to the entire hospital.

Having finished, he bowed to the patient families in the corridor in apology.

Supporting Lin Yu, he then addressed Cai Xinyu: “Please provide substantial evidence proving you are his family member or lover before you may visit him at the Jiang Corporation Hospital.”

The implication was clear: he’d better not come.

From Lin Yu’s pleading voice, Jiang Yan could discern that the boy wished never to see this man again.

“You!” Cai Xinyu finally burst, unable to contain his rage.

“Jiang Yan! Don’t you dare rely on your fame and the Jiang Corporation’s wealth to bully people!”

“And what if I do bully people?” Jiang Yan admitted readily.

“I! I’ll expose you!” Cai Xinyu declared, pulling out his phone and beginning to record Jiang Yan.

“Very well,” Jiang Yan nodded, meeting the phone’s camera with a calm, contemptuous smile.

“My public relations team is always ready to engage with you.”

Cai Xinyu gasped, “You!”

He was trembling with fury.

Amidst the adoring gazes of several junior nurses, Jiang Yan supported the frail Lin Yu as they departed.

Lin Yu, with his head bowed and eyes glistening with unshed tears, softly asked, “Why are you helping me?”

He had never before experienced such an intervention from a stranger; this kind of aid, this rescue, left him utterly overwhelmed.

Jiang Yan pondered for a moment; he, too, was unsure what had come over him tonight, feeling as if he were possessed.

“Because,” he began, “it’s a good deed for the day?”

‘Someone contemplating suicide must surely be filled with utter despair for this world.’

‘Yet, even within that profound despair, they must also yearn desperately for a glimmer of hope, something to lead them to rebirth.’

‘Surely, everyone who wishes to die also wishes to encounter someone who will pull them back.’

‘In an endless abyss, perhaps even a single firefly could ignite the belief to hold on and live a little longer.’

Whenever Jiang Yan looked into the boy’s eyes, he invariably felt this.

‘It was true that he wanted to die, but he also longed for a miracle.’

‘Jiang Yan possessed every means to be that miracle; why should he not save a young life?’

Lin Yu, his eyes reddened, looked up at Jiang Yan.

His eyes, still as autumn waters, showed no ripples or waves, yet they held a brewing storm of emotion.

However, these emotions remained perpetually veiled, his turmoil confined solely to his heart.

Even his tears were forced back.

“Thank you,” Lin Yu murmured, lowering his gaze once more.

He clenched his fists tightly, composing himself, and then docilely and quietly followed Jiang Yan away from the hospital that had made him feel so profoundly uncomfortable.
