Chapter 5: A Helpless Encounter

Everyone must die, but not in such a manner. I thought of you as a brother, but you wanted to be my master.

This was likely the final thought that flashed through Bai Xia’s mind as she lost consciousness. If there was a pill for regret, Bai Xia would have gone back to the moment she started her job and slapped herself for being greedy.

A drop of blood from Mo Bai’s finger trickled into the girl’s mouth, the coppery taste spreading slowly. It was enough to push Bai Xia over the edge, a strange tingling sensation racing up her spine, causing her petite body to arch. Mo Bai had to kneel down and hold her to prevent her from falling.

“Ah~ whimper~!”

The white-haired girl let out a sweet, muffled cry, her entire body trembling violently in Mo Bai’s arms. It was as if something had crossed a threshold, her ruby-red eyes losing focus, all senses heightened. This included the warmth of Mo Bai’s embrace.

The blood from Mo Bai’s finger flowed into Bai Xia’s mouth, making her emit an incredibly embarrassing sound. Her small body convulsed, and the next moment, she fainted in Mo Bai’s arms, leaving him frozen in place, his arms still wrapped around her.

What… what’s going on?

He looked down at the white-haired girl sleeping in his arms, a rare look of confusion crossing his usually composed face. It took a while for the night breeze to rustle the girl’s snow-white hair, the soft strands brushing against his wrist, bringing him back to his senses.

Looking at the girl fainted in his arms, Mo Bai was both puzzled and worried. He couldn’t figure out what their relationship was or whether he should leave her or take her home. Leaving her felt dangerous for some reason…

Mo Bai carefully moved the hair stuck to the girl’s cheek, her pale skin still flushed but her breathing more stable. Remembering how she had stumbled toward him for help, her pure white dress stained with dirt and blood, and the scratches on her knees, Mo Bai sighed in resignation.

He just couldn’t leave a helpless girl lying in the street.

“Explain everything when you wake up…”

Mo Bai carefully picked up the unconscious girl, cradling her against his chest in a classic princess carry. Her snow-white hair fell over his arm, dancing in the night breeze. Regardless of how they knew each other, since she called him ‘Mo Ge,’ their relationship was likely close. He decided to take her home and wait for her to wake up to get answers.

Mo Bai found a nearby bench and sat down, dialing his driver. As the phone connected, he glanced at the girl in his arms.

Sigh… I guess this is doing a good deed.

“Uncle Chen, come pick me up. I’ll send you the location.” He paused, then added, “Bring an extra jacket.”

The late-night wind was chilly, and Mo Bai worried the girl’s thin dress wouldn’t keep her warm. After hanging up, he gently moved the damp hair from Bai Xia’s forehead, studying her face under the streetlight.

Bai Xia’s skin had a soft, almost luminescent quality, her nose was small and pert, and her lips, still damp from the blood, were a tempting pink. Her slightly parted lips revealed the tips of her tiny canines, and her long, white hair tumbled over Mo Bai’s arm, looking like a waterfall of snow. It was obvious the girl was incredibly beautiful.

He wondered if her white hair was natural. In reality, white hair was rare, and this pure, snow-like color was even more so, unless it was dyed. Mo Bai couldn’t help but run a strand through his fingers, surprised by its softness, like the finest silk, shimmering under the light. It couldn’t be dyed; dyed hair never looked this good.

Before he knew it, he leaned in and inhaled deeply. The white hair had a faint, sweet jasmine scent, but it was mixed with a harsh smell of smoke and alcohol, making him frown. This only confirmed his earlier suspicion.

It seemed she had been drugged and escaped from some chaotic place…

Of course, this was just a guess, but if true, why would something like this happen? Especially in the capital, where such things were uncommon, and the girl didn’t seem old enough. Who would dare do this?

Mo Bai’s gaze fell on the girl’s flushed cheeks, his brows furrowing. Thinking about what the girl might have gone through before escaping, his usually calm eyes deepened with concern, especially when he saw the scratches on her snow-white skin. His expression hardened.

He might seem indifferent, but he wasn’t heartless. And this was the capital, after all…

Maybe he should tell his father about this.

Mo Bai wasn’t sure why he was so concerned about the girl in his arms. Maybe it was because she called him ‘Mo Ge’ in her moment of need, or maybe it was her situation. But he felt a strange connection, like they already knew each other.

“Let’s find a place to sit.”

Standing and holding the girl wasn’t an option, and staying in the middle of the street felt odd. Mo Bai looked around and found a bench, carefully sitting down with the girl in his arms. In the middle of the night, a boy and a girl sat on a bench, waiting for the driver to arrive. The girl’s snow-white hair danced in the wind, a few strands playfully sticking to Mo Bai’s shirt buttons.

Mo Bai gently moved the hair from his shirt, his fingers brushing against the girl’s hot cheek. Despite the cool night breeze, the girl’s temperature was unusually high. He looked down at the small figure curled in his arms, her outfit modest and cute. Her white dress, though stained, was clearly high-quality. Her thin legs were covered in white lace socks and black patent-leather shoes.

For some reason, Mo Bai felt his heart race. Was it just his imagination? If it wasn’t, why was the girl in that kind of place?
