Departure

Chapter 16 • 1,261 words • 11 min read

After taking off the nightgown and changing into the long dress, Su Mian put on her shoes and socks, then donned the baseball cap and mask. She took the remaining pairs of socks and the high heels and stuffed them all into a nearby cabinet.

Standing before the mirror to confirm there were no issues with her appearance, the girl picked up her phone and hurriedly prepared to leave.

Just a set of women’s clothes… did she really think she could scare me with this?

Su Mian felt that her other self had truly underestimated her.

Though, admittedly, the high heels were impossible to wear…

That sort of thing wasn’t meant for ordinary mortals to master!

She had tried them on just a moment ago and nearly sprained her ankle. As for why she tried? Pure curiosity, of course.

Human beings are naturally interested in the unknown. With the items right there and no one around, it was perfectly normal to let curiosity drive a little experimentation.

But if it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit. The flat white sneakers were much more comfortable.

Regardless, Su Mian wasn’t scared off by a few pieces of women’s clothing—mainly because there was nothing else to wear. It wasn’t like she could walk home naked.

Furthermore, while the “other her” clearly intended to make a joke at her expense, she hadn’t been totally cruel. For instance, she had provided two pairs of shoes and several types of socks.

Plain flat shoes and short socks were perfectly acceptable.

Thus, Su Mian wasn’t too bothered. After dressing, she gave the skirt a little swish, comparing the sensation to wearing pants.

The difference was significant, but now wasn’t the time for research.

Once dressed and the remaining items hidden—and after tidying the room slightly to erase signs of her presence—the fully “armored” girl headed straight for the elevator.

In this hotel, the private elevator required a special card to go up, but not to go down.

So, even though the true owner of the suite had long since departed, Su Mian didn’t have to resort to taking the stairs.

She entered the elevator and paid special attention to the potential locations of security cameras, keeping her back to them as much as possible and pulling the brim of her hat low.

She worried that being caught on camera might attract the attention of certain specialized personnel. But on second thought, she currently had the appearance of a fashionable young woman; even if she were discovered, what did it matter?

You’re looking for Zhou Shuren; what does that have to do with me, Lu Xun? (A Chinese cultural reference to using an alias to avoid trouble).

With that thought, Su Mian gradually relaxed.

However, that relaxation lasted only until she reached the lobby.

The elevator came to a halt, and the doors slid open. The moment she stepped into the lobby, she immediately sensed something was wrong.

It was too quiet!

Granted, 3:00 PM wasn’t peak hour, and a high-end hotel lobby rarely had many people—most guests were either in their rooms or out, and check-ins were usually handled quickly. That lack of a noisy crowd was exactly why Su Mian had targeted this place earlier.

But no matter how you looked at it…

There shouldn’t be zero sound at all!

“What’s going on?”

In the magnificent, high-end lobby, not a single sound could be heard. Su Mian scanned the room but couldn’t see anyone. Even the reception desk appeared empty at a glance.

But after a few steps, a figure appeared before her eyes. The reason she hadn’t seen him initially was that he was lying face-down on the floor!

Because he was face-down, she couldn’t see his face, but judging by his back, he was likely a middle-aged man. His hair was black, though there were hints of white at the temples.

He lay there silently, as still as a corpse.

The girl hesitated for a moment before slowly approaching. Upon getting closer, she breathed a sigh of relief. From her special perspective, she could see the “aura of desire” still within him, which meant he was still alive.

However, this aura was incredibly suppressed and faint; she hadn’t even noticed it until she was right next to him.

But why is he unconscious? And why is his aura so weak?

As she thought, Su Mian suddenly froze as the realization hit her. “Wait… it couldn’t be because of me, right? Damn it, why did you just leave him in the lobby!”

She reached out to test him. Sure enough, the uncle’s aura of desire was incredibly low—this was definitely not normal.

Combined with the mysterious disappearance of her hunger when she woke up, Su Mian realized what had happened.

She stood up and looked around. A hotel lobby like this definitely had extensive surveillance; this scene had likely been recorded.

What should she do? Should she find a way to delete the footage?

“No, doing that now would just be trying to cover it up, making it more suspicious. Besides, that girl wouldn’t leave such a huge mess for me. If she left him directly in the lobby, it means it’s probably fine.”

Su Mian still had a fair amount of trust in her other self. The succubus had a history of leaving no traces behind. In that case, doing more would only lead to more mistakes. Doing nothing was the better option!

Leaving immediately was likely the best choice.

Except…

Looking at the weak-breathing middle-aged man, the girl hesitated. Eventually, she walked toward the reception desk.

Even though his desires hadn’t been completely drained and he wouldn’t die if left here, there were still risks if no one found him for a long time.

Though it was the “other her” who caused this sin, the other her was still “her.” Ultimately, it was Su Mian who had released the power that led to this.

This uncle looked like an ordinary person. He was unlucky enough to cross paths with her; if something happened to him or if he died because she ignored him, Su Mian’s conscience wouldn’t be able to handle it.

She had always said she was a “good kid” growing up, and that wasn’t a lie. The tragedy of life lies in the fact that many things are completely out of your control.

Like right now.

The one who caused this was her, and the one feeling guilty was also her. This wasn’t a contradiction. If she had a choice, she wouldn’t want to be like this, but she had no choice.

“Sigh.”

With a sigh and a complicated heart, Su Mian decided to use the hotel phone to notify the hospital.

However, as she circled behind the reception desk, she discovered that the middle-aged man wasn’t the only one unconscious. Behind the counter, a young man in a security uniform and a woman in a professional suit were both lying face-down on the floor.

“Wait… exactly how many portions did you eat? Did the whole hotel suffer!?”

Su Mian felt her scalp go numb. She didn’t want to stay here for another second. She had no time to worry about the two people on the floor and hurried to the phone.

She used her sleeve to cover the handset to avoid fingerprints and dialed the hospital from memory.

Ten minutes later.

The wailing of an ambulance stopped at the hotel entrance.

Simultaneously, not far away, the girl withdrew her gaze and turned, disappearing around a corner.
