Early this morning, Jiang Xun and his team had used the [Kinship Finder] borrowed from Jade Capital University and unexpectedly discovered that the [Eye Hunter] was right near the campus. However, they soon noticed something strange.
The [Kinship Finder] was reacting to other directions as well!
This anomaly made them immediately realize the problem. Excluding the possibility that the Relic was broken, there was only one answer. Obviously, if they could think of using blood to track the [Eye Hunter], how could that sinister and cunning criminal not realize his left-behind blood would become a liability?
He had likely tampered with things to create decoys, causing the [Kinship Finder] to react to multiple locations simultaneously.
However, this wasn’t an unsolvable problem. The Relic’s detection was powerful; they just needed to get close enough to judge whether the target was truly the [Eye Hunter] based on the intensity of the reaction. Thus, they spent the day filtering through targets, narrowing the scope until they eventually isolated a single block.
To avoid alerting the target and letting him escape, Jiang Xun and his team decided to split up.
Old He had been searching another area, but not long ago, word came from Jiang Xun that the [Eye Hunter] had been found. Old He immediately prepared to regroup, only to be told halfway there that the “Eye Hunter” was actually a Familiar in disguise!
A Familiar is a demon bound by a contract with a human. These demons are generally weaker, as powerful demons are almost impossible to contract. While rare exceptions exist, the cost of binding a high-level demon is far more than most can pay.
Upon hearing that Jiang Xun had dealt with a fake, Old He stopped. If the Familiar was nearby, the real [Eye Hunter] couldn’t be far. He quickly shifted targets and began searching the surrounding area.
Whether by good or bad luck, he actually ran into the target!
Because he was quite far away when he noticed the disturbance, Old He didn’t know the full details. From his perspective, he only saw a silver-white back and the man she was slowly walking toward.
Although Old He had never seen the [Eye Hunter], he was no ordinary person. Unless masked by something special, users of supernatural powers are easily exposed if they get close enough to one another. At this moment, the [Eye Hunter] wasn’t hiding his power at all. One look was all it took for Old He to confirm something was wrong; even if he wasn’t sure it was the [Eye Hunter], the man was definitely not a civilian.
Considering the [Eye Hunter’s] specialty in charm and hypnosis, he wondered if the silver figure had already been enthralled. Though Old He sensed that a person with long silver hair probably wasn’t ordinary either, he had no time to deliberate. He pulled his gun and pulled the trigger on the suspected [Eye Hunter].
The result was far beyond his expectations.
The bullet grazed past the silver-haired girl—its target was the man behind her—but she suddenly reached out and caught it!
The deformed bullet was dropped, clinking against the ground. The girl naturally noticed Old He’s presence and turned lightly to look at him.
A second later, across a distance that was definitely not short, the bald man in sunglasses fell into total silence.
“Old He, don’t act rashly!”
In the alleyway, after dealing with the Familiar, Jiang Xun first notified others to handle the corpse, then placed the black, spider-like creature into a special glass container. Just as he finished, he received Old He’s message through his earpiece.
Knowing his teammate’s impulsive personality, the young man immediately issued a warning.
“What’s the specific situation? Forget it, An Ye and I are coming to you. Stay put and keep observing. Old He? Answer me, He Chengye!?”
The voice on the other end cut off abruptly after the first sentence. Jiang Xun frowned and checked the indicator on his earpiece; the light showed the signal was still connected.
Then why isn’t he speaking?
“Old He? Can you hear me? Say something if you’re there!”
Jiang Xun called out several more times, but there was still no reply. With a deep scowl, he immediately patched into another signal: “Regroup on me.”
Without waiting for a response, he pulled out a display device—similar to a smartphone but thinner. Once activated, a detailed map appeared with three distinct red dots. The dot furthest from him was stationary, while the other was rapidly approaching his position.
Moments later, the glasses-wearing youth who looked like a high schooler arrived. “Captain, Old He…”
“I know. Let’s go, we need to check it out.”
Jiang Xun didn’t waste words, leading An Ye toward Old He’s coordinates at high speed. The map showed the distance wasn’t great, though the location was somewhat remote. Running at full speed, it didn’t take long for them to spot Old He’s silhouette.
The man was standing still. From the back, he didn’t appear injured—at least he wasn’t lying in a pool of blood. Being able to stand suggested the situation wasn’t critical. Jiang Xun breathed a small sigh of relief, but kept his guard at maximum.
The fact that Old He appeared unhurt yet failed to respond was clearly abnormal.
“Old He!” An Ye called out, but the man didn’t budge. As they drew closer, they finally realized there was another figure in front of Old He!
Because the bald man was broad-shouldered, Jiang Xun and An Ye—approaching from directly behind—hadn’t noticed her at first. But the moment they saw her, they couldn’t look away.
The two of them stopped in their tracks. Their minds went blank; for a moment, they couldn’t even remember why they were there.
However, compared to the dazed An Ye, Jiang Xun only froze for two or three seconds before his body jerked. In the next instant, a fiery red aura exploded from him!
BOOM!
A wave of red air swept across the area. A nearby dumpster was flipped over, and the already dim streetlights nearby suddenly shattered, plunging the surroundings into total darkness.
But a second later, a fiery glow tore through the night again.
In the middle of a September night, the temperature within a hundred-meter radius of Jiang Xun began to skyrocket. Within seconds, it became so hot it was hard to keep one’s eyes open.
The young man’s crimson eyes landed with immense gravity on the girl standing not far away.
“A High-Ranking Succubus?”
