Serena’s Gaming Disaster and a Devilish Bargain

Chapter 24 • 1,574 words • 14 min read

Double Kill!

Triple Kill!

Quadra Kill!

And a Pentakill!

“What the heck! I’m playing with idiots! Are these teammates pigs or something?!”

As the exhilarating sound of a pentakill blared from the computer, Serena flung her mouse aside, slamming the keyboard with such force that the desk rattled loudly.

Lying on the bed, witnessing this outburst, I couldn’t help but furrow my brow, a vein throbbing visibly on my forehead.

“Hey! Serena, you fiend!” I shouted furiously at Serena, who was still in the gaming chair. “So what if you lost? Don’t you dare smash my keyboard! I bought that with half a month’s living expenses. If you break it, are you going to pay me back?!”

I was truly exasperated. It was just a game; winning and losing were common. Why get so worked up over it? She was acting exactly like I used to, sneaking into internet cafes during junior high.

“But… but…”

Hearing my roar, Serena turned her head, her lips pursed into a deeply wronged expression.

“But our jungler… he, he always runs away whenever there’s a team fight, boohoo… it’s so infuriating!”

As she spoke, her eyes suddenly welled up, her delicate nose drooping as if she were on the verge of tears.

Good heavens, did she really need to be this dramatic?

Seeing the shimmering tears in Serena’s eyes, I was speechless. While I suspected she might be hinting at something, it was just a game. Why was she getting so teary-eyed over a single loss?

Perhaps it was because I’d always been afraid of Chen Si Yi crying since childhood, but I simply couldn’t stand seeing girls cry. So, seeing the tears brimming in Serena’s eyes, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy. I sighed, then climbed off the bed and walked over to the computer desk.

“Alright… let me see…”

I snatched the mouse from Serena’s hand, clicked into the match history page, and then… I was instantly dumbfounded.

“Are you kidding me? A Bronze match, 1-8? What on earth are you playing?”

I turned to Serena, an expression of utter disbelief on my face. “And you have the nerve to say the jungler was bad? The other guy was MVP, took more than half of the thirty-two kills, and had the highest damage output. Now look at you!”

“Sona support, actually…”

I glanced at Serena’s equipment tab, then rubbed my eyes, thinking I was hallucinating.

“You actually bought an Infinity Edge? Are you brain-dead? Why would a Sona support build an Infinity Edge? Even some ability power would be better!”

“Boohoo… it’s… it’s more comfortable to play with an Infinity Edge…”

Serena, beside me, was still stubbornly trying to argue her point.

“Besides, I didn’t even do anything, and they kept flaming me, boohoohoo, stupid teammates, I’m definitely reporting them!!!”

Hold on, hold on, that’s enough! You’re playing so terribly, and you still have the nerve to report others? Your teammates were being merciful by not cursing out your entire ancestry!

“Boohoo, what do I do? I finally got a hundred victory points!” Serena’s voice was still laced with a sob. “If I lose one more game, I won’t reach Silver.”

“I’m really too useless, boohoohoo, this trash is an embarrassment to my demon ancestors!”

No, no, no. As a demon, to be so engrossed in a game, and then to wail and cry in front of me because you lost a promotion match— *that’s* what truly disgraces your demon ancestors!

“Go on, go on, Serena, move aside. Let me show you how to play League.”

I mercilessly shooed the sniffling Serena off the chair, adjusted the seat height, then sat down at the computer desk, picked up the mouse, and reopened the ranked queue interface.

“‘Arc Teammates Have No Family’? You’re quite good at naming yourself, aren’t you?”

Looking at Serena’s in-game name, my lips curved upwards, and I almost burst out laughing. That name—Serena, are you sure you’re not talking about yourself?

“Hmph, it’s, it’s originally because my teammates were terrible…”

Serena pulled up a stool and sat beside me, still muttering under her breath, her face flushed.

“This is my last promotion game, so don’t you dare lose it for me! I’m finally about to become a Silver god…”

“Silver is nothing but a joke of a god!” I said, utterly exasperated. “Just shut up, watch, and learn!”

Just then, the ranked queue alert signaled that the match had begun. I no longer bothered with Serena beside me, immediately picking a high-damage champion, intending to carry the game single-handedly.

“Ah, ah, this champion is really difficult! Can you even play it?”

“I told you to shut up! Just watch me play from the side. If I don’t win, I’ll castrate myself. How’s that?”

With that solemn vow, Serena simply uttered a soft ‘oh’ and covered her mouth, falling silent.

However, she immediately lowered her head and glanced at my crotch, sending a sudden chill down my spine.

What was that about? It was clearly just a joke. I couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat internally.

‘Serena wouldn’t actually think I’d castrate myself if I lost, would she? I wasn’t a brain-dead idiot like her! Who would do *that* for a single game?’

‘And besides, I don’t exactly have one right now, do I?!’

I took a deep breath, calming myself once more. My eyes widened, fixed intently on the screen as my fingers flew wildly across the keyboard.

Somehow, despite not having played in a long time, my skills hadn’t dulled; in fact, my reaction time seemed to have improved considerably.

Soon, with my practiced hand, I had achieved a score of 7 kills and 0 deaths, nearing ‘godlike’ status.

Seeing my fierce performance, Serena, who had initially been frowning beside me, finally relaxed. Her hands clasped across her chest, her gaze at me now held a touch of admiration for a true master.

“Lin Yan… I never realized you were so good at gaming. That’s truly amazing.”

“Hmph,” I scoffed arrogantly. “Naturally.”

Fifteen minutes later,

As the sound of the enemy base exploding echoed, Serena’s promotion match was successfully secured by me.

“Lin Yan-chan! You’re incredible, I love you to death!”

After winning the match and seeing herself promoted from Bronze to Silver, Serena, who had been craning her neck to watch the computer screen, was overcome with joy. She burst into tears of happiness, throwing her arms wide to pull me into her ample bosom.

“Go on, go on, get away from me. You may love me, but I certainly don’t love you.”

Feeling that familiar soft sensation, I remained expressionless, pushing Serena away from me with a look of disdain.

However, whether it was due to overwhelming excitement or sheer admiration for me, Serena showed no displeasure at being mercilessly pushed away. Instead, she wrapped her arms around me from behind, pulling me into another embrace.

“Hahaha, this is amazing! I’m finally Silver, thank you, Lin Yan! I was wrong before, I shouldn’t have messed with you!”

‘Eh, eh, eh? Has this damned demon finally had a change of heart? You know, it was better when you didn’t say anything, because now I’m absolutely furious!’

‘I should have just lost on purpose,’ I thought to myself. Then, Serena’s excited whispers reached my ears once more.

“It seems, with you, Lin Yan, helping me with ranked games, even reaching Gold—a rank I never dared to dream of—is just around the corner…”

“Hey, wait, wait, wait. What are you muttering to yourself?”

Catching the hidden meaning in Serena’s words, I immediately cut her off.

“Who said I’d help you with ranked games? I only grudgingly helped you with this one match. You want me to help you reach Gold? Don’t even dream about it!”

Indeed, who would be so foolish as to help their enemy climb the ranks? Serena was the culprit who turned me into a loli; it was already merciful that I hadn’t stabbed her with a knife. Help her rank up? Dream on!

“Boohoohoo, don’t be so heartless, Lin Yan-chan.”

Seeing my stern refusal, Serena shamelessly clung to me, wailing. “I was wrong before, I shouldn’t have secretly swapped your underwear while you were sleeping. Just be the bigger person and don’t hold a grudge against me!”

Good heavens, no wonder my blue and white striped underwear had turned into pink lace when I woke up! So it was you, you scoundrel, behind it all again!

Serena’s explosive confession made my breathing grow heavy, and with a flushed face, I was about to leap from the chair and slap her forehead.

But just then, a thought struck me, and I suddenly realized this was a golden opportunity—a perfect chance for retaliation.

“Alright, Serena, you want me to help you rank up, don’t you?” I asked, raising an eyebrow and revealing a mischievous smile.

Serena, who had been playing the victim, froze the moment she saw my smile.

Perhaps unable to comprehend my sudden change in attitude, it took her a long moment to nod hesitantly, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

“Alright then, it’s not impossible for me to help you rank up, but…” I clicked my tongue, feigning hesitation as I spoke.

“But as payment for helping you climb, I need you to help me deal with Chen Si Yi. What do you say? Do you agree?”
