‘What kind of joke is this?’
I roared like a peal of thunder. Anyone who came within ten paces of me would have their face blasted black!
‘Me? Look closely! I’m just a super shut-in, a total NEET who accomplishes nothing but binge-watching anime and playing games. You want someone like me to go clear a dungeon?’
I pointed at my own delicate, now-feminine cheeks, advancing on Ji Qianluo.
To be honest, hearing such words from a girl who appeared so prim and beautiful felt incredibly jarring.
Ji Qianluo, however, seemed to have anticipated my reaction.
Without a flicker of change in her expression, she remained calmly seated on the bed, smiling as she watched me.
Only after I had somewhat composed myself did she speak, a faint smile playing on her lips. ‘But you’re not a shut-in male anymore, are you? Look closely, you’re a charming little girl whom everyone adores now. Didn’t you just defeat a mage a moment ago?’
‘That was an accident, pure luck!’
I gritted my teeth. ‘And why should I help you clear a dungeon?’
The moment I finished speaking, Ji Qianluo suddenly put on a pitiful expression, gazing at me.
‘Oh? But isn’t Li Qingchen my boyfriend? If your girlfriend is in trouble and you don’t help, does that mean Li Qingchen is going to abandon me?’
‘Wh-when did I… Ah!’
It dawned on me. Just this morning, in Chapter Two, I had indeed agreed to be her boyfriend.
At the time, I had no idea what her objective was. So, this was her true intention all along?
But even if I was her boyfriend, what then?
‘That’s right, I’m abandoning you!’
I declared petulantly.
‘You inexplicably dragged me to this place and now expect my help? I’ll dump you immediately! That’ll show you!’
Ji Qianluo immediately wore a look of regret. ‘Oh, but you can’t do that, Li Qingchen. If you do…’
‘…you might die, you know.’
‘Are you planning to kill me?’
I immediately eyed Ji Qianluo with suspicion.
‘How could I? How could I bear to kill such a cute little Airi-chan?’
Ji Qianluo waved her hand. ‘But the contract… that’s a different story.’
‘A contract?’
My brow furrowed deeply.
‘What kind of contract?’
Ji Qianluo smiled.
‘It’s the “Li Qingchen must be responsible for me for all eternity” contract, you see.’
‘That contract name was absolutely something she’d just made up on the spot, I was certain of it!’
‘Can’t you be a little more serious?’
I rolled my eyes at Ji Qianluo.
Ji Qianluo shrugged indifferently. ‘Aren’t you the one who isn’t serious, Li Qingchen? I’ve already told you: it’s the “Li Qingchen must be responsible for me for all eternity” contract.’
‘So,’ I thought, ‘you’re telling me that name wasn’t just made up on the spot!’
I fell silent, staring at Ji Qianluo.
Ji Qianluo stuck out her tongue, waving her hand. ‘Alright, alright, no more jokes. This contract is actually what allowed you to cross over from your original world to this one. It doesn’t really have a specific name; I inherited it from my deceased father, the King.’
My mouth twitched uncontrollably as I asked, ‘So you used this contract to make me cross over?’
‘Exactly.’
‘And the condition for agreeing to the contract was to become boyfriend and girlfriend?’
‘Mhm, well, you can actually set the conditions freely.’
‘So,’ I thought, ‘you set such an embarrassing condition?!’
‘So, I crossed over because I agreed to be your boyfriend?’
‘Exactly.’
‘So if I hadn’t agreed back then, none of this would have happened?’
‘Exactly.’
‘………………..’
‘Any other questions, Li Qingchen?’
‘I… I suddenly want to rip my own mouth out.’
‘Try to be more optimistic, Li Qingchen.’
Ji Qianluo said with a comforting expression.
‘But, what did you mean earlier about the contract killing me?’
‘Oh, that.’
Ji Qianluo tilted her head. ‘That’s an additional condition of the contract. As the price for crossing over, the crosser must grant one request from the person they cross to.’
‘But I was forced to cross over, damn it!’ I thought.
‘So that’s your condition?’
‘Mhm!’
‘Damn you and your “mhm”!’ I fumed internally.
‘What happens if I don’t agree?’
A bead of sweat trickled down my temple as I asked, feeling uneasy.
‘Oh dear, that would be troublesome.’
Ji Qianluo pointed to her chin with an innocent expression.
‘The contract would backfire, and you’d die without a burial place, you know.’
‘Then why did you trick me into agreeing!’
I instantly became frantic.
‘Can’t you just agree?’
Ji Qianluo chuckled.
‘What kind of twisted logic was that!’ I thought.
Ji Qianluo’s words left me utterly speechless with indignation.
‘But I still have one more question!’
Suddenly, I remembered something. I extended my index finger, pointing abruptly at Ji Qianluo, my eyes fixed intently on her.
‘You just mentioned your father, the King, Ji Qianluo. How many years have you actually been in this world?!’
Ji Qianluo froze for a moment, caught off guard by my sudden accusation, before a smile bloomed on her face.
‘Oh dear, Li Qingchen, that’s quite an unexpected question. I thought you’d be more eager to know why you turned into a girl after crossing over.’
‘That… of course I want to know, but this question, I have to ask now.’
I furrowed my brow.
‘Didn’t I tell you something before?’
Ji Qianluo sat up straight, smiling as she looked directly at me.
‘Welcome to my world, Li Qingchen.’
‘I am a person of this world.’
‘How… how could that be?’
I stumbled back a few steps, utterly incredulous.
‘Then when did you cross over to my world?’
Ji Qianluo hummed in thought, then mused, ‘About a week ago, I’d say.’
Impossible!
Before, I had simply assumed Ji Qianluo was from my original world, just like me, and had merely crossed over earlier, lucky enough to become Queen.
But now, it was clear that wasn’t the case at all. This Ji Qianluo was an entirely different world’s inhabitant!
If the Queen of the Kingdom of Somlang standing before me, who had only crossed into my world a week ago, was Ji Qianluo, then who was the campus belle Ji Qianluo I had known for two years?
Were these two people truly…
Suddenly, as if reading my very thoughts, ‘Ji Qianluo’ spoke.
‘We are not the same person, you see.’
I abruptly looked up, astonished.
‘Not the same person?’
‘Ji Qianluo’ let out a soft chuckle. ‘Say, Li Qingchen, have you ever heard of parallel worlds?’
I froze.
‘You mean… parallel worlds?’
‘That’s right.’
‘Ji Qianluo’ nodded.
‘While it might be a bit different from what you understand, you do know that there’s a version of you in every parallel world, don’t you?’
I suddenly understood something, asking hesitantly, ‘Are you saying…’
‘Although this is a different world, it still adheres to that principle. Whether I crossed over to your world or you crossed over here, it was all by means of the contract my father, the King, gave me.’
‘However, the crossing this contract enables isn’t entirely complete. It only allows for a soul transfer, and the target of that transfer is always your own self in another world.’
‘So…’
I looked at ‘Ji Qianluo.’
‘Ji Qianluo’ nodded.
‘I merely crossed into the Ji Qianluo you knew, and then brought you to this world of mine.’
‘So I’m also a soul transmigration? Then why did I cross into this girl’s body? Shouldn’t it have been the me of this world?’
I tugged at the small dress I was wearing, asking almost hysterically.
‘Well, about that…’
‘Ji Qianluo’ suddenly gave me an ambiguous glance, then chuckled. ‘At first, I was a bit surprised too when I saw it. But I’m guessing it’s probably because the Li Qingchen of this world is a girl.’
‘What?!’
I was utterly dumbfounded.
‘In any case, it’s time for a proper introduction. My true name is Her Royal Majesty, Queen Lan Somlang Augustine Miller III. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.’
‘Li Qingchen.’
The Original World.
Xinghai City.
Inside the grand hall of a massive Western-style mansion, a slender, bespectacled boy with messy hair lay sprawled on a leather sofa in the center of the room.
His eyes were closed.
A petite girl was perched on his chest, her hands braced on either side of his neck, her slender legs tightly gripping his waist.
The girl wore a black witch’s robe.
Despite looking like an undeniably cute young beauty, her small face was marred by prominent dark circles under her eyes, and she wore a completely expressionless demeanor.
At this moment, the girl’s face was extremely close to the boy’s. She stared intently into his eyes, not blinking.
‘Tsk, he’s only tolerable when he’s asleep, I guess.’
The girl murmured.
Just then, the boy opened his eyes, and their extremely close gazes met squarely.
After a moment of silence.
‘Oh, my dear sister, what were you planning to do to your big brother just now?’
As soon as I opened my eyes, I gazed teasingly at the face that was practically pressed against mine, raising an eyebrow.
The girl, however, showed no change in expression.
‘Big bro, you’re awake. Here’s a present for you.’
As she spoke, she pulled off my glasses. The last thing I saw was two pale, tender fingers directly obscuring my entire vision.
Pfft.
‘My eyes! My eyes!’
