Jiang Chen suddenly rose to his feet, his imposing height of one hundred and eighty-eight centimeters radiating an inherent sense of pressure. His calm gaze alone caused the gold-rimmed glasses man’s voice to abruptly cease.
“So eager to play the knight?” Jiang Chen’s voice was low. “Perhaps you should first ask the princess you’re protecting how she blocked Zhou Yi’s path yesterday, right outside the girls’ dormitory.”
A sudden hush fell over their surroundings, and all eyes collectively turned towards Su Xiao.
Under their collective gaze, Su Xiao flinched, immediately lowering her eyelids, her lashes fluttering. “I—I didn’t mean it like that… I just wanted to talk with Senior Sister Zhou…”
“Does talking require cornering someone?”
Jiang Chen cut her off, his gaze dropping to the gold-rimmed glasses man. “You were just talking about upholding justice, weren’t you? Then tell me, what do you call it when three of you gang up on one person like this?”
“The Three Heroes battling Lu Bu?”
Suppressed laughter immediately rippled through the crowd.
Jiang Chen’s gaze swept over Su Xiao and the two young men beside her. With his other hand, he picked up the phone from the table and gave it a slight shake.
“Or perhaps we could start a group live stream? Let everyone weigh in and decide who’s truly bullying whom.”
As he finished speaking, his hand naturally settled on Zhou Yi’s shoulder, an unmistakable gesture of protection that everyone present could discern.
Su Xiao’s expression completely crumbled.
Watching Jiang Chen protect Zhou Yi so completely, from beginning to end, and seeing their natural intimacy, a wave of bitter jealousy surged through her heart, overwhelming her like a tsunami.
It was precisely this cold, powerful aura of Jiang Chen’s that she had always admired.
No matter how outstanding the eager rich second-generation heirs or so-called ‘campus gods’ who surrounded her were, none could even compare to a fraction of him.
She had believed that a man like him would never easily fall for anyone, nor would his emotions ever be swayed by another.
But why? Why was it this Senior Sister Zhou whom Jiang Chen favored?
A woman older than her, dressed plainly, and who couldn’t even be bothered to wear makeup—what right did she have to appear by Jiang Chen’s side again and again?
Her gaze, fixed on Zhou Yi, was practically spitting fire.
Yet, the moment she turned her head, she looked at Jiang Chen with a pitiful, delicate expression. “Senior…must you speak of me this way? I…”
Her eyes reddened as she pleaded, her tearful voice instantly drawing back the attention of the crowd, who had been silenced by Jiang Chen. Whispers began to spread once more.
The two young men immediately stepped forward, positioning themselves on either side of her, shielding her.
Just as the tension reached a boiling point, Zhou Yi suddenly let out a soft chuckle. She gently brushed away Jiang Chen’s hand from her shoulder. “Let me handle this.”
“I hadn’t intended to say much,” she stated nonchalantly. “After all, arguing with boring people only lowers your own standing.” Then, her tone shifted. “But now… I’ve changed my mind.”
She stood up and looked at the two young men standing in front of Su Xiao.
“Excuse me, gentlemen,” Zhou Yi began politely. “That emblem on your collars is quite distinctive. Is it from the Student Union?”
The gold-rimmed glasses man was taken aback by her polite, yet entirely off-topic, question. He instinctively touched his collar, a trace of superiority unconsciously surfacing on his face. “What if it is?”
“Oh, my apologies! How rude of me!” Zhou Yi immediately widened her eyes in feigned admiration, adopting an expression of awe. “So you two are truly Student Union officials!”
The two young men involuntarily puffed out their chests.
Then, the admiration on Zhou Yi’s face vanished instantly, replaced by a serious expression. “In that case, I would like to earnestly ask you two officials a question.”
“As members of the Student Union, upon witnessing a student suffer cyberbullying on the campus forum, your first instinct isn’t to investigate the truth or uphold justice. Instead, you stand here, provoking and fanning the flames based solely on one side of the story…”
She paused deliberately at this point. “May I ask, is this truly how Student Union officials should conduct themselves?”
The triumphant expressions on both their faces instantly froze. “What nonsense are you spouting?!”
“Is it not?” Zhou Yi cut them off unceremoniously, stopping them mid-sentence.
“Do I need to remind you of Article Three of the Student Union Charter? ‘To protect student rights and promote campus fairness’… Shall I continue reciting?”
“Or perhaps, we could all go to the Student Union office and discuss this at length in front of more officials?”
The two young men were instantly speechless, their faces alternating between red and white.
The boy with the spiky haircut frantically tried to remove his emblem, but Zhou Yi stopped him.
“Don’t be in such a hurry to take it off. It’s much better to wear it. That way, when the Disciplinary Committee comes to speak with you, it’ll save them a step in identification.”
Someone in the crowd loudly echoed, “I suggest investigating how they even got into the Student Union!”
“Exactly, with such conduct, how can they represent students?”
“How utterly disgraceful.”
Seeing the situation escalate, Su Xiao hastily tried to smooth things over. “Senior Sister, please don’t be like this; it’s all just a misunderstanding!”
“A misunderstanding?” Jiang Chen, who had been observing Zhou Yi’s performance while suppressing his laughter, now intervened. “That’s not what you were saying just now.”
He shook his phone, revealing the recording interface on the screen. A clear red dot indicated that the recording was currently in progress.
“I wonder if collective defamation is enough to warrant a disciplinary action?”
The two young men completely panicked. The gold-rimmed glasses man stammered, “W-we were just joking…”
“Joking?” Zhou Yi raised an eyebrow. “Shall we go joke around at the Student Union too?”
Su Xiao bit her lip, forcing out a smile. “It—it really was just a joke. We were just passing by, we won’t—we won’t bother you any longer.”
“That’s more like it,” Jiang Chen said indifferently, putting his phone away.
Su Xiao was so choked up she couldn’t utter another word. Gritting her teeth, she tugged at the sleeves of her two followers. “Let’s go.”
Under the scornful gazes of the crowd, the trio scurried out of the milk tea shop in disgrace.
The venue fell silent for a few seconds, then sporadic applause and muffled chuckles broke out.
Watching their hurried retreat, Zhou Yi nearly burst out laughing. She quickly coughed twice to cover her amusement.
Jiang Chen seemed to sense her hidden mirth, raising an eyebrow. “What are you smiling about?”
Zhou Yi quickly took a gulp of her milk tea. “Gulp, gulp… N-not smiling! This milk tea is delicious!”
As she spoke, she used her straw to poke at the pearls at the bottom of the cup, picking them up one by one to eat.
Jiang Chen watched her transparent attempt to hide her glee, a trace of doting amusement flickering in his eyes—a smile he hadn’t even realized he possessed.
At the same time, however, he felt a slight puzzlement. This unique way of eating pearls seemed vaguely familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere before. A hazy sense of déjà vu swirled in his mind, yet he couldn’t quite place it.
He put down his phone, then a thought suddenly struck him, and his lips curved into a smile. “Oh, right, do you want to hear the highlights from just now?”
Zhou Yi glanced at him curiously. “You actually recorded it? Play it for me.”
Jiang Chen chuckled as he tapped the prominent red recording icon on his screen, then pressed play.
However, what emanated from the phone was not the expected argument between the group, but the highly recognizable and catchy intro to MyGO!!!!!’s theme song, “KiLLKiSS.”
“Pfft—!” Zhou Yi couldn’t hold it in. The pearls in her mouth nearly shot out as she burst into laughter. She quickly covered her mouth, but her shoulders shook uncontrollably.
Even Li Yanze couldn’t help but turn his face away, stifling a laugh.
Watching her reaction, Jiang Chen could no longer suppress the curve of his lips. He slowly retrieved his phone, his fingertips tapping the screen twice, bringing the music to an abrupt halt.
