The Perplexing Quests and a Sweet Reunion

Chapter 151,801 words16 min read

“Yes, yes. Lord Domu, is there a problem?” Mira’s eyes widened, her eyebrows rising in curiosity as she gazed at Domu.

“No… no problem. Where do I need to press my fingerprint?” Domu thought, ‘It’s just a fingerprint. With my speed, I can surely record it before they even notice.’ With this thought, Domu rested her left hand on the gauntlet of her right.

“Understood, Lord Domu. Now, simply place your palm against mine for five seconds, and the recording will be complete,” Mira said, raising her left hand towards Domu with a smile.

‘Wait… why do I have to press my palm against yours?’

‘Normally, wouldn’t this be done on some electronic device or a magical one? Why… why hand-to-hand?!’

As Domu’s mind reeled in exasperation, Mira seemed to sense her confusion.

“Lord Domu, Mira is actually a mercenary guild’s signboard-girl type android, produced by Monkacru. I am, in essence, a highly efficient magic-powered machine with an independent personality!” Mira’s sweet smile remained, even as her words utterly stunned Domu.

‘Just how perverse is this Monkacru?’

‘And Miss Mira doesn’t look like a robot at all; she’s practically a real person…’ Domu felt that the technology in this other world was alarmingly similar to her former reality. It seemed there was no escaping it now.

Domu subtly shifted, blocking the gaze of other mercenaries, then removed the gauntlet from her right hand and pressed it against Mira’s left. Perhaps it was due to her earlier emotional turmoil, but Mira’s left hand felt remarkably warm.

By all appearances—her looks, personality, and even touch—she was indistinguishable from a real human. ‘Though, I wonder if she can bear children?’

‘Huh? What in the world am I thinking?’

‘I should just register as a mercenary quickly, then go find Dove and Soronna. I can pick up quests tomorrow.’

“Lord Domu, your mercenary information has been successfully recorded~ Hehe, but Lord Domu, I never imagined your hands would be so soft, just like a girl’s.” After the recording was complete, Mira couldn’t resist gently pinching Domu’s slender, long fingers.

Feeling Domu shyly withdraw her hand, Mira chuckled delightedly.

“Miss Mira, could you please show me the quests with the highest commissions?” Domu asked, her voice low and serious.

A notification had popped up on her game panel, identical to those in ‘Tears of the Goddess’, confirming successful mercenary registration. Yet, Domu found it unbelievable that this seemingly shy signboard girl dared to tease her.

She quickly retracted her hand, reapplying the gauntlet, before speaking.

“I’m… I’m so sorry, Lord Domu!” Hearing Domu’s tone, Mira realized that Lord Domu might be displeased.

Indeed, any man would likely be unhappy to be told they resembled a woman. Still, Lord Domu’s hands were truly so soft; that delicate, smooth sensation felt incredibly pleasant to touch. ‘Could it be… could Lord Domu actually be a…?’

Mira looked at Domu with a mysterious gaze, full of doubtful uncertainty.

Catching Mira’s gaze, Domu swallowed hard. ‘Did she find out…?’

‘No, that’s impossible. If it’s truly discovered, my plan to establish the reputation of “Silver Reaper” might be ruined.’

‘I might even end up being called “Silver Goddess” or something similar. What should I do? It feels so shameful!’

“Lord Domu, you’re actually a submissive, aren’t you?” Mira asked Domu quietly and mysteriously, all while her hands deftly brought up mercenary quests.

Seeing Domu’s helmet turn towards her, she even had the audacity to wink, adopting an expression that implied she knew everything.

“Miss Mira… my patience has its limits. Please refrain from making such jokes, alright?” Although Mira hadn’t suspected Domu was a woman, Domu’s tolerance for this android fujoshi was truly reaching its breaking point.

“Lord Domu~ The quests with commissions of 100 Is coins or more are all here~” Mira said, biting her lower lip, feigning embarrassment.

Yet, her eyes curved into crescents, as if she had uncovered some delightful little secret.

Domu, observing Mira’s expression, resolved to ignore her and focused her attention on the mercenary quests displayed before them.

After reviewing the mercenary quests, Domu felt utterly unable to comprehend this world.

Weren’t these supposed to be mercenary quests? Shouldn’t they be typical game tasks like hunting, escorting, or reconnaissance?

‘But what are these?!’

[Frog Tavern Quest: Seeking a mercenary with at least Level 3 fire magic for nightly protection. Barbecue experience highly preferred. Guard duty lasts one week, commission: 100 Is coins.]

‘I’d say this is simply a recruitment ad for a barbecue chef, wouldn’t you? Where are the promised mercenary quests?’

[Strongman Transport Quest: Recruiting ten robust mercenaries, at least High-tier Swordsmen. Base pay 5 Is coins per load, with more earned for more loads, up to a maximum of 100 Is coins!]

‘Ugh… this is clearly manual labor. No, even if it’s for money… as for reputation… how could doing this possibly enhance my reputation?’

[Ambiguous Flame Quest: Sincerely seeking a young, beautiful, and alluring female mercenary. Strong preference for mages. Work pays 100 Is coins per night.]

‘This is a blatant public relations recruitment ad! They’re not even bothering with disguises anymore!’

‘And this quest is clearly targeting female mercenaries!’

“Excuse me, Miss Mira, aren’t there any… normal hunting-type mercenary quests?” Domu’s voice was tinged with exhaustion.

“Ah… please wait a moment… There is one here, but it’s about to be canceled because no one has been able to complete it. However, if it’s Lord Domu, it will surely be effortless!” Mira said, sounding rather cheerful.

“What quest?” Domu asked cautiously, a hint of apprehension in her voice.

“You need to capture a Balyaas Rabbit in the center of the Velsen Forest, and…”

“That’s the one, Miss Mira! Please accept it for me,” Domu interrupted, speaking with a touch of urgency.

“Al… alright, Mr. Domu! It’s done. Please keep your mercenary badge safe!” Mira handed the registered and quest-accepted mercenary badge to Domu.

Upon seeing the prompt on her game interface asking whether to accept the quest issued by Mr. Tule, Domu selected ‘Yes’.

She then took the mercenary badge from Mira, turning to exit the guild. ‘After all, I’ve already spent a lot of time here. Dove will probably fuss if she doesn’t see me soon. I should go find them quickly.’

“Lord Domu~ Travel safely!”

Mira’s voice drifted from behind Domu, who raised her left hand and waved it above her head.

Inquiring with passersby, Domu easily located the small inn where Soronna was staying.

Pushing open the door, Domu saw Soronna and Dove seated at a window-side table. A fruit salad and a cheesecake, both looking appetizing, sat between them.

Soronna, holding a spoon, made a soft “Ah” sound, slowly guiding a bite of the cheesecake into Dove’s mouth.

Watching Dove’s eyes narrow in blissful enjoyment, Soronna’s heart, too, felt as if it were melting like the smooth cheesecake.

“Mama~ The cake Sister Soronna gave Dove is super delicious! Mama, come eat with Dove!” Dove was the first to notice Domu’s arrival.

She leaped from her chair, ran to Domu’s side, and excitedly pulled on her hand.

“Dove, you shouldn’t call me Mama when we’re outside,” Domu said, affectionately patting Dove’s head.

She followed Dove to the table, then gently lifted her onto a chair.

“Domu, I’ve booked out this entire inn, so there won’t be any outsiders here. You don’t need to hide your identity now, you know. Come, let’s eat something together,” Soronna warmly invited Domu.

“You booked out the inn? Thank you, Soronna. I’ll figure out the money.”

No wonder there wasn’t a single guest. Realizing Soronna had booked the inn for the convenience of their plan, Domu felt a pang of guilt. ‘It seems I’ll need to work hard to earn more money.’

“Don’t worry about the money; we’ll also take on some mercenary quests to earn some. Let’s eat first, and then we can all enjoy a wonderful hot bath together!” Soronna was clearly looking forward to the evening bath.

“Yes, I’ll also be taking on some mercenary quests during this time to earn commissions. So, if it’s possible, I’ll have to trouble you both to look after Dove.”

“Actually, regarding the money, you can just leave it to us… After all, Domu is…”

While the thought of spending more time with Dove delighted Soronna, she felt deeply uncomfortable imagining Domu, a goddess, having to struggle for money.

“This will also help me raise my reputation.”

“If that’s the case, then please entrust Dove to me without worry. I’ll take excellent care of her!” Soronna declared earnestly.

“Dove doesn’t want Mama to leave…” Dove, who had been happily eating cake, suddenly heard Domu mention leaving.

She immediately opened her eyes wide, gazing at Domu with reluctance, tears welling in her ruby-like eyes as if ready to fall at any moment.

“Mama isn’t leaving, Dove. Don’t be scared. Mama is just going to buy more delicious treats for you. Do you like this cake? Mama will buy you even more in the future!” Domu said, concealing her helmet to reveal her beautiful long white hair.

Her ruby-like eyes gazed tenderly at Dove, and a slight upturn of her lips formed a lovely arc. The image of a gentle, loving mother appeared like a painting within the small inn.

Yet, what Domu was truly thinking at that moment was how shamefully she was using food to coax a child.

“Mama… Dove really likes this cake. Mama, try some~” Dove carefully eyed the spoon in her hand, which held a tiny piece of cheesecake.

Slowly, she extended the spoon with the cake towards Domu’s mouth, her small body leaning half over the table.

“It’s delicious! Mama loves it!” Domu exclaimed, “Awoo!” as she took the cake from Dove’s spoon.

She giggled, then picked up another spoon, scooped a portion of cake, and fed it to Dove.

“Me too, me too!” Watching the mother and daughter feeding each other cake, Soronna excitedly demanded to join the feeding game.

The scene of the three beautiful women, both big and small, feeding each other was one of pure, ethereal beauty, like something out of a fairytale.

Accompanied by blooming lilies, it transformed the quiet, peaceful little inn into a veritable paradise.

However, at that moment, some found themselves too preoccupied to appreciate the beautiful scene.

“Brother Kase, are you completely mesmerized?” Os asked curiously, standing on the second floor with Kase and observing the lovely scene below.

Kase had been staring blankly beside him.

“My heavens, my heavens, my heavens, Os! Do you have any idea how much that cheesecake down there costs?”

“That’s no ordinary cheesecake; it’s the Cheese Grand Alliance’s latest, super-luxurious, limited-edition, thunderously invincible Grand Slam! It retails for a staggering 999 Is coins!!!”
