“Is it over?”
Liu Guochang looked around, still feeling a lingering dread. The ghastly screams of the malevolent spirit, coupled with the spectacle of Bai Wanwan inviting a deity to possess her, had left him so profoundly stunned that he had yet to fully recover his senses. Especially after hearing the deity named General Sun claim that he had “fought tooth and nail” just to seize the chance to possess Bai Wanwan for the summoning, this revelation sent an even colder shiver down his spine. Did that mean… all those deities were clamoring to assist Bai Wanwan?
“It’s over.”
Bai Wanwan’s eyes returned to their normal state. Her voice no longer carried its previous resonant power, and her demeanor, too, had shed its former uninhibited boldness.
“Master Bai, has General Sun departed?”
Deng Shuqi slowly pushed herself to her feet, her legs still feeling like jelly. The interior of Jinbaihan was now a scene of utter devastation; the shattered divine statues, as if scorched by thick smoke, had turned utterly black.
“Yes, the problem should be resolved. The Deng family was merely afflicted by a minor spirit; their inherent fortune remains untainted.” Bai Wanwan let out a long breath. For some inexplicable reason, she felt utterly drained, as if all her strength had been siphoned away. “As for this Jinbaihan, it is indeed a geomantically auspicious location. Whether your Deng family chooses to keep or abandon it is entirely up to you. There’s no concern that it will affect your family’s inherent fortune, so even closing it down would be fine.”
Bai Wanwan explained softly. Yet, truth be told, what truly astonished her throughout the entire ordeal was what the deity had told her during the possession: ‘What did it mean, “according to the rules set by my grandfather: three jars of fine wine, three sticks of good incense”?’ When had her grandfather ever established such a rule? Bai Wanwan didn’t understand, but she certainly committed the rule of “three jars of fine wine and three sticks of good incense” to memory. After all, without the deity’s possession, she feared this malevolent spirit would have been incredibly difficult to handle on her own.
“Thank you, Master Bai! I was truly blind before, and I offended you. Please, do not hold it against me.”
At this moment, Deng Shuqi was utterly convinced. Bai Wanwan was genuinely no ordinary person. Her method of ghost-exorcism was nothing short of cinematic. Had Deng Shuqi not witnessed it firsthand, she truly wouldn’t have believed it was real even now. Even at this very moment, she still felt as though she were dreaming.
“It’s fine. As for the payment…”
“Two million! I’ll have someone bring the cash to you right away!”
As Deng Shuqi spoke, she pulled out her phone with trembling hands and began contacting her subordinates to deliver the money. How could she possibly show any disrespect to a “great Buddha” like Bai Wanwan? A mere minor spirit had thrown her entire Deng family into chaos, causing Deng Shuqi no end of headaches. Yet, Bai Wanwan had dispatched this spirit with the ease of slicing vegetables. She was fortunate not to have done anything overly offensive to displease her earlier. Otherwise, it might have been Deng Shuqi herself, bound by chains and impaled by a steel trident, reduced to ashes.
While on the phone, Deng Shuqi covertly cast glances at Bai Wanwan from the corner of her eye. She mused that she ought to cultivate a closer relationship with Master Bai in the future. The world had been far from peaceful lately, and even official channels had begun to control these phenomena. Despite the stringent information blockade, Deng Shuqi’s sharp business acumen detected a distinct abnormality. This era, she feared, was on the cusp of a profound change… In the past, such bizarre occurrences were merely tales, but now, they were genuinely unfolding, one after another, across the nation. Therefore, forging ties with Bai Wanwan was by no means a bad thing for Deng Shuqi.
“Bring me two million three hundred thousand in cash.”
“But Miss, that’s all the money you have in your account…”
“Less talk.”
Two million three hundred thousand was all the usable funds Deng Shuqi had readily available. Any more would require her to petition the family elders and draw from the family business’s cash flow. With the Deng family’s current instability, producing two million three hundred thousand at once was no small feat.
“Master Bai, I’ve arranged everything for the payment.” Hanging up the phone, Deng Shuqi sidled up to Bai Wanwan, a hint of fawning evident in her smile. “There’s something else I’d like to ask Master Bai if they could help resolve…”
“It concerns my younger brother, who was rendered a vegetable after being hit.”
