I Can’t Stand It Anymore, I Snapped at Qin Dai

Chapter 381,252 words11 min read

Tongues of fire spewed from the soldiers’ guns, lighting up the world in an instant, followed by the deafening roar of continuous gunfire.

I covered my ears and instinctively crouched down, afraid of being accidentally shot by the soldiers behind me.

“Enough. Don’t waste too much ammunition.”

Su Yanlan’s voice was faint amidst the barrage, yet surprisingly steady. The surrounding soldiers obeyed her command and ceased fire.

I slowly stood up. The mutant was gone from my sight, leaving only a mangled corpse behind.

Its head had cracked open like a smashed watermelon, with red and white fluids spilling out everywhere.

Perhaps because I had seen such disgusting scenes a few times now, I didn’t vomit again, though my face paled slightly.

Su Yanlan was no longer by my side. She was standing on the broken tree trunk with Qin Dai, observing the corpse that the mutant had been gnawing on.

I didn’t know when Su Yanlan had gone over there, but curiosity drove me to check it out.

Beneath the mutant’s carcass lay the body of a woman in tattered rags. There were two ghastly bloody holes in her chest, and the flesh on her face was gone, leaving only exposed bone.

I felt a wave of nausea again.

Humanoid mutants like that one were almost always mutated humans, yet only humans knew how to torture humans best.

I couldn’t imagine what this woman had gone through while she was alive. I could see that her lower body was covered only by a few shredded strips of cloth.

The sorrow I felt for this unknown lady didn’t last long; I soon remembered my real purpose.

Squatting down, I struggled to lift the body, trying to find some useful legacy.

“Qin Yue, you bastard, what are you doing now!”

Above me, Qin Dai’s furious voice rang out. She probably thought it was inappropriate for me to rifle through someone else’s corpse like this.

It didn’t matter. If I didn’t loot it, someone else would. I felt Qin Dai was incredibly hypocritical; she didn’t even understand the principle of making the best use of everything in the apocalypse.

“Picking up stuff.”

I replied in a matter-of-fact tone. Most of the time, I would choose to humble myself and accommodate Qin Dai. But this time, I didn’t feel I was wrong in the slightest.

After rummaging for a while, I finally found a rusty dagger in the broken arm beneath the corpse.

I struggled to pry open the lady’s frozen, stiff fingers, wiped the dagger on the shredded cloth nearby, stood up, and prepared to return to the truck.

Qin Dai seemed unable to hold back any longer. She jumped down from the tree trunk and grabbed the wrist of the hand holding the dagger.

She twisted my arm, and my body was forced to contort into an extremely awkward posture along with her movement.

“Let go.”

She seemed to want me to drop the dagger.

But why should I? I didn’t need to go along with everything they wanted. This thing wasn’t hers.

Maybe my brain was broken, or maybe the oppression I had suffered these past days finally exploded. In short, I had no intention of submitting.

Of the three, Qin Dai was the vilest, and therefore, my disgust for her ran the deepest.

That kick she gave me before—I remember it. I will remember it for the rest of my life.

“Hiss… why are you so urgent? Was this dead guy your lover? Tsk tsk tsk…”

I cried out in pain but spoke provocative words, showing no intention of dropping the dagger.

Qin Dai froze, seemingly shocked that I would have a moment of defiance. I saw her eyes widen in astonishment.

Using my other hand, I viciously pinched the hand she was using to grab me, leaving a deep fingernail mark on her exposed skin. I successfully pulled back my captured hand.

Seeing her wince in pain, I laughed heartily. Fortunately, she hadn’t used her mechanical arm to grab me; otherwise, even if I broke my fingers trying to pinch it, I would probably only scratch the paint.

The long-lost feeling of attacking someone made me incredibly comfortable. After pretending to be a quail for so long, sometimes I unconsciously started acting like a timid little girl for real.

“You bastard!”

She swung her fist, smashing it toward me. It hit me right on the wrist. The dagger flew out, but I didn’t care that much anymore.

The pain woke me from my brief moment of satisfaction, forcing me to start worrying about her retaliation.

Qin Dai ultimately couldn’t continue her attack. Su Yanlan stopped her.

“Miss Qin Yue, why did you provoke Qin Dai?”

On the truck bed, Su Yanlan sat beside me, rubbing my hair.

This was the first time I had shown such a shrewish side in front of Su Yanlan. She probably couldn’t imagine that the usually docile-looking me would actually attack someone.

“Because she disgusted me. I couldn’t stand her anymore, so I just exploded at her. That corpse was blocking the road; it had to be moved eventually. If anyone else went to move it, she wouldn’t say a word. She’s just targeting me specifically.”

This wasn’t a lie. Actually, if anyone else had targeted me like this, I probably wouldn’t have attacked back. Qin Dai was the only exception.

This woman parades her love for her dead ex-girlfriend while wanting to sleep with me every time she sees me. It’s disgusting to the core. Is this how she takes revenge for her ex? I’ve never seen such a weirdo in my life.

Although the Leader also wants to pin me to the bed whenever she sees me, at least the Leader said from the beginning that I was a substitute and that I could only live by serving as a vent for her desires. She never pretended to be anything else.

“But have you thought about what you’ll do the next time you meet her? I won’t protect you again.”

Su Yanlan smiled, stopped rubbing my hair, and quietly cast her gaze into the fog.

The truck’s engine roared again. Unless something unexpected happened, we would be setting off soon.

See? I knew Qin Dai was targeting me. The moment I left, others went to move the corpse to clear the path, and she didn’t say a word.

“Qin Yue, just you wait.”

beside the truck, Qin Dai looked up and spat a threat at me.

I remained noncommittal. One always has to bear the consequences of one’s actions.

I didn’t think she would kill me anyway. At most, I’d get beaten up or bullied a few more times.

Well, it didn’t matter. Whether I could return to the camp alive was already a question.

Maybe this is what they mean by a dead pig not fearing boiling water.

“Why aren’t we moving yet?”

After waiting for a long time, I realized something was wrong. Why had the engine been running for so long, yet the truck hadn’t started?

“The battle isn’t over yet.”

Saying this, Su Yanlan gently closed her eyes. The soldiers on and off the truck began to go on alert again.

In the mist, dozens of pairs of green eyes glowed, slowly approaching the convoy.

“Did the gunfire attract these monsters?”

I asked, knowing the answer. Apart from the earlier gunshots, what else could attract so many mutants at once?

Su Yanlan glanced at me but didn’t speak.
