The Unseen Elevator’s Descent

Chapter 41695 words6 min read

Bai Wanwan shrugged, utterly dismissive of Liu Hanzhi’s sinister expression.

Her true interest lay in the treasures Liu Hanzhi had mentioned, those originating from the Demonic Domain.

Things like a beautiful ghost girl’s crimson undergarment, her wedding dress, black lace stockings, or dainty red bridal shoes—these truly captivated her.

Primarily, she was curious about the effects these items might possess, having been nurtured within the Demonic Domain.

“You seem quite interested in the Demonic Domain.”

Liu Hanzhi observed Bai Wanwan, lost in thought. Given the unique nature of the Demonic Domain, it was only natural for people to yearn for it.

After all, who wouldn’t desire a small world where they could dictate the rules?

Surely, Bai Wanwan harbored similar thoughts?

“It’s alright.”

Bai Wanwan murmured softly. Since the Demonic Domain had vanished on its own, there was no longer any point in lingering here.

She still owed three jars of fine wine and three sticks of good incense. Moreover, she needed to prepare for her soul-searching live stream tonight.

Wasting time on something so ethereal and uncertain simply wasn’t worth it.

With that thought, Bai Wanwan led Liu Hanzhi out of the inpatient building. Their repeated trips back and forth had significantly depleted Bai Wanwan’s stamina.

She hadn’t eaten properly for days, and climbing the stairs multiple times had utterly exhausted her.

Thus, despite the potential crowds, she and Liu Hanzhi opted for the elevator this time.

As they waited, Bai Wanwan and Liu Hanzhi engaged in desultory conversation. The inpatient department was bustling, and with only two elevators, they endured a lengthy wait before one finally arrived.

Just as Bai Wanwan grew bored from waiting, a sudden “ding” echoed, and an elevator behind them slowly opened its doors.

Being on the top floor, only a handful of scattered individuals stood silently in the corners when the elevator arrived.

Strangely, however, they showed no intention of exiting. Instead, they remained motionless within the elevator, their faces utterly devoid of expression.

Bai Wanwan studied their faces, a sense of unease stirring within her.

While it was true that those connected to a hospital often showed signs of misfortune in their fate and physiognomy—after all, who came to a hospital when perfectly well?—

The countenances of these particular individuals were distinctly more bizarre, reaching a truly chaotic state.

“Wanwan, hurry up!”

Liu Hanzhi, however, perceived nothing amiss. Having waited for nearly half an hour and utterly bored, she spotted the empty space in the elevator and promptly pulled Bai Wanwan inside.

“Did we even press for this elevator?”

Dragged into the elevator by Liu Hanzhi, Bai Wanwan was still pondering the subtly eerie situation around them.

“Wait! Behind us… where did this elevator come from?”

The inpatient building only had two elevators, both installed on the same side. When had a third elevator suddenly appeared behind them?

Just as Bai Wanwan realized this, the elevator doors slowly slid shut.

Inside the elevator, an absolute silence descended, broken only by the even breaths of the occupants and the subtle hum of the machinery.

By now, even the slow-witted Liu Hanzhi sensed something was amiss. She instinctively grasped Bai Wanwan’s hand, a flicker of tension crossing her features.

“Y-yes… where *did* this elevator behind us come from?”

The elevator plunged downwards, the numbers on the display steadily decreasing, like a countdown.

Ninth floor… eighth floor…

The inpatient building’s elevators typically stopped for long periods on each floor, but this one showed no signs of pausing.

First floor… negative first floor! Negative second floor! Negative third floor…

BOOM!

With a resounding crash, the elevator finally juddered to a halt. The floor number displayed sent a collective gasp through both Bai Wanwan and Liu Hanzhi.

“Negative… eighteenth floor?”

*Ding!*

With a soft chime, the elevator doors slowly parted…

What greeted Bai Wanwan’s eyes was a familiar corridor, reminiscent of a hospital from the last century.

A dim hallway, peeling paint, dilapidated rooms, and a rotting wooden sign all came into view. On the sign, three large characters, “Dissection Room,” were scrawled in an unknown red liquid.

“The Demonic Domain!”

Bai Wanwan and Liu Hanzhi exclaimed in near-perfect unison.
