My Blind Date Is My Idol’s Boss

Chapter 2 Part 22,282 words20 min read

“May I take your pulse?” Xia Nuo stood as she spoke, moving closer.

“I practice traditional Chinese medicine.”

Expressionless, Jiang Jibai said, “Don’t come too close. I’m allergic to perfume.”

Xia Nuo was wearing Chanel No. 5, an eau de toilette.

It wasn’t strong, and it didn’t contain any particularly allergy-prone ingredients.

She pressed her lips together and sat back down, staring at Jiang Jibai in a daze for two seconds.

Only now did she truly notice the cold distance radiating from him.

Earlier, she hadn’t sensed it because the moment he entered, his striking looks and unusual aura had bewitched her, making her overlook the icy “strangers keep away” vibe he’d carried from the start.

Xia Nuo couldn’t smile anymore.

It was obvious.

Jiang Jibai wasn’t interested in her and didn’t want to chat.

Her heart felt awful. She couldn’t accept it.

She was beautiful, with almost no flaws in face or figure. She’d had countless admirers growing up.

Yet the man in front of her showed not the slightest interest.

Xia Nuo stood up, grabbed her bag, and walked quickly toward the door.

The thin heels of her Valentino shoes made dull sounds against the expensive carpet.

She usually hated wearing high heels.

She’d only worn this beautiful torture device for this blind date with him.

At the door, Xia Nuo couldn’t help but stop and turn back.

The man hadn’t moved.

He was still seated, one hand propping his forehead, as if massaging his temple, or perhaps resting with his eyes closed.

She spoke, her tone tinged with anger.

“Mr. Jiang, if you didn’t want to go on a blind date, you could have refused to meet me from the start.”

“I’m sorry,” Jiang Jibai said.

Even his apology was cool and detached, without a trace of emotion.

Of course.
To him, she was just a stranger he’d only just met.

Why would someone like him bother to invest even a fraction of emotion?

With looks like his, he’d probably rejected countless women who admired him and chased after him.

Xia Nuo completely gave up.

She pulled open the door and left without looking back.

Over ten seconds later, the private room door opened again.

As expected.

Jiang Jibai didn’t turn around.

He had been waiting for Zou Jiayun.

“Jiang Gu! Are you trying to piss me off to death?!”

Zou Jiayun stormed in, furious, slamming her Hermès Birkin heavily onto the table in front of him.

She hadn’t fully left earlier. She’d stayed alert, waiting in the hotel lobby downstairs.

Her butt had barely touched the sofa when she saw Xia Nuo come out of the elevator, eyes red, lips pressed tight, striding quickly toward the exit.

Zou Jiayun immediately understood what had happened.

She glared, lowering her head to look at Jiang Jibai.

“You’re incredible.”

“You chased the girl away in seconds!”

“Aren’t you just playing with her feelings?”

“How am I supposed to explain this to your Uncle Xia in the future?!”

Jiang Jibai didn’t react. He leaned back, eyes closed.

“I told you not to meet her.”

“You insisted on making me come.”

“You’re the one playing with people.”

“If you don’t want this to happen again, then give up on arranging blind dates for me.”

“If you don’t go on blind dates, when are you going to get married?!” Zou Jiayun snapped.

“I’m only twenty-six.”

“What are you in such a hurry for?” Jiang Jibai pinched the bridge of his nose and stood up, turning toward the door.

“Don’t worry. I won’t become a monk like my brother.”

“You and Dad can put your hearts at ease, alright?”

Zou Jiayun looked at his tall, upright figure and pressed her lips together.

Suddenly, she spoke.

“Jiang Gu, tell me honestly.”

“Are you gay?”

“No,” he replied.

Crisp. Calm.

“Then why don’t you date?” Zou Jiayun pressed.

“When you were in middle and high school, I never told you not to date early like other parents.”

“So many girls gave you love letters.”

“For three years of high school, I saw so many pretty girls in your class during parent meetings.”

“I don’t believe not one of them ever made your heart stir.”

“Whether you believe it or not, my orientation is normal,” Jiang Jibai said evenly.
He pulled open the door.

“And can you take a break?”

“Stop using other girls as entertainment.”

“I don’t have time to play along with this kind of farce every day.”

“If you’re really that bored, why don’t you drag Dad to the community square and dance?”

“Even if I danced in the square day and night, it wouldn’t stop me from arranging blind dates for you!” Zou Jiayun yelled.

A moment later, watching Jiang Jibai’s figure almost disappear, realization struck her.

She clenched her teeth and shouted after him again.

“You little bastard, you just PUA’d me!”

“Isn’t blind dating exactly this process?”

“Meet, like each other, or split if you don’t!”

“How does that become me toying with girls?”

“I will never give up arranging blind dates for you!”

“If you really like women, out of a thousand, ten thousand dates, you’ll meet the one you want, I’m telling you!”

“And if you dare not show up to the blind dates I arrange, I’ll really die in your bedroom!”

“Whatever makes you happy,” Jiang Jibai replied.

It was Saturday. No need to return to school.

After eating with Wen Junru, Wen Xi took a car back to the villa.

Before sleeping, she opened WeChat.

No new messages from Jiang Yin.

Back at the hotel earlier, Jiang Yin had said a few words advising her to give up on marrying Jiang Jibai, then hung up.

Wen Xi had left her a message on WeChat asking whether she knew Jiang Jibai.

Just as she was about to send another message, Jiang Yin sent a voice message.

“I don’t know him personally, but my brother’s pretty familiar with him.”

“I’ll be honest, Xixi—you have no chance of marrying him.”

Logically, with Wen Junru’s business empire and Wen Xi’s entry into high society through her father, even if she didn’t know Jiang Jibai, she should at least have heard of the Jiang family.

After all, the Jiang family’s real estate company was a deeply rooted old powerhouse in Ning City.

But Wen Xi didn’t live with her father.

Considering her studies and the inconvenience of distance, Wen Junru rarely took her to rich-circle banquets, formal or informal.

As a result, she was unfamiliar with many of Ning City’s wealthy sons and daughters.

Wen Xi was scratching her head in frustration.

She desperately wanted to meet her idol through Jiang Jibai. She didn’t want to give up this hard-won opportunity.

Biting her lip, she typed while holding her phone.

Niangao:[Why no chance? Tell me about Jiang Jibai in detail.]

Yinyin:[It’s just that Jiang Jibai is extremely ascetic and completely uninterested in women!]

Niangao: [Huh? Does he like men?]

Yinyin:[I’m not sure.]

“I just know Jiang Jibai is insanely handsome, super tall, and rich.”

“With conditions like that, he’s twenty-six and hasn’t had a single girlfriend.”

“That’s either because he likes men, or because, like his brother, he has no worldly desires.”

“He’ll probably end up becoming a monk like his brother.”

Yinyin:[You’re in the same city.]

“You should’ve heard about his brother, right?”

Niangao:[My dad mentioned it. He said a young, successful rich second-gen became a monk last year. That should be him.]

Niangao:[But Jiang Jibai doesn’t necessarily have to become a monk, right?]

“Maybe he just hasn’t met someone he likes?”

“Or maybe he has extreme cleanliness issues?”

“If he liked men, in this society, there’s no real need to hide it.”

Yinyin:[That I don’t know.]

“But even if he likes women, he’s super cold!”

“I’ve heard my brother talk about his high school days.”

“His desk drawer refreshed with stacks of love letters every day—couldn’t even throw them away fast enough.”

“And he was still single for twenty-six years.”

“His standards must be ridiculously high.”

“If you’re not a fairy descending from heaven, you probably won’t catch his eye.”

Wen Xi lay there, staring at the crystal chandelier, hesitating.

Her desire to see her idol was just too strong.

She opened her front camera to look at her fair, soft face, then switched back to WeChat and sent a message.

Niangao:[Actually… I think I’m pretty good-looking. I want to try.]

Yinyin:[Even if you’re pretty, Jiang Jibai has seen countless beauties. Ordinary pretty girls probably don’t even register to him.]

Yinyin:[Unless you’re super, ultra, insanely beautiful.[

Yinyin:[By the way, We’ve been chatting for two years and never exchanged photos. Why don’t you send me one? Let me see how beautiful you are, then we’ll talk.]

Niangao:[Okay.]

Wen Xi sent over an ID photo from her album.

One second. Five seconds. Ten seconds…

Jiang Yin replied.

A long string of exclamation marks that nearly filled the screen.

Yinyin:[????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
Yinyin:[Baby, don’t tell me this isn’t photoshopped?]

Niangao:[It’s just a standard ID photo. Taken at the campus photo studio at the start of junior year. The owner only adjusted the lighting.]

The chat went silent again for a long time.

Just as Wen Xi was getting sleepy, Jiang Yin sent a voice message, sounding uncertain.

“Then maybe you should… try going in front of him?”

Before Wen Xi could reply, Jiang Yin called.

She answered.

“I swear—”

“I keep looking at this photo and you just get prettier!”

“You’re way too beautiful, baby!”

“And you look so soft—how is that possible?”

“Honestly, you look more like a celebrity than celebrities!”

“With your looks, you’re still chasing idols?”

“Brother Qiao should be chasing you!”

Wen Xi fell silent.

After a brief pause, Jiang Yin’s tone turned serious.

“But honestly, I still advise you to think carefully.”

“You’re so beautiful—I wouldn’t even mind you becoming my real sister-in-law.”

“You’re a good person too; I wouldn’t feel threatened at all.”

“But since your goal is to see Brother Qiao…”

“Becoming Brother Qiao’s boss’s wife might not be as good as becoming his stan’s wife.”

“That way, you could see Brother Qiao every day.”

“One step to heaven.”

Wen Xi:“……”

She said seriously, “An idol is an idol. He can’t become a husband.”

Jiang Yin clicked her tongue.

“Your values are so upright, baby.”

Then suspiciously pressed, “Tell me honestly. When you, you know… have you ever fantasized about Brother Qiao?”

Wen Xi didn’t understand. “What do you mean ‘that’?”

“Cough.”

Jiang Yin lowered her voice.

“I mean… touching yourself.”

“Oh.”

“I haven’t even learned how to play mahjong yet.”

“……”

“Not that kind of self-draw.”

“I mean touching yourself.”

“……”

Wen Xi finally understood.

“I haven’t.”

Jiang Yin said faintly,

“You’re such a good baby.”

“You make me seem really dirty and shameful.”

“That’s nothing,” Wen Xi said casually.

“Girls making themselves happy is the same as guys doing that kind of thing.”

“There’s nothing shameful about it.”

She steered the conversation back.

“Yinyin, I still want to try.”

Jiang Yin sighed.

“Marriage is a big deal. You need to be careful.”

Wen Xi sighed too.

“But I really, really want to see Brother Qiao.”

“If I don’t try once, I’m scared I’ll never see him in my whole life.”

“That would kill me, Yinyin.”

Jiang Yin relented.

“You’ve made up your mind—that’s one thing.”

“But Jiang Jibai is another.”

“He definitely won’t agree.”

Wen Xi transformed into a brave little bull.

“If I don’t try, how will I know?”

Jiang Yin admired her.

“If you’ve really thought it through, then go.”

“If you become Brother Qiao’s boss’s wife,”

“It’ll be convenient for me to bask in your shade later.”

“I’ve thought it through,” Wen Xi said, troubled.

“But how do I even approach Jiang Jibai proactively?”

“If I go directly to the Jiang family and bring this up in front of their elders, that’s way too ridiculous.”

“If my dad finds out, he’ll probably have a heart attack from anger.”

“Are you sure you want to go this route?” Jiang Yin asked.

“Absolutely sure!” Wen Xi replied.

“Then I have a way.”

“Wait a bit.”

“Okay!”

Less than ten minutes later, Jiang Yin sent over a location.

“This address.”

“Tomorrow, from eleven in the morning to five in the afternoon, Jiang Jibai will be there.”

“What’s he doing there?” Wen Xi asked instinctively.

“Blind dates,” Jiang Yin said, her tone extremely gossipy.

“According to very reliable information, he has ten girls to meet tomorrow.”

“Ten?” Wen Xi was shocked.

“He’s really good at blind dating.”

“All arranged by his mom,” Jiang Yin said.

“So if you’re really determined, seize the chance.”

“If a girl before you catches his eye, your plan to become your idol’s boss’s wife will be over.”

Wen Xi clenched her fist, her tone firm, as if joining the Party.

“I’ll definitely work hard tomorrow and make it ashore.”
