Bedtime Supervision Service

Chapter 141,691 words15 min read

When Xu Shuche heard the words “voice call bedtime service,” he raised an eyebrow, surprised.

“What rudeness are you talking about?”

“That… you know.”

Jian Yixun’s voice turned hesitant.

“What happened in the afternoon.”

Xu Shuche understood immediately.

He had thought a straight guy like Jian Yixun wouldn’t care about other people’s feelings at all.

Unexpectedly, he actually had some conscience, knowing it had been a rather rude act and even coming back to apologize.

Xu Shuche had originally still been a little bothered by it.

But now that irritation had mostly faded.

“It’s fine.

Really.

I didn’t think you were rude.

Like you said, it’s just human nature.”

Jian Yixun’s tone suddenly became urgent.

“You were angry at the time.

I really want to make it up to you.

But I’ve never apologized to someone like this before, so I…”

Xu Shuche sighed softly.

“Alright.

Then what exactly do you mean by voice call bedtime service?”

Hearing his tone soften, Jian Yixun hurried to explain, afraid he might change his mind.

“It just means you stay on a call with me.

I supervise you while you sleep.”

Xu Shuche hesitated.

“Wouldn’t that be strange?”

“How is that strange?”

Jian Yixun countered.

“Have you never stayed on a call with your buddies to watch a movie?”

Xu Shuche did not have “buddies.”

The few friends he had were not close enough to watch movies together like that.

Hearing his silence, Jian Yixun pressed on.

“It’s just staying on a call to remind you to sleep.

You have a history of staying up late.

You’re still sick.

This way I can supervise you to sleep early.”

His reasoning sounded perfectly justified.

Xu Shuche could not find a single argument to refute him.

In a daze, he climbed into bed with the phone still connected.

This was his first time sleeping on a voice call with someone.

Even though he knew the other person could not see him, the feeling of being watched was still strangely strong.

Xu Shuche cleared his throat and enunciated carefully.

“Jian Yixun, I’m going to sleep.”

From the other end, he heard commentary and cheering.

He realized Jian Yixun was probably watching a basketball game.

Just as he was about to ask, the commentary and cheers suddenly disappeared.

The line fell quiet, leaving only Jian Yixun’s breathing.

“Are you watching a game?” Xu Shuche asked.

“Yeah.

I muted it,” Jian Yixun replied.

“Sleep.”

Xu Shuche pressed his lips together.

For what felt like the third time, he said, “Jian Yixun, I’ll treat you to a meal tomorrow.”

Jian Yixun laughed.

“Deal.

You’re treating me tomorrow.

Now hurry up and sleep, Senior.”

“Then I’m sleeping.”

After saying that, Xu Shuche thought for a moment and added softly, “Good night.”

He closed his eyes and lay there for a while.

Then he murmured quietly, “You should sleep too.”

“I will.

I’ll sleep after this game ends.”

There were faint rustling sounds on Jian Yixun’s side.

Strangely soothing.

Almost like ASMR videos.

Xu Shuche turned over and placed the phone beside his pillow.

“I’m really sleeping now.

Jian Yixun, good night.”

“Mm.

Okay.”

Jian Yixun lowered his voice as well.

“Sleep well.

Good night.”

Xu Shuche had thought sleeping on a call would affect his rest.

In reality, it made no essential difference from usual.

When he woke up the next morning, the WeChat voice call was still connected.

The duration showed exactly eight hours.

He rolled over and stretched lazily.

A comfortable, low hum slipped from his lips.

Suddenly, he heard a flustered rustling sound from the phone speaker.

“Senior, you’re awake?”

Jian Yixun’s breathing sounded slightly hurried, tinged with faint heaviness.

Xu Shuche had finally managed to forget what had happened the previous evening.

Yet the sound of his voice stirred those images right back up.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Why does it sound like you’re…”

“I just finished my morning run.”

Jian Yixun unscrewed a bottle of mineral water and gulped a few mouthfuls.

“Did you sleep well last night, Senior?”

Xu Shuche nodded instinctively.

Only after nodding did he realize the other person could not see him.

“I slept well.”

After answering, he hesitated before continuing softly, “While I was sleeping… did I… did I…”

“Did you what?”

“Did I talk in my sleep or grind my teeth or anything…”

Xu Shuche felt embarrassed just asking.

His face grew warm.

“I’m just asking.”

“Those things?

Let me think.

I think you did.”

Xu Shuche tensed instantly.

“Huh?

What did I say?”

With mock seriousness, Jian Yixun replied, “You said Jian Yixun is extremely handsome.

Everyone else pales in comparison.

Especially that Guan Jingshan from the lab.

Not even having a face that could topple a nation, yet daring to flirt.

How speechless.”

Xu Shuche had been listening carefully at first.

But halfway through, he realized Jian Yixun was spouting nonsense again.

“Jian Yixun!”

Jian Yixun laughed shamelessly on the other end.

“What’s wrong, Senior?

Wasn’t that well said?”

“You’re so annoying,” Xu Shuche snapped, his face flushing red at the thought that he had actually listened seriously.

“You bully me again.

I’m not treating you to lunch anymore!”

Hearing that he had teased him too far, Jian Yixun quickly coaxed him back.

“Don’t, Senior.

I was wrong.

Where are we going today?”

Xu Shuche threw out a fierce “Go eat by yourself,” and hung up.

Jian Yixun, in an excellent mood, whistled at a cat at home and went to his wardrobe to pick out the most youthful outfit he could assemble.

If Lin Xiu saw him dressed like this, he would definitely say he looked like a peacock about to spread its feathers in courtship.

For Xu Shuche, this cold had come on aggressively but did not torment him for long.

After two days, only occasional nasal congestion and coughing remained.

The fever was gone.

After taking his medicine and feeling fairly energetic, he brought two books to the lab.

Guan Jingshan was there as well.

“Morning, Senior,” he greeted.

Remembering what had happened the previous afternoon, Xu Shuche felt awkward.

“Sorry about yesterday.

Jian Yixun doesn’t actually have anything against you.

He was just upset because I hadn’t rested properly.

If you’re bothered by it, I’ll apologize on his behalf.”

Guan Jingshan had been leaning over the table writing something.

After hearing him, he looked at Xu Shuche thoughtfully for a long moment.

“Senior, are you speaking for Brother Xun?”

Unsure what he was thinking, Xu Shuche responded with a quiet “Mm.”

“I never knew you two were so close.

Seems the rumors were wrong.”

Guan Jingshan’s peach blossom eyes narrowed slightly.

“Brother Xun doesn’t actually dislike your type of guy.

I was careless.”

“But don’t worry.

I call him Brother Xun because I respect his academic ability.

It won’t affect the progress of our project.”

After saying that, he picked up a folder from the table.

“In that case, I won’t disturb you.

I’ll head out first.”

“As long as you’re not bothered,” Xu Shuche let out a breath.

“Really, I’m sorry.”

“No need.”

At the door, Guan Jingshan suddenly turned back and winked lightly.

“But Senior, you still owe me a meal.

Don’t forget.”

Before Xu Shuche could respond, he had already disappeared from the lab entrance.

These first-year brats.

One was a Schrödinger’s straight man who insisted on doing all sorts of strange things with him.

The other spoke in riddles, ambiguous and elusive.

Just as he thought of Jian Yixun, his phone vibrated.

Jian Yixun had sent him an address.

It was a restaurant on campus.

“I think this place is good.

We can eat here during lunch break.”

It was a Western-style restaurant, mainly serving steak.

Affordable for students.

Decent taste.

Compared to other popular spots, there was no long queue.

From any angle, it was a perfect place to treat someone.

Xu Shuche only finished his tasks at eleven-thirty.

When he hurried to the restaurant, Jian Yixun was already waiting.

“Sorry,” Xu Shuche said as he sat down across from him.

“I kept you waiting.”

“Not long.”

Jian Yixun pushed the menu toward him.

“I just got here.

Managed to grab a seat.”

Xu Shuche had never eaten here before.

He ordered a recommended steak set and glanced at the price.

Reasonable.

A budget restaurant.

He had long heard that Jian Yixun came from a wealthy family.

He had been mentally prepared to be heavily overcharged.

Unexpectedly, the young master could eat affordable steak just fine.

He stared at Jian Yixun absentmindedly.

Under that gaze, Jian Yixun grew slightly uncomfortable and subtly checked his carefully chosen outfit.

“Senior, why are you looking at me?”

“Hm?

Nothing.”

Xu Shuche withdrew his gaze.

“I was just thinking it’s surprising you can eat at a budget steak place.”

“What’s wrong with that?”

Not hearing any praise for his outfit, Jian Yixun looked faintly deflated.

The earlier sparkle in his eyes dimmed slightly.

“Back in undergrad, my dorm mates and I went out every week for barbecue stalls and late-night street food.

I love street food.

Next time I’ll treat you there.”

An approachable straight young master.

Xu Shuche silently updated his impression of him.

Just as he was about to speak, he noticed a delicate-looking boy approaching them, face flushed red, holding a carefully sealed letter.

Jian Yixun followed Xu Shuche’s gaze and turned his head.

His brows furrowed instantly.

His knuckles began tapping the table impatiently, adopting a guarded posture.

It seemed he already knew what was coming.

The boy stopped a few steps away, head lowered almost to his chest.

His voice was so soft one had to listen carefully.

“Hello, Senior Jian.

I’m a third-year student from the Art Department.

I’ve liked you for a long time.

This is a letter I wrote for you.

Please accept it.”
