Not Enough

Chapter 731,284 words11 min read

“■■!”

The pale entity cried out once more in a voice incomprehensible to humans.

However, not a shred of fighting spirit remained in that sound.

The blood-shrouded girl, completely indifferent, took another step forward.

The demon fell into a brief silence, then suddenly snapped its dual wings wide.

The moment the black wings—distinct from its pale body—unfurled, the originally bright restaurant plunged into dimness. Within a single breath, the entire area was swallowed by absolute darkness.

It wasn’t just light that vanished; sound died as well.

The world abruptly became a silent, sightless void of pure black.

Su Mian’s footsteps faltered, but only for a heartbeat. Guided by an primal instinct, she suddenly reached out and made a forceful grab!

Something cold and slimy fell into her grasp.

It was the demon’s tail!

The next instant, the darkness shattered.

The demon, which had smashed through the upper floors in an attempt to flee, was yanked back down through a rain of stone debris.

Thud!!

The massive body, over three meters tall, was swung like a sledgehammer into the ground.

The floor tiles disintegrated instantly, leaving a massive crater. Dust and rubble billowed everywhere!

But it was far from over.

To Su Mian, the gargantuan demon seemed weightless. Gripping its tail, she slammed it repeatedly into the surroundings. Within seconds, the entire restaurant structure began to groan under the strain.

The rumbling sounded like a localized earthquake.

The demon flapped its wings several times, trying to break free, but failed. It attempted to repeat its previous trick—severing its own tail to escape.

However, before it could act, the girl slammed it into the ground again and stepped on it.

Her physical weight alone couldn’t have pinned the demon, but she was aided by the blood-red storm that had permeated the room.

The dense blood-light pinned the pale Elite firmly to the floor. Su Mian pressed her foot into its back and grabbed its wings with both hands.

And then…

“■■——!”

The demon, which hadn’t reacted even when severing its own four arms, let out an ear-piercing shriek. Its body convulsed in a frantic struggle. Clearly, these black wings meant something different to it.

But its struggle was meaningless.

The black wings dissolved into the blood-light the moment they were torn away.

The crimson energy, having devoured the wings, coalesced behind Su Mian, faintly forming a shadow that resembled her.

The shadow broke into a silent, manic laugh, its mouth splitting open to reveal razor-sharp fangs.

Sensing its end, the demon let out a mournful, terrified wail—one so clear that even Jiang Xun, who had used the chaos to regroup with Old He and drag the unconscious Kite away, could hear its despair.

The youth looked over just in time to see the Elite demon—the very thing that had pushed them to the brink—struggling to lift its torso. It had just raised its head when…

Crunch!

The blood-red shadow lunged past Su Mian and bit the demon’s head off in one go. With a violent flick, the remaining half of the body was tossed into the air, swallowed mid-flight by the expanding crimson tide!

Amidst a series of hair-raising chewing sounds, the powerful Elite demon died.

The entire process involved very little struggle; the death was swift, clean, and utterly devoid of dignity.

Was it too weak?

Jiang Xun looked at his own wretched state and that of his teammates, choosing to remain silent.

On the other side.

After devouring the demon, the crimson light receded back into Su Mian’s body.

She reached out her hand, catching a golden gemstone that drifted down from above.

The egg-shaped stone was breathtakingly beautiful, with a strange light flowing within its depths. This was the very stone Yu Fu had offered to the demon, and one of the primary reasons Jiang Xun’s team had come to Yujing.

“A Demon Core.”

The Core—also known as a ‘Mana Crystal’ or ‘Demon Source.’

No one knew exactly when these strange gems began appearing in the world. Their origin and total number remained unknown. They allowed humans to manifest certain demonic powers, but their primary function was summoning.

These items held an immense attraction for any demon. Using their power in a ritual—even an imprecise one with unstable anchors—would almost certainly draw a response, usually from a high-level demon.

Just as before, the ritual Yu Fu prepared was crude, and the anchor had even been destroyed. Yet, the demon had still responded and forced its descent into this small restaurant simply because he held this stone.

Now, with the Elite demon devoured, this miraculous item had fallen into the girl’s hands.

What would she do with it?

Jiang Xun didn’t know.

He only knew that he was likely about to gamble with his life.

He could only hope that this ‘Succubus,’ who seemed markedly different from their last encounter, was still as easy to talk to. Otherwise, things were about to get truly ugly!

Su Mian was oblivious to his thoughts. After consuming the four-armed Elite, her appearance began to shift as the blood-light returned to her body.

Her tall stature visibly shrunk. Her long hair, previously streaked with silver, returned to a pure, deep black. Her eyes remained red, but they were now clouded by a mist, making them difficult to read.

The shape of her eyes and face seemed to shift slightly as well. The changes weren’t drastic, yet the overall difference was striking—to the point where she felt like a completely different person.

Her slender frame made her look fragile, and her youthful, slightly soft face could easily trigger a protective instinct in others. Her expression was blank, and paired with those hazy eyes, she looked entirely harmless.

Had she not just hand-shredded an Elite demon, she would have looked like the most vulnerable person in the room.

But clearly.

These were all false pretenses—illusions meant to deceive!

And the reality proved it.

“Not enough.”

Lowering the golden stone, the girl touched her stomach with her other hand. Eating an Elite demon had provided her with no satisfaction whatsoever. On the contrary, she felt even hungrier!

Like a person who hadn’t eaten for days: they might endure before touching food, but once they taste a delicacy, the first bite makes it impossible to control their desires.

This was why some people could literally eat themselves to death.

Having starved for too long, they only want to keep eating, unable and unwilling to be satisfied.

The girl was in a similar state. She had been hungry for too long; a mere Elite demon could not satisfy her appetite.

“Not enough! Not enough! Not enough!”

More.

She needed more!

After a brief silence, those blood-red eyes fell upon the three remaining people in the restaurant.

Su Mian struggled for a split second. After all, the three Bureau members were different from demons, and Jiang Xun was, at the very least, a tentative acquaintance.

But her rationality lasted only a moment. Very soon, another hazy will, driven by ultimate desire, took control!

This consciousness was incredibly pure.

Eat, eat, eat!

The girl, after a slight pause, lowered her gaze. Her lips slowly curled into a grin, revealing sharp fangs.

Seeing the change in her expression, Jiang Xun’s pupils shrank violently.

It seemed the worst-case scenario had happened!

Though the youth didn’t understand what was going on with Su Mian, his perception of danger was razor-sharp. Detecting the anomaly, he shoved the unconscious Kite into Old He’s arms without hesitation.

“Go!”

Without waiting for a response, Jiang Xun stood up to meet the girl who was walking toward them.
