After sending White Feather away, Ming Yu no longer had the mood to admire the sea.
Out of boredom, she tapped her earpiece, projecting a holographic interface, her fingers idly swiping across the screen.
This place was too far from Pharos’ base station—there was almost no signal.
She could only browse the contents stored on her local drive.
At that moment, Ming Yu’s gaze sharpened slightly.
She noticed an email marked as “Unread.”
“January 14, 2625, 01:34”
“Sender: Nightingale”
Ming Yu had said goodbye to Nightingale late on the night of the 13th.
She hadn’t expected Nightingale to send her an email in the early hours of the 14th.
Generally speaking, people living in the city rarely used email.
Most relied on communication apps for real-time messaging.
Only hunters like Ming Yu, who roamed the seas, often had no signal on their devices and couldn’t check or reply in time.
Clearly, this email had been sent before she left the port’s signal range.
Ming Yu didn’t have the habit of casually checking messages when bored.
She rarely used the extra functions of her smart earpiece, which was why she hadn’t noticed Nightingale’s message earlier.
The email was short—only a few lines.
“Ming Yu, you still haven’t told me how long you’ll be gone this time.”
“But no matter how long you’re away, I’ll wait for you at home.”
“When you come back… there’s something I want to tell you.”
Nightingale had something she wanted to say…
What could it be…?
After reading it, Ming Yu turned off the holographic screen.
She stared blankly at the restless sea horizon.
She couldn’t guess.
But she didn’t want to dwell on it.
She quickly pushed the thought aside—
Compared to that, the trouble at hand was far more important.
The massive swarm was still advancing slowly.
At some unknown moment, the raging sea winds suddenly ceased.
The sound of the waves faded into silence.
It was as if the entire sea held its breath, afraid of disturbing some terrifying existence.
The atmosphere froze to its limit.
The calm before the storm would not last long.
Ming Yu let out a breath.
Her right hand rested on the hilt of her blade as her slender fingers slowly tightened.
Buzz—
In an instant, a world-shaking roar erupted.
A terrifying mechanical wave surged outward at over three hundred meters per second.
Like an invisible giant hand, it swept aside the thick clouds covering the sky, exposing the blazing sun above.
Blinding rays pierced through the clouds, scattering shimmering silver reflections across the turbulent sea.
This deep, prolonged whale call lasted for nearly half a minute.
Even with energy shields equipped, some ordinary crew members widened their eyes as dark blood seeped from their orifices.
Their bodies went limp as they lost consciousness.
A violent wind followed, making most people tremble uncontrollably.
Many couldn’t help but shake in fear.
It was like being used to storms within the safety of a city—
Only to suddenly stand in the open wilderness before a towering tornado.
This was… a legendary behemoth.
Beneath the sea’s surface, an enormous shadow rose.
Its vast body revealed only a fraction of itself, yet it was already beyond comprehension.
A massive column of water shot into the sky, the cascading spray resembling artificial rainfall.
The rushing wind carried droplets that dampened Ming Yu’s lowered lashes.
Through the earpiece, Seti’s voice remained calm and steady as he issued commands.
“Spread out.”
“Frontline units focus on resistance. Hold the enemy’s advance.”
“Left flank, led by Jiang Chen, circle around and look for opportunities to strike the enemy’s rear.”
“Leave space on the right flank for retreat. Watch for scattered high-tier sea beasts attempting to break through.”
“To all of you—may fortune favor you in battle!”
“To all of you—may fortune favor you in battle!”
****
Star Ring Base Alpha, Satellite Monitoring Room.
The sound of a porcelain cup shattering echoed through the room.
Coffee spilled across the floor, still steaming.
Chris stared fixedly at the satellite feed on the screen.
His voice trembled slightly as he hurriedly contacted the head of the monitoring center, describing what he saw.
Perhaps due to shock, his words came out disjointed and incoherent.
The superior on the other end grew impatient.
“Chris, what exactly are you trying to say? What monster?”
“I—I don’t know how to describe it… I’ve never seen anything like this… this…”
“Enough. I’m currently receiving an important guest. Whatever it is, wait until later—”
The voice paused for a few seconds.
Then suddenly changed tone.
“Wait there. I’m coming immediately. Report any developments at once!”
“Understood.”
After the call ended, Chris kept staring at the creature on the screen.
The sheer scale of it left him shaken.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the communication—
The director of the monitoring center dropped his serious expression and hurried over to the current de facto ruler of the Azure Sea United Nations, speaking with a flattering smile,
“Lord Augur, I’ve already instructed the staff as you requested. Please follow me…”
“Mm.”
Augur nodded and rose from his seat.
Since the coup, his status had undergone a dramatic transformation.
Almost everyone believed he would become the future dictator of this nation.
Except himself.
Augur was currently searching for the “Immortal Leader” indicated by the High Priest.
He was preparing to dispatch forces to land and return to the Old World.
Upon hearing news from the Old World through the communication, he naturally wouldn’t ignore it.
He immediately requested to be taken there.
Entering the monitoring room, Chris had already been waiting.
He quickly vacated his seat for his superior—
Only to see his direct boss respectfully step aside, inviting the elderly man behind him to take the seat instead.
Augur didn’t stand on ceremony.
He sat before the screen and fixed his gaze on the image.
On the vast blue ocean, hundreds of ships surged forward.
Like ants hunting an elephant, they swarmed toward an unimaginably massive creature.
Seeing this, Augur suddenly frowned, as if recalling something.
‘Could this be… an aberration left behind by the Siren civilization in the Old World?’
As he pondered, the image reflected in his eyes.
Within it, a faint silver streak flashed by—almost imperceptible.
His psionic senses sharpened his perception, allowing him to catch that anomaly instantly.
His expression shifted slightly as he turned toward Chris.
“Young man, adjust the image for me. Zoom into that area.”
He pointed toward the sea between the fleet and the monster.
Following his instructions, Chris quickly and carefully made the adjustments.
The image enlarged—
A swift assault boat cut through the waves, charging straight toward the colossal beast.
At its bow, a streak of silver-white fluttered wildly in the wind.
The scene overlapped with a memory in Augur’s mind.
He froze for a moment.
His pupils suddenly contracted.
‘Could it be… that person?’
