As soon as Ye Shengge made the decision to see Zhou Yue, he immediately went to Mu Jinran to ask about Zhou Yue’s dormitory building and room number.
Mu Jinran was a man of his word; without asking a single question, he gave the address to him.
Having secured this information, the heavy weight in Ye Shengge’s heart finally lifted.
However, this unusual behavior also caught Jiang Yan’s attention.
“Why are you asking about that?” Jiang Yan leaned back in his chair bonelessly, propping up his chin and looking at him with a beaming smile.
Ye Shengge still remembered Jiang Yan getting inexplicably angry at him this morning. He shot him a speechless glance and replied fiercely: “Can’t I care about a classmate?”
“You can, of course you can,” Jiang Yan coaxed, smoothing things over.
Seeing the smile return to the youth’s face, a dark glint flashed through the depths of Jiang Yan’s eyes.
There were five dormitory buildings for male students, and the distance between each was very short. Out of concern for a classmate, dropping by for a visit was not an incomprehensible act.
What truly surprised him was that the person deciding to pay a visit was the timid and socially anxious Ye Shengge.
The image of the youth being afraid to contact other students two days ago was still vivid in his mind.
Combining that with the long string of messages in the class group just now, it was impossible not to guess the reason for the youth’s change.
He was simply worried that the student named Zhou Yue would also die.
It seemed the events of this morning had left a deep impression on the youth’s heart.
“That’s more like it.” Ye Shengge, unaware of what Jiang Yan was thinking, nodded with satisfaction and turned to leave in a good mood.
Jiang Yan didn’t stop him. With a smile in his eyes, he watched the youth walk out of the dormitory. Then, he turned his gaze toward Mu Jinran, who was staring out the window in a daze. The smile vanished instantly, replaced by a cold, sharp tone: “I think we need to talk.”
Meanwhile.
Ye Shengge, having left the dorm, had no idea that shortly after his departure, the two “good friends” left behind were on the verge of an all-out war.
He circled the male dormitory buildings for a while before finding the room labeled 604 under the system’s guidance.
Standing at the door, he whispered: [This should be the place, right?]
System: [This is it. Knock.]
Ye Shengge followed the instruction obediently, knocking on the door and waiting patiently in place for it to open.
Fortunately, the person inside didn’t make him wait long. Upon hearing the knock, they immediately ran to open it.
The door swung open to reveal Zhou Yue, who exuded a gloomy aura. Ye Shengge took the initiative to greet him: “Hello.”
Strangely enough, upon seeing clearly who was standing outside the door, the face of Zhou Yue—who wore thick glasses—instantly turned beet red. The eyes hidden behind his overly long hair shimmered slightly, losing all of their previous sullenness.
He looked incredibly excited, wanting to say more to the youth at the door, but his mouth opened and closed for a long time. Eventually, he only managed to stutter out: “H-Hello. May I ask… why are you looking for me?”
“I have some things I want to ask you. Is it convenient for me to come in?” Even seeing his deathly gloomy appearance, Ye Shengge showed no hint of disdain. His exquisitely beautiful face still carried that polite smile from before.
He looked like a little sun radiating light.
Zhou Yue was momentarily dazed by the sight.
It wasn’t until Ye Shengge asked again that he suddenly snapped out of it. He scrambled to step aside and nodded vigorously: “It’s convenient, it’s convenient! No one else wants to live with me, so I’m the only one in the dorm. Please, come in.”
Ye Shengge thanked him and walked into the dormitory that belonged solely to Zhou Yue.
The curtains were drawn tight, and the furnishings were mostly a depressing black; the first impression was one of gloom and oppression. If it weren’t for the various items scattered everywhere, it wouldn’t even seem like anyone lived here.
Zhou Yue keenly noticed his gaze landing on the messy items and rushed over to tidy them up. He then diligently poured a glass of water and handed it to Ye Shengge: “Sorry, the dorm is a bit messy. Would you like some water?”
Ye Shengge felt his cautious, servile attitude was a bit exaggerated, making him feel rather awkward. He spoke up to stop him: “Don’t go to so much trouble. I just wanted to learn about something from you; I’ll be leaving soon.”
As for the glass of water, out of caution, he didn’t take a single sip.
Only then did Zhou Yue settle down. He sat on a chair and asked stutteringly: “What is it?”
Ye Shengge got straight to the point: “I want to ask you—have you done anything bad before?”
As soon as these words were spoken, the hands Zhou Yue had folded in front of him suddenly clenched. His fingertips turned white with pressure as he forced himself to stay calm: “Of course not. Why are you asking that?”
Despite his words, his acting was even less convincing than Ye Shengge’s. Anyone could see the fear and guilt in his heart at a glance.
The system analyzed the result based on Zhou Yue’s reaction: [He is lying.]
Ye Shengge nodded: [I can see that too.]
Sure enough, the clues summarized earlier were correct. All those who died had done bad things. Those targeted by the anonymous person were all guilty people who deserved to die.
From a certain perspective, if the anonymous person’s methods of punishment weren’t so extreme, he could almost be considered a vigilante removing pests for the people.
Thinking this way, Ye Shengge also realized something. When the anonymous person invited him to the woods earlier, he probably just wanted to scare him or take a bit of advantage of him. That’s why he had been so aggrieved and angry when Ye Shengge tried to trick him for information.
But even so, it didn’t change the “shameless” impression the anonymous person had left in Ye Shengge’s mind.
“I haven’t done anything bad,” Zhou Yue stubbornly repeated, interrupting Ye Shengge’s thoughts.
Looking at Zhou Yue’s pigheadedness, Ye Shengge felt incredibly exhausted, even wanting to drop the whole thing and leave.
But the thought that there were still two people waiting for his protection forced him to suppress his delicate temper.
“Whether you’ve done it or not, only you know in your heart,” Ye Shengge pursed his lips and continued: “If I haven’t guessed wrong, the anonymous person only targets those who have done wrong. If you have, the current situation is very unfavorable for you. It’s better to speak out so everyone can help you find a way.”
Hearing these well-reasoned words, Zhou Yue hesitated. But that bit of hesitation quickly vanished, replaced by resolve once more.
“I haven’t done anything wrong.”
He stared at Ye Shengge and reiterated.
Ye Shengge was practically drained of temper.
“Suit yourself. When the anonymous person comes for you, it’ll be too late to regret it.” Saying this, he stood up to leave.
As the saying goes, you can never wake a person who is pretending to be asleep.
Zhou Yue would rather risk death than tell him the truth.
What could he do? He couldn’t exactly hold him down and force him to confess his crimes. It was better to leave; not only would he be out of sight and out of mind, but it might also scare Zhou Yue a little.
However, this didn’t mean Ye Shengge was giving up.
Before deciding to leave, he made a deal with the system to have it help watch Zhou Yue. Once the anonymous person came looking for him, the system was to notify him immediately.
Zhou Yue’s dorm wasn’t far from his own. He believed that as long as the system’s notification was timely, he would be able to see the anonymous person again.
When that happened, he would finally be able to figure out exactly why the anonymous person had started this death red packet game.
