The Wolf King’s Nightfall

Chapter 871,113 words10 min read

After the BOSS let out a guttural howl, it immediately summoned five ordinary wolf monsters. To the party’s surprise, a collective sigh of relief swept through them.

While these common wolf monsters were numerous and their combined attack power surpassed that of two elite monsters, they possessed one significant drawback: their speed.

Their swiftness was only marginally greater than Divine Wind’s. This meant that Divine Wind, relying on his superior technique, could effortlessly keep the slightly faster wolf monsters circling around him.

Having quickly assessed the situation, Lin Shenyue promptly commanded, “Divine Wind, gather all the smaller monsters. Dark Demon, assist him in eliminating them as swiftly as possible.”

The BOSS’s initial ability was easily dealt with, yet Lin Shenyue understood this was merely the prelude. According to her analysis, the true challenge lay in the ‘night’ skill.

Soon, the BOSS’s health plummeted by another ten percent. This time, however, the BOSS did not unleash a skill. Instead, it shed its aggro and charged directly at Lin Shenyue with incredible speed.

Lin Shenyue frowned slightly. As Divine Wind and Dark Demon were constantly engaged in slaying the smaller monsters, Lin Shenyue, who had been consistently healing Ye Jue, had accumulated a comparatively high amount of aggro.

Moreover, the BOSS’s advanced AI allowed it to discern Lin Shenyue’s crucial role within the team, leading it to target her directly.

To mitigate the impending pain, Lin Shenyue instantly cast a Sanctuary spell on herself, simultaneously declaring, “Divine Wind, increase your damage output! Dark Demon, be careful with your attacks! Peerless Karma Fire, charge in and reclaim aggro as quickly as possible!”

The Wolf King’s strike slammed into the barrier, causing it to ripple violently and lose more than half its durability instantly. To Lin Shenyue’s dismay, after that single attack, the Wolf King immediately unleashed another skill right in front of her.

Upon witnessing the Wolf King initiate its skill, Lin Shenyue’s delicate brows furrowed. She had no knowledge of this particular ability.

If it proved to be a crowd-control skill, she risked being instantly killed while immobilized. After a fleeting moment of consideration, Lin Shenyue decided against using her invincibility skill, opting instead to cast a healing spell on herself.

Fortunately, despite activating a skill, the Wolf King’s attack was an area-of-effect ability. As the Wolf King howled, a multitude of wind blades materialized around its body, scattering in all directions.

Lin Shenyue hastily activated the speed boost on her ring and retreated. She was quite lucky; in her retreat, she was only struck by two wind blades, which merely shattered her barrier without inflicting any other damage.

Dark Demon, having sensed danger, had already moved away from the BOSS. Only Ye Jue was left, forced to grit his teeth and activate Charge, plunging directly into the storm of wind blades.

He knew that if he didn’t seize this opportunity to regain aggro, the BOSS would continue to target Lin Shenyue. He also understood that this attack would, at most, severely wound him, but killing him would be challenging.

The BOSS’s skill was primarily designed to disrupt the players’ rhythm and create significant chaos by charging into the backline to unleash its abilities. Fortunately, Lin Shenyue possessed a speed-boosting skill; otherwise, she would have sustained at least four or more attacks, making her chances of instant death remarkably high.

Watching Ye Jue charge in, Lin Shenyue understood he was preventing the BOSS from resuming its pursuit of her once the skill ended. While she knew this wasn’t the optimal course of action, she was profoundly touched by his sacrifice.

Composing herself, she instructed, “Dark Demon, Divine Wind, prepare to attack.”

Due to being attacked at close range while casting its skill, the BOSS’s aggro towards Ye Jue surged rapidly. Consequently, after unleashing its ability, it instantly spun around and lashed out at Ye Jue with a claw.

However, this particular claw strike immediately triggered a bleeding status effect. [Ding! Your teammate, ‘Peerless Karma Fire,’ has been struck by the BOSS’s claw, triggering a bleeding status effect. They will lose 200 health per second for 10 seconds.]

Lin Shenyue froze upon hearing the notification, only reacting a second later to cast a Purify and a Heal spell on Ye Jue. By then, Ye Jue had already lost 200 health, instantly dropping to critical condition.

Dark Demon, through this incident, realized that Lin Shenyue’s on-the-spot reactions were somewhat lacking. A more skilled healer would have purified the status effect before the first tick of damage.

Yet, despite her excellent performance earlier, Lin Shenyue had failed to cleanse the negative status promptly. He now saw that her reaction speed was indeed slow, implying that her every action was based on pre-emptive judgment.

This realization instilled a sense of dread in Dark Demon. Yes, dread. He had never encountered anyone with such an ability. In that very instant, the thought of joining this team took root in his mind.

Lin Shenyue, of course, was oblivious to Dark Demon’s thoughts. Immediately after casting Heal, she unleashed a Group Heal, instantly restoring everyone’s health to full.

Although this put the skill on a five-minute cooldown, it instantly brought everyone to safety, and five minutes was ample time before the BOSS’s next ability.

The party safely navigated the Wolf King’s 70% and 60% health phases, during which the Wolf King summoned more monsters and launched another area-of-effect attack respectively. As none of them were weak, they passed through these challenges with relative ease.

When the Wolf King’s health reached 50%, Ye Jue’s expression grew solemn. This was typically when the Wolf King would activate its night-creating skill, simultaneously entering an invisible state with double movement speed.

It was worth noting that if the game’s environment itself entered night, the Wolf King would remain invisible indefinitely, with its speed doubled.

Lin Shenyue noticed Ye Jue’s grave expression, realizing this was likely the BOSS’s night-creating skill. Therefore, she warned in advance, “Everyone, prepare for the BOSS’s skill.”

With a furious howl from the BOSS, their surroundings plunged into instant darkness. However, they could still discern the scenery around them.

Yet, the BOSS itself vanished, leaving Lin Shenyue stunned. After quickly calculating the possibilities, Lin Shenyue had no choice but to activate Group Barrier.

The unpredictability of this BOSS phase was extreme. If she reacted quickly, she could heal someone the instant they were attacked, preventing casualties. However, her reaction speed was genuinely slow, and relying solely on pre-judgment wouldn’t be enough to evade this skill. Thus, she activated this life-saving ability.

With the Group Barrier skill active, everyone safely weathered this period. However, Lin Shenyue found herself completely out of mana, and the next crisis was rapidly approaching.
