The Night Wolf King’s Ferocious Howl

Chapter 88 • 1,382 words • 12 min read

As Lin Shenyue’s mana ran dry, Ye Jue had no choice but to consume potions and simultaneously began evading the BOSS’s attacks.

Previously, he hadn’t dodged because the BOSS was incredibly fast, making evasion a futile effort.

Now, however, he was forced to try his best to avoid the BOSS’s assaults, or his health bar would surely plummet beyond recovery.

Lin Shenyue, meanwhile, focused on mana management. She always needed at least 300 mana to handle any sudden emergencies.

Thus, during this period, she could only occasionally cast a healing spell on Ye Jue to alleviate some of his pressure. Lin Shenyue knew full well that Ye Jue could enter a special domain mode. His current reluctance to use it indicated that he hadn’t yet reached his limits.

Unbeknownst to Lin Shenyue, Ye Jue was indeed far from his breaking point.

As his level increased and more skills became available, a wider array of techniques could be employed. With years of experience, he could solo this BOSS, though the time taken would be considerable, and the mental exertion immense.

For instance, after blocking a BOSS attack, he would use the rapid movement of a Charge skill to immediately evade the BOSS’s next strike, all while using his shield to nullify some of the incoming damage.

This flawless utilization of every skill to dodge damage truly impressed everyone present.

Lin Shenyue pondered this technique, but lacking such skills herself, she could only muse for a moment before dismissing the thought.

As the BOSS’s health dropped to 40%, Lin Shenyue’s careful mana conservation finally allowed her reserves to recover to one-fifth, sufficient to weather this impending crisis.

When Ye Jue saw the BOSS’s throat subtly move, he instantly knew which troublesome skill was coming. Each time the BOSS unleashed a skill other than a summon, it would enter a state of aggro confusion.

Fortunately, Lin Shenyue’s mana control had kept her aggro low, allowing Divine Wind and Dark Demon to surpass her. This meant that even if the BOSS’s aggro became chaotic, the probability of it targeting Lin Shenyue would be relatively low.

However, it was only *relatively* low, not impossible.

The BOSS suddenly flashed away from Ye Jue, letting out a long, mournful howl directed at the sky.

“Owoo…”

“Ding! You have been affected by the Night Wolf King’s skill, ‘Fearful Howl.’ You are terrified for 3 seconds.”

Lin Shenyue froze, her body uncontrollably scurrying in random directions. Her mind raced, trying to formulate a plan.

Within three seconds, the BOSS could strike Ye Jue at least three times, given his close proximity. It could also attack Dark Demon two and a half times—the half implying that if Dark Demon reacted quickly enough, the last attack might be evaded.

The BOSS might also target Divine Wind and her, but due to the time it would take to reposition, it would likely only manage two attacks. Given the BOSS’s high AI, its target would most likely be Dark Demon.

If she could see Dark Demon, she could heal him the moment the fear wore off. If she couldn’t see him, by the time she turned around, located him, and reacted to cast a heal, it would likely be too late.

“Dark Demon, be careful. There’s a 90% chance the BOSS will target you. If I can’t see you, I might not be able to heal you immediately,” Lin Shenyue announced directly in the party chat.

“Don’t worry,” Dark Demon replied, his expression unfazed. Although she hadn’t played a significant role in this BOSS raid, it didn’t mean Dark Demon lacked pride. If he couldn’t handle such a minor setback, how could he hope to join their team?

As expected, the BOSS indeed chose Dark Demon. In the BOSS’s AI, targeting Dark Demon at this moment would maximize the damage inflicted upon the group.

“-330” “-328”

After deducting Dark Demon’s defense, the BOSS dealt massive damage, instantly reducing Dark Demon’s health to a mere dozen points. At such a precarious health level, another hit would surely lead to his defeat.

At the same time, Lin Shenyue frustratingly realized she was running in the opposite direction, making it impossible to pinpoint Dark Demon’s location.

Dark Demon, currently with his back to the BOSS, maintained an unchanging expression, though his muscles tensed throughout his body. The instant the fear broke, he bent his body and moved his feet, dodging the BOSS’s attack with incredible agility.

He didn’t forget to execute a Throat Slit, striking the Night Wolf King as it lunged past him.

“-343”

Due to the Night Wolf King’s extreme speed, Dark Demon rarely used this skill, as the chance of failure was high. But now, with him evading the BOSS’s charge, the BOSS overshot, making the skill’s hit rate naturally much higher.

Lin Shenyue quickly turned, and after spotting Dark Demon’s position, she cast a Healing Spell. Thanks to her healing bonus, nearly 700 health was instantly restored, completely filling Dark Demon’s health bar.

After the fear effect ended, Ye Jue immediately charged towards where the Wolf King landed, following up with a basic attack and a Furious Slash, dealing around 150 damage.

Such damage was insufficient for him to regain aggro, so the others temporarily ceased their attacks. Even Lin Shenyue stopped healing, as healing also increased aggro. During this aggro reset period, it was best to let Ye Jue stabilize the aggro first.

Once aggro was firmly established, everyone resumed their assault on the BOSS. The BOSS’s health dropping to 30% and then 20% only resulted in it summoning a few small minions and two elite monsters, which the party easily dispatched.

What caused Lin Shenyue to frown was that the BOSS didn’t unleash any skills at 10% health. This implied that the BOSS would launch a particularly ferocious counterattack before its death.

As the BOSS’s health continued to decline, a heavy feeling settled in everyone’s hearts. Finally, at 2% health, the BOSS went berserk, its attack power and speed doubling, while its defense was halved.

However, the BOSS’s original attack power and speed were already terrifying. With them doubled, a single blow instantly depleted half of Ye Jue’s health. Due to the BOSS’s sheer speed, Ye Jue found it impossible to block its attacks.

Even a skill block required the player’s shield to directly intercept the target, which was now impossible.

Lin Shenyue immediately cast a Healing Spell and began preparing Holy Light’s Blessing. Because of the BOSS’s extreme speed, the other players’ attacks also struggled to connect, causing the BOSS’s health to decrease at a painfully slow rate.

“-776” “Holy Light’s Blessing” “-98”

Holy Light’s Blessing couldn’t even withstand a single BOSS attack and shattered, though it still absorbed most of the damage. Simultaneously, Lin Shenyue delivered another heal.

“+204” “-783”

Ye Jue’s brow furrowed. It seemed tackling this BOSS at their current stage was still quite challenging. The BOSS still had 1500 health, which might not seem like much, but with the party’s attacks frequently missing, it would take at least another 10 seconds to kill it. Ten seconds was more than enough time for Ye Jue to die three times over.

Lin Shenyue also made a quick calculation, then said with some helplessness, “Forget it, Peerless Karma Fire. The test ends here. Finish it quickly.”

Ye Jue nodded, activating his domain mode under Dark Demon’s astonished gaze. In this mode, Ye Jue didn’t even need to use blocking skills, effortlessly dodging every single BOSS attack.

As one “Evade” after another flashed above Ye Jue’s head, Dark Demon finally went numb. He had to admit that everyone in this team was monstrous, especially since Divine Wind had only displayed a fraction of their true capabilities. It wasn’t that Divine Wind was unwilling to go all out, but rather that this BOSS raid was intended to showcase the team’s collective strength to Dark Demon.

Because Ye Jue’s domain mode effectively pinned the BOSS in place, the party easily defeated it.

“Ding! Congratulations on killing the BOSS ‘Night Wolf King’! You have gained 390,000 (330,000) experience.”

Ye Jue let out a long breath, exiting his domain mode. Although it had only been active for a few seconds, the mental strain on him was immense. He looked at Lin Shenyue and smiled, “The usual. You loot the corpse.”

Lin Shenyue nodded and walked towards the BOSS.
