Chris’s Request

Chapter 971,028 words9 min read

On the way to Chris’s home, Lin Shenyue asked, “Do you know Lord Dorag?”

Chris nodded. “Yes, I do, but I can’t tell you about it yet. When the time is right, you’ll naturally find out.” Lord Dorag held a high position within the Divine Realm, and at their current stage, players had no way of encountering someone of his stature.

Lin Shenyue nodded. “Alright then.”

Chris pondered for a moment. “Oh, by the way, Sister Yue’er, could I trouble you with something?”

Lin Shenyue smiled faintly. “Of course you can.”

Chris frowned. “My father once left me a weapon, intending for me to retrieve it once my strength reached a certain level. But now, I can’t wait any longer; only by obtaining it swiftly can I wield it effectively. Since my current power is insufficient, I was hoping Sister Yue’er could assist me.”

Lin Shenyue paused, slightly startled, then checked Chris’s attributes.

Chris (???): Level: 15. HP: 30000/30000. Physical Attack: 500-540.

Skills: Devour Heaven and Earth (Unawakened), Judgment Holy Sword (Unawakened), Undying Holy Body (Unawakened)… Charge, Block, Furious Slash, Sweep, Taunt, Heavy Strike, Armor Shatter (these are Level 15 Shield Warrior skills), Combo, Bloodlust, Earth-Shattering Slash, Berserk (these are Level 15 Berserker skills), Guard (Charge), Healing Spell (Knights unlock this skill at Level 15, with extremely high initial values), Judgment.

Lin Shenyue felt a little bewildered. Just a few hours ago, Chris had been an NPC who knew nothing. Yet, in merely eight hours, her level had soared to 15, far surpassing her own.

Moreover, the sheer number of skills Chris possessed was simply insane.

Seeing Lin Shenyue’s stunned expression, Chris calmly explained, “We NPCs progress very quickly in the early stages. However, unlike you, each of our advancements is more challenging, and my quick mastery of these basic skills is also related to my foundation.

“Later on, when learning more advanced skills, our mastery speed will be far inferior to yours.”

What Chris didn’t mention was that she belonged to a type with exceptionally high talent, which was why she could reach this level in such a short time. Low-talent NPCs would take at least several months to reach such a stage, and those with no talent couldn’t even dream of becoming a warrior.

Players, on the other hand, differed. As long as they entered the game, they possessed the potential to reach the pinnacle of any profession.

Lin Shenyue nodded. The reason she could see Chris’s full attributes was because Chris had no secrets from her. Otherwise, she wouldn’t even have been able to detect Chris’s HP, let alone her extensive array of skills.

“How can I help you?” Lin Shenyue asked, her curiosity piqued.

Chris pondered for a moment. “The item was sealed by my father in a hidden treasure cave. He also placed some monsters above Level 25 there as a trial. Although I can challenge enemies beyond my level, a ten-level gap is still too much.

“Therefore, I hope you can accompany me.”

“Why don’t you ask someone else to go with you?” Lin Shenyue inquired.

Chris replied helplessly, “My father’s trial was intended for me alone; naturally, he wouldn’t want anyone else to go. So, none of us native residents, except for me, can enter. But you are different. You Anomalies can form teams. As long as you invite me into your party, we can enter together.”

Lin Shenyue was slightly surprised. “We can invite you into our team?”

Chris nodded. “Yes, but only those with a favorability exceeding 80 can join.”

“What’s your favorability rating then?” Lin Shenyue asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

Chris’s small face flushed, and she hesitated. “93.” While NPC favorability couldn’t be directly seen, if it was high, the NPC would reveal it when asked.

Lin Shenyue was somewhat taken aback. This value was already incredibly high; exceeding 90 meant the NPC regarded you as family. If favorability reached 100, it signified a bond of life and death, though players couldn’t truly die.

Such a high favorability meant that even if you asked the NPC to do something dangerous, they would comply without a hint of hesitation. Of course, Lin Shenyue didn’t know these nuances; she only knew that the number was remarkably high.

Lin Shenyue collected herself. “Alright then, where is this place?”

Chris replied, “It’s in a cave about five kilometers outside the North Gate.”

After sending Chris a party invitation, Lin Shenyue asked, “How did it end up there?”

[Ding! Chris has accepted the invitation and joined the party.]

Chris fell silent for a moment. “That place is where my father and mother first met.”

Noticing the sadness in Chris’s demeanor, Lin Shenyue felt a touch of awkwardness. “I’m sorry, I brought up your painful memories again.”

Chris composed herself and smiled. “It’s alright. Besides…” You are my family. Chris didn’t voice the rest of her thought, but Lin Shenyue had more or less guessed it. However, Lin Shenyue was not one to easily express her emotions, so she simply kept it in her heart.

Chris let out a long breath. Though speaking those words caused her pain, she felt much lighter afterward. This was precisely why Chris had such a high favorability towards Lin Shenyue. As for why it wasn’t Ye Jue, it could only be said that when feeling insecure, Chris preferred a sister over a brother.

“Shall we depart then?” Chris asked.

Lin Shenyue nodded, simultaneously receiving a system message.

[Ding! Do you accept the quest ‘Chris’s Request’?] “Yes.”

Lin Shenyue followed Chris outside the North Gate. Chris frowned at the dense swarm of skeleton warriors before them, a flash of hatred in her eyes.

Upon seeing this, Lin Shenyue offered comfort. “These are merely lifeless things. The true enemy we seek is the person behind them.”

Chris took a deep breath, calming herself. “Sister Yue’er is right. Let’s go.” Although Chris decided to ignore the skeleton warriors, she still charged straight through them in a direct line.

With her incredibly high attack power and diverse skills, she led Lin Shenyue to their destination in just 30 minutes.

Staring at the cave entrance, Chris took a deep breath. “Let’s go in.”

Lin Shenyue nodded and followed Chris into the cave.
