“Please have a seat first.”
“I’ll slowly explain everything to you.”
“Alright, Big Sister Nurse.”
Chen Zeyu smiled sweetly, settling back onto the chair.
“Please, Sister Nurse, do tell us everything.”
“It’s truly important to us!”
Evetti patted her skirt, then gracefully lowered herself into a seat.
“I’ll tell you everything I know, my two lovely little ones.”
Jiang Ting paused, mentally organizing the information she had about Yang Liying, making sure she understood the full sequence of events before she began.
“Yang Liying first came to the hospital about half a year ago.”
“Dr. Fang, head of the psychiatric department, was her attending physician at the time.”
“According to him, Yang Liying already exhibited severe suicidal depression, and her body bore numerous bruises from bumps and scrapes.”
“Yet, astonishingly, these injuries weren’t caused by external violence; she had inflicted them upon herself!”
“What? She did it herself?”
Chen Zeyu couldn’t comprehend it.
Yang Liying was a campus beauty; surely her injuries weren’t from people Sun Baihai hired?
“Later, Dr. Fang was halfway through his diagnosis when a man claiming to be Yang Liying’s uncle arrived.”
“He hastily took Yang Liying away, insisting that all her injuries were self-inflicted at home, with no external intervention.”
“How could that possibly be true?”
Jiang Ting frowned, her expression filled with indignation.
“Did you call the police?” Chen Zeyu quickly pressed.
“Of course, we called the police!”
“How could we stand by when a student was suffering such abuse?”
“But the outcome was disheartening; it seemed as though some unseen force obstructed the investigation.”
“Yang Liying’s injuries were ultimately ruled as self-inflicted, alas!”
“Did no one investigate the people around Yang Liying?”
“What about her parents? Did they not care?”
Evetti rose, asking in bewilderment.
“Yang Liying’s parents work long hours out of town and barely oversee their daughter, merely sending living expenses on time.”
“Later, when we interviewed those around Yang Liying, they all said she was a very strong-willed child, accustomed to hardship since she was young.”
Jiang Ting added.
“Does any of this have to do with Sun Baihai?”
Chen Zeyu realized the nurse hadn’t yet mentioned the crucial figure of Sun Baihai.
“It does!”
“Yang Liying’s second visit to the hospital was just two months ago!”
“That time, she was accompanied by a yellow-haired hooligan, who claimed to be her boyfriend!”
“He received a phone call halfway through her psychiatric examination and simply ran off, abandoning Yang Liying alone in the waiting room!”
“He was utterly despicable!”
“Later, I asked Dr. Fang, and he actually knew the hooligan’s background.”
“It turned out to be Sun Baihai, the mayor’s eldest grandson.”
The mayor’s grandson?
Chen Zeyu suddenly understood why Feng Yan had warned her.
Sun Baihai truly had powerful connections, which explained how he managed to suppress so much of the truth.
“Furthermore, once we learned Sun Baihai’s identity, I discreetly had someone investigate his connections.”
“I discovered that Yang Liying was frequently harassed by Sun Baihai at school.”
“His methods ranged from blocking the school entrance to isolating and threatening her with notes.”
“He truly isn’t human!”
“Didn’t anyone report him?”
Evetti was quite perplexed, finding it hard to believe that with such extensive trouble, no one had offered help.
“Yang Liying lived alone and had a somewhat aloof personality.”
“Everyone around her had been brought under Sun Baihai’s influence.”
“Sun Baihai was practically the warlord of the school!”
“It’s almost laughable how he always managed to keep his harm just below the threshold of illegality, like slowly carving away Yang Liying’s inner defenses until she finally broke down on her own.”
Jiang Ting largely summarized Sun Baihai’s tactics.
Since she wasn’t Yang Liying, she couldn’t personally experience that feeling.
“Thank you, Sister Nurse. We understand the situation now.”
Evetti silently noted Sun Baihai’s methods, realizing Chen Zeyu might soon face similar challenges.
“What will happen to Yang Liying afterward?”
Chen Zeyu looked at the illuminated light above the emergency room, sensing this rescue might be precarious.
“I don’t know.”
“What a tragic girl.”
“Her prime years were utterly wasted.”
“I imagine she didn’t dare tell her parents, who work far away, about being forced to drop out.”
Jiang Ting shook her head, lamenting Yang Liying’s lost youth.
‘Hmm…’
Chen Zeyu gazed at the closed doors of the emergency room.
She felt as though she saw a shadow within, the reflection of her own once-obscure self living in a rented room.
‘Regardless of whether she or I was the campus beauty, such unfair and dark deeds must be exposed!’
‘Sun Baihai, you think you’re protected, don’t you?’
‘Tomorrow, I’ll make sure you suffer!’
Chen Zeyu quietly clenched her fists, an involuntary surge of power, fueled by her emotions, radiating from within.
“I still need to be on duty at the entrance.”
“Are you two little ones going to stay with her here?”
Jiang Ting asked, twisting her slightly sore neck.
“Yes, we won’t be leaving for now.” Evetti replied.
“Alright, remember to notify her family, preferably the closest ones who are willing to lend money.”
“I’ll pay for her.”
Chen Zeyu suddenly stood up and declared.
Jiang Ting looked at the diminutive Chen Zeyu; her expression was surprisingly resolute.
Jiang Ting couldn’t help but smile, then turned and left without further questions.
“You truly have a kind heart, always seeing things through.”
Evetti gently tapped Chen Zeyu’s shoulder.
“When Yang Liying wakes up, I can ask her for the specifics.”
“Consider it payment for information.”
“Did you forget what the nurse said earlier?”
“Yang Liying’s mental state isn’t stable right now. Asking her might not yield results.”
Evetti analyzed.
“Tsk… I suppose you’re right.”
“If only I could know the full story completely. A real simulation would be best.”
Chen Zeyu wished she could experience Yang Liying’s ordeal firsthand, believing it would make her more effective against Sun Baihai.
“A real simulation, you say… I have a way.” Evetti stated calmly.
“Really? Tell me quickly!”
Chen Zeyu swiftly turned to face Evetti.
“Don’t move.”
Evetti raised her hands, cupping Chen Zeyu’s cheeks as if holding a balloon.
“Whoa!”
Before Chen Zeyu could react, Evetti’s pupils glowed with a faint violet light, and she leaned in closer.
‘Whoa! She isn’t going to kiss me in this public place, is she? How embarrassing!’
However, Chen Zeyu had simply overthought it.
As she closed her eyes, she felt a touch on her forehead, and soft bangs brushed against her skin.
‘Huh? Why isn’t she kissing me yet?’
Chen Zeyu squinted open an eye, finding Evetti’s face very close.
Those star-like, shimmering violet eyes showed no emotional fluctuation, like those of an impassive machine.
‘What’s with the forehead-to-forehead touch? Is she trying to increase our intimacy score?’
Just as Chen Zeyu was about to voice her complaint, her vision suddenly blurred and swirled, as hazy images flashed rapidly before her eyes.
The village of her childhood, her first encounter with games, the scene where Evetti gave her medicine…
Chen Zeyu felt as though she had experienced a rapid montage of her life.
Only when Evetti voluntarily retreated did she fully regain her senses.
“What did you do?”
Chen Zeyu shook her head, feeling as if her memories had been emptied and then refilled.
“I read some of your superficial memories. Just basic mind magic.”
Evetti’s expression remained indifferent, seemingly unconcerned by the memories she had just witnessed.
“You read my memories!”
Chen Zeyu clutched her head, looking flustered and fearful that Evetti had glimpsed some highly important secret.
“This was a guide for you to use mind magic.”
“If you don’t experience being read, how will you read other people’s mental memories?”
Evetti retorted, raising an eyebrow.
“This… I feel completely exposed.”
Chen Zeyu’s cheeks flushed slightly.
“Do you think you’re so beautiful?”
“You’re not even my template; I know every inch of you.”
“Once Yang Liying recovers, you can read her mind, and I’ll keep her emotions stable.”
Evetti said dismissively, crossing her arms.
“Alright.”
Chen Zeyu now realized that anything she tried to hide from Evetti was futile; it was simply that Evetti wasn’t interested in knowing it for the moment.
