The Last Dawn of Villains (Part 2)

Chapter 541,334 words12 min read

The white sedan sped into the tunnel, its driver refusing to touch the brakes, even where caution demanded.

How did Chen Yuqing know he had fled, and even that police cars were blocking the highway entrance?

Sun Baihai simply couldn’t fathom the extent of Chen Yuqing’s intelligence network.

Was it possible she could access any information in the world at will?

Just as Sun Baihai was lost in thought, the car swerved violently to avoid oncoming traffic.

Screech!

Tires left long, searing marks on the asphalt as the sedan regained stability, then accelerated fiercely out of the tunnel.

“Damn it! What just happened?”

Sun Baihai swore, his head having slammed against the window.

The pain was almost unbearable.

“Young Master Sun! The next exit is a remote tollbooth!”

“There aren’t any police cars here!”

His subordinate exclaimed, overjoyed.

This meant Chen Yuqing’s threatening call had been a bluff.

“To hell with Chen Yuqing!”

“She only knows how to scare me!”

“Once I’m out of the country, I’ll hire someone to kill her!”

Sun Baihai roared.

He no longer needed to fight to the death; with his grandfather’s funds, he could escape abroad and rise again!

However, as the white sedan descended a slope, several police cars, conspicuous in their black and white, slowly approached, encircling the tollbooth exit.

“Police cars!” the subordinate shrieked, wrenching the wheel sharply.

He nearly collided with the vehicle trailing them.

“Drive faster!” Sun Baihai struggled to sit upright, already seeing the police cars entering the tollbooth behind them.

Wailing sirens filled the air as several police cruisers chased the white sedan, biting at its heels.

“Just a little more!”

The subordinate stomped on the accelerator, gambling on a high-speed maneuver against traffic.

Such an act, if it resulted in a collision, would undoubtedly be fatal!

Sweat poured from Sun Baihai’s body, his eyes wide as he stared at the oncoming lane, terrified that a large vehicle unable to swerve would appear, ending his life directly on the highway.

The police did not pursue recklessly.

Instead, they coordinated with traffic authorities to issue warnings to drivers on the highway and set up warning banners in the distance to encircle the area.

The entrances and exits between the two tollbooths were closed.

The traffic on Sun Baihai’s stretch of highway thinned, and even when they sped back into the tunnel, no cars approached from the opposite direction.

“Young Master Sun, we have to abandon the car midway and flee on foot!”

The subordinate had already determined their next escape route.

A vast mountain forest bordered the highway, offering a chance at survival if they could reach it.

“It’s too high here! How can we get down from this overpass?” Sun Baihai vehemently disagreed.

He had observed the surrounding environment before entering the tunnel; jumping from the elevated highway would be nothing short of suicide!

“Then we’ll have to gamble on the car’s resistance to impact!”

“As long as the deformation isn’t too severe, we can still run!”

The subordinate planned to rely on the car’s structural integrity.

“Damn it! Don’t you dare gamble us to death!”

Sun Baihai cursed furiously, almost lunging for the steering wheel, when a blinding light erupted from the tunnel entrance.

Horn blared!—

A deafening horn blared from a large truck!

There was no way for the driver to slow down in time!

Sun Baihai and his subordinates stared, eyes wide with terror.

They had no time to dodge!

Boom!

The white sedan collided with the large truck at the tunnel entrance.

The car, completely deformed by the impact, was violently ‘squeezed’ out of the tunnel due to its high speed.

It struck the guardrail, launched into the air, and then plummeted directly from the highway.

Crash!

The white sedan caught fire and tumbled several times through the mountain forest.

No cries of agony emerged from its charred, mangled wreckage; only blood-red drops from the shattered windows seeped into the verdant undergrowth.

The conspicuous collision and flames attracted a circling helicopter.

A rescue hoist descended, and several well-equipped police officers rappelled down, arriving at the burning scrap metal to examine the scene.

The scorched windows were twisted, and two indistinct figures lay motionless within.

A pool of blood on the ground trailed down the mountainside, a clear sign that someone had attempted to flee.

“Everyone, follow me!”

The police officers, carrying their gear, rushed down the mountain.

Meanwhile, the surviving Sun Baihai had already heard the commotion.

Sun Baihai was aching and exhausted.

His once-dyed yellow hair was mostly singed and stuck to his scalp, one arm was covered in blood, and his clothes reeked of burnt gasoline.

If not for the primal instinct to survive, Sun Baihai would have burned to death in the car.

He refused to die like this, always hoping to escape this ordeal.

‘I was wrong. I shouldn’t have provoked Chen Yuqing.’

‘I confess to all my crimes. I want to live.’

Sun Baihai felt his body growing sluggish.

That vague sense of impending death had become a tangible reality.

Memories flashed before his eyes in a rapid succession, like a dying man’s final moments.

Scenes of him humiliating others, others kneeling and begging him for mercy, his unchecked power and lawlessness, and others suffering and taking their own lives — all these memories revisited Sun Baihai in his final moments.

‘Damn it, my body hurts terribly.’

Sun Baihai could still hear.

The rustling of footsteps on grass grew louder; it must be the police.

“Suspect found!”

‘Even now, they’re still thinking of surrounding me. I’m dying, aren’t I?’

Sun Baihai leaned against a small tree, his legs giving way beneath him, sending his entire body tumbling.

He felt a stinging sensation on his face but saw no point in struggling.

Through the verdant foliage, he saw many things, yet none offered a path to survival.

It was as if hands emerged from the darkness, closing Sun Baihai’s unwilling eyes.

His soul seemed destined to plunge into an abyss of eternal damnation.

‘I don’t want to die!’

‘I don’t want to die!’

‘I don’t want to die!’

Sun Baihai whimpered for salvation, but no one would save him, nor did he possess any value worthy of rescue.

Sun Baihai’s eyes ceased their movement, and his heart followed suit.

At Gucheng Kangda Hospital.

Yang Liying watched Sun Baihai on the screen, her body shaking with incessant sobs that dampened the bedsheets.

“Finally,” she wept.

Tei Lai stood silently beside her, quietly extending a magical barrier to provide Yang Liying a private space to grieve and find solace in her revenge.

A wounded soul needed time to heal, and the source of her torment had finally been removed.

Inside Witch Company.

Chen Zeyu cradled her hands, as the spirits she had communicated with, numbering over a dozen, watched the live broadcast provided by the Witch Company.

Sun Baihai had died before their very eyes, and they could finally release their grievances and find peace.

“Thank you,” a simple phrase uttered by a dozen souls as they dissolved into pure white particles, ascending towards the cycle of reincarnation.

“This is enough. It’s finally over.”

Chen Zeyu closed her eyes and leaned back, her shoulders gently embraced by a small hand.

“You’ve worked hard, Chen Zeyu,” Evetti whispered softly.

Chen Zeyu was too exhausted to respond, quickly falling into a deep sleep, her dark eye circles a testament to her efforts.

For an entire week, Chen Zeyu had worked tirelessly, gaining the trust and information from each vengeful spirit.

Tei Lai then used this intelligence to gather evidence.

The video compiling Sun Baihai’s criminal acts was sent to countless Dawn’s Prayer players, drawing significant attention from the police and sparking a massive public outcry.

‘You truly push yourself to the brink, yet I could have helped you.’

Evetti thought, gazing at Chen Zeyu’s face.

A sudden pang of sympathy struck her.

‘Rest well for now.’
