The car pulled up at home.
After calming down, Lin Zihao now felt very regretful.
He shouldn’t have hit Cai Xiaowei.
No matter how angry he was, he shouldn’t have hit a girl.
And she was, after all, his sister.
“I’m sorry.
I lost my temper back there.
Is your face okay?”
Lin Zihao’s voice sounded a bit unnatural.
“I’m fine.
You were right.
This is Longyan City now, not Jinling.”
Cai Xiaowei had thought about it the whole way.
Since he had decided to turn over a new leaf and start fresh, he shouldn’t be as impulsive as before.
Maybe he should just live like an ordinary girl.
Seeing that Cai Xiaowei still had her head lowered, Lin Zihao sensed something was wrong.
He suddenly reached out with one hand, lifted her chin by it, and turned her face toward him.
When he saw Cai Xiaowei’s face, Lin Zihao panicked.
Cai Xiaowei’s cheek was swollen and red.
There was still a trace of blood at the corner of her mouth.
Her face was covered in tears.
“I’m… I’m so sorry.
I didn’t know I hit you that hard.”
Lin Zihao frantically held Cai Xiaowei’s face to examine the injury.
Cai Xiaowei gently pushed Lin Zihao’s hands away, wiped her tears, and said flatly, “It’s not your fault.
This was mostly from those thugs.”
Lin Zihao felt a wave of regret.
He hadn’t even checked Cai Xiaowei’s injuries earlier.
Then, in his anger, he had hit her right on the same spot.
Now, looking at Cai Xiaowei’s face, his heart ached.
“How about I take you to the hospital?”
“No need.
Mom has already come out to welcome us.
I don’t want her to worry.”
Cai Xiaowei opened the car door and stepped out.
Su Ling had left work early and cooked an entire table of dishes herself.
She waited until dark, and when her son and daughter finally came home, she excitedly came out to greet them.
When Su Ling saw Cai Xiaowei’s face, she was startled.
“Xiaowei, what happened to your face?”
Before Cai Xiaowei could explain, Su Ling had already hugged her with concern.
Then she angrily shouted at Lin Zihao, “What’s the matter with you?
How did your sister get hurt?”
“It’s my fault.
I didn’t protect her.”
Lin Zihao felt very guilty.
“Mom, it’s not his fault.
I ran off on my own and got cornered by some thugs.
If my brother hadn’t come to save me, I might have…”
Cai Xiaowei quickly explained.
“Oh, my poor child.
The important thing is that you’re back.
Mom made lots of good food.
You eat a lot later and replenish your strength.”
Su Ling took Cai Xiaowei’s hand with concern.
At the dinner table.
“Try Mom’s braised pork.”
Su Ling kept piling food onto Cai Xiaowei’s plate.
“Thank you, Mom.
I’m really full.”
Cai Xiaowei was indeed full.
There was no helping it—after all, this was a girl’s body.
“Have some more chicken soup.
You’re so thin.
You need to nourish yourself.
Don’t always think about losing weight.”
In Su Ling’s experience, young girls nowadays were always thinking about dieting and not eating properly.
Many of the young female employees at her company were like that.
Cai Xiaowei had no choice but to brace herself and take the bowl of soup.
Lin Zihao watched with a hint of envy.
But more than that, seeing Cai Xiaowei forcing herself made him want to laugh.
“Zihao, I won’t allow this to happen again.
She is your sister.
You have to give in to her in everything.
Don’t let her get hurt again.”
Su Ling looked at Lin Zihao, who was sitting across from her, and instructed him.
“Got it.
I’ll take good care of her from now on.”
Although Lin Zihao was still a bit reluctant, he nodded anyway.
“By the way, school is starting in a few days, right?
Zihao, this is your last semester of high school.
If you don’t study hard, how will you get into a good university?”
Su Ling suddenly said seriously.
“Got it.
I’ll study hard.”
Lin Zihao said impatiently.
“Oh, and Xiaowei, you should go to school too.
I know you stopped after middle school because of your father’s situation.
But now that you’re with Mom, you should learn more things.
It will ultimately be good for you.”
Su Ling continued to Cai Xiaowei.
“But Mom, I don’t know anything.
Going would just be killing time.”
Cai Xiaowei was telling the truth.
Studying had never been his thing.
“That’s fine.
Learn as much as you can.
I’ll put you in Zihao’s class.
That way, Zihao can take care of you.”
Su Ling’s attitude was firm—this was how she made arrangements.
It was a habit she had developed over years in the business world.
“I’ll arrange your enrollment first.
When school starts, have Zihao take you to register.”
Su Ling added.
“Thank you, Mom.”
Cai Xiaowei had no choice but to agree.
“Oh, and Zihao, take your sister shopping for clothes tomorrow.
Now that she’s my daughter, she needs to dress presentably.”
Su Ling was simply too busy; otherwise, she would have taken her daughter shopping herself.
Cai Xiaowei felt a bit embarrassed.
Aside from the goddess’s original dress, which was somewhat decent, the clothes he had bought later were all cheap street stall items.
It was true—wearing those clothes would embarrass his mother.
“Got it.
I’ll handle it.”
Lin Zihao looked Cai Xiaowei over.
Feeling embarrassed under his gaze, Cai Xiaowei lowered her head deeply.
After dinner, Su Ling personally applied medicine to Cai Xiaowei’s face.
Then, after repeatedly telling Cai Xiaowei to be careful, she finally left.
Cai Xiaowei was deeply moved.
This was the first time in his life that he had received such considerate care.
The warmth of family made tears unconsciously stream down Cai Xiaowei’s face.
‘Dad, Mom is very good to me.
I’m living well now.
Don’t worry.’
Cai Xiaowei silently said this to his father in heaven.
Before long, he unconsciously fell asleep.
He had simply experienced too much today.
Both his body and mind were already exhausted.
In his dream, a little boy clung to him every day, following behind him and calling him “big sister.”
Until one day, a group of knights came and took her away.
The boy swore, “Big sister, I will come find you and bring you back.
Wait for me.”
Later, another group of people blocked the knights and her.
They said they had caught the little boy and would kill him if she didn’t come to rescue him.
She led the knights back to save the little boy, but fell into an ambush.
The enemy outnumbered the knights by dozens to one.
“Go!” the knight commander shouted as he fell in a pool of blood…
Cai Xiaowei cried out and woke up.
She was drenched in sweat, her face filled with lingering fear.
“What’s wrong with you?
Are you okay?”
Lin Zihao had originally come to wake Cai Xiaowei for breakfast and to take her shopping, but this was what he saw.
“Nothing, nothing.
I just had a nightmare.”
Cai Xiaowei waved her hand.
“It was just a nightmare.
Don’t be so tense.
Look at you, all sweaty.
Go take a shower.
I’ll wait for you downstairs for breakfast.
Today, I’ll take you out shopping.”
Lin Zihao patted Cai Xiaowei’s shoulder to comfort her.
Cai Xiaowei looked at Lin Zihao strangely.
‘Why is he being so nice today?
Am I still dreaming?’
Seeing Cai Xiaowei staring at him, Lin Zihao seemed to read what she was thinking.
His face flushed slightly, and he felt a bit flustered.
“Don’t overthink it.
You are my sister after all.
I can’t keep being mean to you.
I’m going downstairs now.”
After Lin Zihao left, Cai Xiaowei took a shower in the bathroom attached to her room.
After all, that dream had left her covered in sweat.
‘That scene just now didn’t feel like a dream at all.
It felt like a memory.
Even now, it’s still vivid in my mind.
Could it be the goddess’s memories from when she was alive?
Does she want me to help her find her little brother?
Who were those knights?
Who were those bad people who killed her?’
Lying in the bathtub, Cai Xiaowei slowly reasoned his way to this conclusion.
