Chapter 10: “Dugong, Dama”

Yeram wasn’t suddenly getting angry.

From her perspective, considering the current situation, it was understandable since strangers were entering the stream and making inappropriate comments.

As a younger sibling, she might feel upset about that.

‘If Yeram heard those comments… I’d be angry too.’

So I could understand why she was reacting like that. I would feel the same way.

Still, I thought it would be better to explain the situation.

It would be awkward if misunderstandings changed the mood in the chat.

I muted the microphone for a moment and spoke to Yeram.

“Those people are all people I know from the community. Don’t say anything unnecessary.”

If they weren’t people I usually hung out with in the gallery, I would have responded more harshly, but since they were familiar faces, it didn’t feel necessary.

If they crossed the line, I could always resort to legal action.

“Still, making sexual comments like that isn’t right.”

“Those people are like that normally. And I did write some posts pretending to be a girl, so it might be my fault.”

“Hmm… well, I guess.”

Yeram tilted her head slightly, looking unconvinced, but then she nodded.

It seemed she was willing to let it go.

Relieved, I turned the microphone back on.

“Testing, testing, broadcasting from the administrative office.”

I spoke to check if the mic was working well.

The chat went wild.

[Hwanhee: Why are you lying?]

[Aren’t guys allowed to do public service? That guy’s a fucking racist.]

[Kang Hoomin: I’ve said it before, but it would be nice if we could refrain from military-related discussions. If you don’t want to see the gallery fall apart.]

Among those comments, there was the most important question.

The stream name.

They were curious about what to call me as the streamer.

Honestly, I had thought about this issue several times.

The stream name is very important for someone doing internet broadcasting.

“It should be something catchy that’s not too weird.”

Suddenly, I decided to ask the people in the chat for suggestions.

“Can you recommend a name to use on the stream? I can’t think of anything.”

I couldn’t use my real name, after all.

I hoped for something witty.

With that hope in mind, I checked the chat.

[Kang Hoomin: How about ‘Kingdom’?]

What kind of ridiculous name is that?

If I used that name, people would only find anime or drama results when they searched it on the internet.

It’s the worst possible name.

[Kang Hoomin: Just give it a try.]

[Kang Hoomin: I can seriously punch a guy.]

[Hwanhee: But these days, most decent nicknames are already taken.]

Now that I think about it, that doesn’t sound too bad.

If I randomly combine letters, I might come up with a decent name.

What could I use?

“Hmm…”

As various ideas floated around in my head, a good one suddenly came to mind.

A name that had a nice ring to it and would be memorable.

It was something I remembered from a documentary I had watched before.

“How about Dugong?”

Dugong.

Not bad, right?

It had a nice sound to it, and even if it was the first time people heard it, they wouldn’t easily forget it.

It wasn’t a particularly famous animal either, which made it even more appealing to me.

As soon as I said that—

[Omniscient Cthulhu: What the hell is a Dugong?]

[Omniscient Cthulhu: Freakin’ weeb.]

[Hwanhee: lol what’s a Dugong?]

[Kang Hoomin: For those who don’t know what a Dugong is, it’s a medium to large herbivorous marine mammal that inhabits the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, and South Pacific.]

[Ah, seriously, I wanna punch this guy for explaining things so much.]

[But that was actually kind of helpful lol]

Looking at the chat, it seemed like my choice wasn’t too bad.

There weren’t any particularly negative reactions.

Just as I was about to confirm it—

“Oppa, I really don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Yeram, who had been quietly watching my stream from her seat, carefully spoke up.

It seemed she really didn’t like the name.

I muted the mic for a moment, curious about what she had to say, and took off my headset.

Then Yeram began to speak seriously.

“Dugong really isn’t it.

What even is that?

It doesn’t sound good, and it’s not something people would want to call you.”

“…Is it really that bad?”

“Yeah, oppa. It seriously sucks.”

I was shocked.

I thought it was a fairly decent name.

But then—

“How about Dama instead? It’s also based on an animal’s name.”

“Dama?”

“Yeah. It’s way better than Dugong.”

I liked the name Dugong, but since Yeram had never been this insistent before, I decided to trust her this time.

“Okay, I’ll ask them about it.”

“Sure.”

Yeram returned to her seat with a look as if she had just saved someone.

Dugong wasn’t that bad, though.

Feeling a bit disappointed, I turned the mic back on.

“I’ve come up with a new name besides Dugong, so hear me out.”

[What is it, then?]

[Omniscient Cthulhu: The chances are high that it’s another awful name, lol.]

[Kang Hoomin: Based on past experience, it’s going to suck again.]

[Hwanhee: lol]

[Hwanhee: The reaction is like this because you’ve probably done something weird on the forums.]

[You have to do something trustworthy to be trusted.]

I hadn’t done anything particularly strange.

I just trolled like everyone else, but I never posted anything problematic.

Feeling a bit wronged, I revealed the name Yeram had suggested.

“What do you think about Dama?”

Dama.

It wasn’t as fancy as ‘Dugong,’ but objectively, it wasn’t a bad name.

I figured the chat would respond negatively.

Thinking that, I checked the chat.

[Omniscient Cthulhu: That’s good.]

[Omniscient Cthulhu: Dama is solid.]

[Dugong <<< After hearing ‘Dama,’ it actually sounds pretty good.]

[But yeah, lol Dugong was absolutely awful.]

[Kang Hoomin: I think Dama is a decent name.]

[Hwanhee: Dama sounds really good? It has a nice ring to it.]

The reaction in the chat was unexpected.

It seemed like people actually liked the name ‘Dama.’

“Dama is better than Dugong? Doesn’t it give off a bit of a simpleton vibe?”

[Omniscient Cthulhu: If we’re talking about simpleton vibes, Dugong was the worst, lol.]

[Kang Hoomin: Does this guy have any conscience?]

Though there were quite a few chat messages compared to the number of viewers, it wasn’t so fast that I couldn’t keep up with reading them.

“So, should it be Dama or Dugong?”

I asked one last time.

Honestly, I wanted to go with Dugong, but if most people wanted Dama, it seemed best to go with that.

[Omniscient Cthulhu: Just shut up and go with Dama, damn it.]

[Hwanhee: Stop bringing up Dugong, lololol.]

[Kang Hoomin: Not Dugong, Dama. I’m not saying it again.]

[They’re pretty set on it, lol.]

[Dama is way better anyway.]

But no miracles happened.

I shouldn’t have listened to Yeram.

Feeling a bit resentful, I settled on the stream name.

“Wow, the name sounds like it should be on a ramen package.”

Holding back a sigh, I moved on to what I had originally planned.

Ranked game time.

“Alright, let’s do this.”

My first-ever ranked game.

I was really looking forward to seeing how fun it would be.
