The sound of hurried footsteps came from the stairwell.
Ye Qing, completely soaked, suddenly appeared before the three of them, gasping for breath.
“Dr. Hadi, Yuxuan collapsed in the bathroom! Please go up and check on her!”
He spoke to Hadi in an urgent yet calm voice.
Without a word, Hadi followed Ye Qing up the stairs.
Chenlian, unable to understand what was happening, stared blankly at the spot where Ye Qing had just been standing.
Fuzi walked over to Chenlian, cupped her face in both hands, and positioned her own face directly in front of Chenlian’s with a serious expression.
“Chenlian, stay here and don’t move. Mom will go up and take a look, okay?”
Still not understanding the situation, Chenlian obediently nodded in response to her mother’s words.
Fuzi let go and hurried up the stairs as well.
In an instant, only Chenlian remained alone at the table full of hot dishes.
Following Ye Qing, Hadi quickly arrived at the bathroom.
He crouched down and examined Lin Yuxuan’s condition on the floor.
“Doctor, how is Yuxuan now?”
Ye Qing asked, somewhat anxious.
“Delayed internal bleeding. She’s currently in shock.”
With just a brief examination, Dr. Hadi made his diagnosis swiftly.
“How is Yuxuan?”
Just then, Fuzi also arrived at the bathroom, asking with concern.
“The injury isn’t severe. With timely treatment, she’ll be fine. Fuzi, go get the stretcher!”
Dr. Hadi answered quickly, then decisively gave his assistant the order.
“Yes, sir!”
Fuzi acknowledged the command and began running deeper into the hallway.
Watching Fuzi disappear around the corner, Ye Qing couldn’t help but ask Hadi, “There are stairs over there too?”
“An elevator. And it goes directly to the medical office. Lin Yuxuan needs to be moved to the medical office for treatment.”
The doctor continued his further examination while answering Ye Qing.
“Why did this happen suddenly? Wasn’t she fine when we got back?”
Ye Qing voiced his confusion to Hadi in a puzzled, somewhat anxious tone.
“This is my mistake,”
Hadi suddenly lowered his head, looking somewhat ashamed.
“Due to my negligence, I failed to check Lin Yuxuan’s condition in time.”
Hearing this, Ye Qing suddenly understood.
But immediately after, he asked Hadi in a confused voice, “Didn’t you catch them, Doctor? Otherwise, how could they have been fine at that time?”
“Yes, I caught them. But that was in mid-fall,”
Hadi stood up, turned off the bathroom’s showerhead, then stroked his chin and analyzed calmly.
“They had already fallen at least eight meters by then. And the impact of both of them falling was borne entirely by Lin Yuxuan.
Because I caught them at the highest point of their fall, I didn’t exert any upward force on my end.
But Lin Yuxuan still had to endure all the downward force—and double at that, for two people.
She lost consciousness immediately after taking the full impact.
After bringing them down, because the drug’s effect had just worn off, I didn’t examine her right away. And then I got careless.”
Hadi sighed at this point, then addressed Ye Qing and Lin Yuxuan, who lay unconscious on the floor, with a solemn and sincere apology.
“I am very sorry, Ye Qing. Lin Yuxuan.”
Ye Qing clenched his fists, gritted his teeth hard, then relaxed the tension in his body, leaned against the wall, and let out a breath.
“It’s not the doctor’s fault. I couldn’t do anything either. There were other options at the time, but I believed in Yuxuan and chose this risky method.”
“Young lad, that was the safest option at the time. You should know that better than—”
Hadi’s words were cut off halfway by Fuzi’s voice as she ran from the depths of the hallway.
“Dr. Hadi!”
Fuzi called out, carrying a folded stretcher, announcing her arrival in advance.
Ye Qing stepped out into the hallway, making way for Fuzi and Hadi.
Lin Yuxuan, covered with a large towel, was carefully lifted onto the unfolded stretcher.
“Sister Fuzi, let me do it!”
Ye Qing wanted to help. After all, as a boy, he was stronger than Fuzi.
But Fuzi closed her eyes and shook her head.
Then, with a serious expression, she entrusted Ye Qing with a request.
“Ye Qing, please take care of Chenlian. That child has probably noticed by now.”
Ye Qing sighed and responded with an equally serious expression.
“Understood. Leave it to me, Sister Fuzi. Please take care of Yuxuan!”
Fuzi nodded gravely, then worked together with Dr. Hadi to lift Lin Yuxuan smoothly.
Watching the two disappear at the end of the hallway, Ye Qing turned and headed back toward the stairwell.
‘Was that really the best option? At the time, that was the judgment call.
But there were many possibilities. The one that guaranteed Chenlian’s safety the most was this one.
The one that eliminated other uncertain factors and maximized the chance of success was also this one.
And it was what Yuxuan wanted…
Fine. No use thinking about it now. It’s already over.
Now I have to do what I need to do.’
As he thought this, Ye Qing suddenly stopped at the corner of the stairs.
Cold sweat soaked his back.
He slowly clutched his head, his expression frozen.
‘What do I do~!? Me, take care of Chenlian in her current state, or something!?’
His heart twisted in indecision for a while.
Finally, as if making a resolution, Ye Qing pursed his lips, his eyebrows furrowed tightly into a “八” shape, and held his clenched fists to his chest.
‘Since I’ve already accepted Sister Fuzi’s request, as a man, I must go through fire and water— no, wait! I just have to grit my teeth and do it!’
Having made his resolve, Ye Qing marched bravely toward the first floor.
Just as he was about to step off the last stair, a sudden chill wind blew past, making him shrink back instantly.
Then he cautiously poked his head out to look at the source of the cold air.
Chenlian was sitting quietly on a chair at the dining table, facing the stairwell.
Her hands were clenched, propping up her legs.
Her head was buried deeply.
Several strands of hair had slipped from her shoulders, hanging beside her pale cheeks.
Then Ye Qing saw the glint of tears falling from the corners of Chenlian’s eyes.
Ye Qing pulled his head back and mechanically turned his face toward the wall.
‘Wh-what do I do?’
He clutched his chest, where his heart was pounding with nervousness.
‘No! I already promised Sister Fuzi. Since I’m a man, I must go through fire and water— no, wait! Just grit my teeth and do it!’
Ye Qing took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled.
Then he walked down from the second floor.
Hearing the sound, Chenlian lifted her small head and looked toward Ye Qing.
The next moment, Chenlian vanished before Ye Qing’s eyes!
This wasn’t a metaphor—she really did disappear.
Then, in the lower part of his field of vision, Ye Qing saw her still somewhat damp pink hair.
At some point, Chenlian had already moved and was now standing right in front of Ye Qing.
Somewhat shocked, he looked down at Chenlian, who was gazing at him with moist purple pupils.
‘An ability?’
“How is… Yuxuan… now?”
Her halting, quiet voice was filled with sorrow. Chenlian asked Ye Qing.
Ye Qing scratched his head.
‘How should I answer? Make up an excuse to get through it? No. That’s impossible. There’s no way I could brush her off. And Sister Fuzi didn’t ask me to. I should just tell her the truth.’
“Yuxuan is in shock right now. Dr. Hadi said it’s delayed internal bleeding.”
“Shock?… Delayed?”
Chenlian lowered her head and murmured the words she didn’t understand.
“Anyway, Chenlian, you don’t need to worry. With Dr. Hadi and Sister Fuzi here, Yuxuan will get better soon,”
Ye Qing said seriously to Chenlian, taking his hand down from scratching his head.
“It’s… all… my… fault?”
Chenlian looked up at Ye Qing with even moister eyes and asked anxiously.
‘Ah, ah, ah! This is so troublesome! I knew it would come to this!’
Ye Qing closed his eyes and scratched his head hard in frustration.
‘This might seem a bit heartless, but I’m going to have to lecture her a little.’
He opened his eyes and looked seriously, somewhat angrily, into Chenlian’s purple pupils.
“Chenlian! I think we’ve already said this before. We’re doing all of this of our own free will.
We want to do this. And of course, we do it fully aware that we might get hurt.
So there’s no need for you to blame yourself, Chenlian.”
Chenlian lowered her head, clutching the dress she was wearing with both hands.
“But! This… really… is… all… my… fault! If I—”
Chenlian stubbornly insisted, somewhat awkwardly.
“Do you want to go against our wishes again?”
Ye Qing raised his voice, genuinely a bit angry now, as he scolded her.
His words clearly had an effect.
Chenlian shrank back fearfully.
Her small body began to tremble.
Tears streamed down in large drops.
Her lips were pressed tightly together.
But she didn’t cry out loud.
‘Did I go too far?’
Ye Qing let out a soft sigh.
“I’m sorry, Chenlian. Even though I’m very sorry, I won’t take back what I just said,”
Ye Qing said calmly, gently stroking Chenlian’s small head with his hand.
“Don’t worry about Yuxuan. I can promise you she’ll be fine. Tomorrow, she’ll be bouncing around right in front of you again.
So you don’t need to worry, Chenlian. Yuxuan just needs some rest.”
Chenlian suddenly threw herself onto Ye Qing, burying her head and crying even harder.
The sound of her crying echoed in Ye Qing’s mind.
‘So she finally decided to cry it out, huh?’
Ye Qing thought this as he comforted Chenlian.
Ye Qing also knew that Chenlian wasn’t really at fault.
In a sense, Ye Qing and the others were the ones in the wrong.
Because they also hadn’t accepted Chenlian’s wishes.
Instead, they had imposed their own wishes onto Chenlian.
Putting it nicely, they did it for Chenlian’s own good.
But this was undoubtedly an act of disregarding Chenlian’s wishes.
From Chenlian’s perspective, it didn’t feel good at all.
But for Chenlian’s sake, they had to do this.
Because this was the most helpful thing they could do for Chenlian in her current state.
