Ultimately, the matter was resolved, albeit imperfectly. Pan Yao was hospitalized and subsequently expelled, while I was suspended from school and confined to home.
I spent my days lounging idly on the sofa, flipping from side to side, reveling in the blissful days of staying home. I remained utterly oblivious to the grim fate awaiting me just days later: my sister would transform me into a loli, plunging me into a dark, inescapable prison of a life.
As for Hao Yinjian and Lei Chao, who had initially intended to join me in severely beating Pan Yao, they were startled by my desperate, no-holds-barred fighting style. Far from landing a single punch on Pan Yao, they transformed into zealous bystanders frantically trying to restrain me.
Consequently, beyond a severe warning, they faced no further disciplinary action from the school. Instead, they became campus heroes, lauded for upholding justice and maintaining peace.
By Friday evening, Xiao Yu announced she would visit after school. In anticipation, I specially prepared a lavish dinner, prompting Chen Si Yi, who had returned home half an hour earlier than Su Xiao Yu, to frown and scoff disdainfully.
“Hmph, so Sister Xiao Yu is coming to see you, isn’t she?”
“She is.” I shook the spatula clutched in my hand. “Si Yi, how did you know?” ‘It didn’t seem like I’d told her about Xiao Yu’s visit, had I?’
“How did I know? Does it even require guessing?” Tossing her schoolbag onto the sofa, Chen Si Yi sneered disdainfully. “Go look in the mirror in the bathroom; your smile is truly repulsive, like some perverted creep.”
Having delivered her taunt, Chen Si Yi pursed her lips and retreated to her bedroom to change into a blue nightgown. Her smooth, bare thighs were dazzling, almost blinding.
However, I remained unaffected by her. I had long since become immune to Chen Si Yi’s cold sarcasm. ‘A little displeasure from my sister? Couldn’t I just silence her with delicious food later?’
Everything proceeded smoothly. Xiao Yu, who had rushed straight from school without even changing out of her uniform, joined Chen Si Yi and me for an unusually harmonious dinner in the dining room.
Laughter and cheerful chatter occasionally filled the space. The food was delicious, the atmosphere pleasant, and the squabbling I had initially feared never materialized.
I had, of course, kept the events at school a secret from my sister. Both Su Xiao Yu and I shared an unspoken understanding on this point.
Even when Chen Si Yi questioned us several times, we pretended that nothing had happened, deliberately sidestepping the topic.
That night, the scenery was serene yet dazzling. A gentle breeze swept through, and below, the shadows of swaying leaves danced on the ground. Above, the vast, shimmering river of stars stretched across the sky.
Everything, absolutely everything, felt destined, flowing as naturally as water.
After dinner, having descended the elevator, Xiao Yu and I walked shoulder-to-shoulder along the stone path of the residential complex. Just as at the dinner table, we maintained a comfortable, unspoken silence.
In the deserted night, only the soft cadence of our slow footsteps could be heard.
Shush. Shush.
The sands of time, like an hourglass, always reach their inevitable end. Yet, if I could rewind, I would wish for time to freeze at this very moment.
As we walked in tranquil silence with Su Xiao Yu, we eventually reached a deserted pavilion. My thoughts a tumultuous mess, I could no longer suppress the restless stirring within me.
I finally mustered the courage to take Xiao Yu’s delicate hand, so close to mine. Turning my head, my gaze locked with her pretty face, where a flicker of panic danced in her eyes.
Huff. Puff. Huff.
Xiao Yu, whose fingers were now tightly intertwined with mine, found her breath growing hurried. A captivating blush bloomed across her cheeks; under the luminous moonlight, she appeared exceptionally alluring and tender.
I knew my own state was likely no better. I abruptly closed my eyes, deciding to throw all caution to the wind, resolved to finally unleash the torrent of feelings that had long been hidden deep within my heart!
“Xiao Yu, I…!”
—Thump.
However, my words were cut short mid-sentence by the sudden press of a soft, delicate body against mine.
I opened my eyes once more. What met my gaze was Xiao Yu’s intensely shy face and her flickering, uncertain eyes.
“Lin, Lin Yan… No, don’t do this.”
Xiao Yu’s lips trembled, struggling to form words, and glistening trails began to spill from her eyes.
“Some words, once… once spoken, can never be unsaid. So please, don’t… don’t say anything more, okay…?”
I didn’t fully grasp the meaning of Xiao Yu’s words. I only knew that after speaking, she struggled free from my embrace. Forcing a strained smile that barely reached her eyes, she turned and gradually vanished from my sight.
