After Mo Bai ‘recovered’ from his illness, Mr. and Mrs. Mo desperately wanted to
stay home and spend more time with their precious son.
But they only grew busier.
Mo Bai spent two days learning some basic common knowledge about this world.
However, overall, he didn’t learn much.
There were too few people on the sanatorium planet, and for some reason, very
few came to their area.
Soldiers also patrolled frequently.
As a result, aside from his family’s nanny, servants, and bodyguards, the only
people he could see were those from the estate next door.
And he couldn’t really get much information from the Mo family’s servants.
So Mo Bai focused on recovering his divine power and kept going to the estate
whenever he could.
To nurture himself in the wishing well.
The two estates weren’t far apart.
Even when little Mo Bai had been dull and simple, he often ran over to the
estate.
The butler and guards next door were already used to it, and since His Highness
the Crown Prince had allowed little Mo Bai to remodel his pool, they certainly
wouldn’t stop him.
Thus, the fish in the pool increased from two to six.
And the lotus leaves grew from two to over ten.
Every single leaf had been snapped off—no roots, just stems.
And over these two days, every morning when Wen Zhaoyan opened his eyes, he
could see Mo Bai happily splashing about in the pool.
Wen Zhaoyan asked, “The Mo family isn’t worried?”
Their simple son had recovered; they should be more careful, not let a child
paddle around in a pool all day.
The butler explained, “Worried? Of course they’re worried. But the Mo family
company isn’t doing well right now. They can’t find time to accompany little Mo
Bai, so they’ve hired a bodyguard to watch him from the shore and custom-ordered
an intelligent lifebuoy.”
The intelligent lifebuoy would automatically sound an alarm if it detected
weakening vital signs nearby, then perform a rescue, safely positioning the
person on the buoy to keep them from sinking further.
At this, the butler looked a bit concerned. “Your Highness, should we remind the
little boy that lotus flowers aren’t planted like that?”
These few lotus leaves would rot after a few days in the water.
And the fish would starve without specialized fish food.
Wen Zhaoyan’s voice was indifferent: “Let him see for himself rather than
telling him the result.”
The butler thought about it and agreed.
Watching the process firsthand was more meaningful than just hearing the
outcome.
A child’s innocence shouldn’t be stripped away.
Since they were next-door neighbors and the child was so adorable, the butler
secretly prepared some plantable lotus flowers and ornamental koi, planning to
give them to little Mo Bai as a gift after the fish he raised died.
But several days passed, and the fish in the pool actually grew a bit.
Not only had the lotus leaves not rotted from being soaked, but they had also
taken root!
This was far too unbelievable!
Even with the sanatorium planet’s good environment, this shouldn’t be possible!
The butler hesitated, wondering whether to report this to His Highness the Crown
Prince.
Or perhaps have someone test the lotus leaves’ genes first?
Mo Bai had no idea what the butler was thinking, and wouldn’t have worried if he
did.
Who would suspect a six-year-old child?
If the lotus leaves he planted somehow took root, it was certainly due to the
leaves’ own genetic issues.
What could a little baby possibly have to do with it?
On the interstellar network, the situation regarding the Mo family’s company was
growing increasingly intense.
The Mo family was one of the empire’s manufacturers of hover vehicles, sharing
the market with two other families.
This time, the Mo family had launched a brand-new system for their hover
vehicles.
The new system included a protective shield that not only reduced the
probability of accidents but would also protect the owner even if an accident
did occur.
It was somewhat similar to the concept of a life pod, greatly enhancing safety.
As a result, shortly after the new system launched, the Mo family surged ahead
of the other two families, truly becoming the leading hover vehicle company,
with sales and production far exceeding the combined growth of the other two
families.
However, in less than a year, the new system hover vehicles began experiencing
frequent malfunctions: system failures, or the protective shields failing to
activate.
The most outrageous and bizarre incident occurred when the shield’s oxygen
function failed, and the owner suffocated inside the shield.
The oxygen function of the shield was the simplest and most basic equipment,
with safety supposedly reaching 100%.
Even this could fail, further degrading public perception of Mo family hover
vehicles.
The Mo family was put on the spot; the situation couldn’t be suppressed.
The victims’ families refused compensation and were determined to sue the Mo
family.
When the Mo family tried to negotiate, they instead accused the Mo family of
using their power to suppress them and trying to buy them all off.
Thus, for the past two months, the Mo family had faced tremendous pressure.
Not only were massive orders canceled, but the hover vehicles sold were also hit
with quality lawsuits.
Burdened with many legal cases and facing a joint boycott, under consecutive
pressure, everyone was turning against them, and the Mo family was facing
bankruptcy.
Even though Mo Bai had just recovered, his parents couldn’t find time to spend
with their precious son, too busy and overwhelmed.
At dawn, without even time to eat, Mr. and Mrs. Mo said good morning to Mo Bai,
told him to be good at home, and prepared to leave.
Watching the two patches of dark clouds over his parents’ heads, Mo Bai couldn’t
help asking, “You’ve been very busy lately. Has something happened?”
Mrs. Mo thought her son was complaining about their busyness, and her heart
ached as she picked up Mo Bai. “Baby, I’m sorry. Mom and Dad really are busy
right now. Once this period passes, we’ll stay home and spend time with you,
okay?”
Mo Bai looked again at the dark clouds over their heads.
Such heavy bad luck—it didn’t look at all like everything was fine.
He tilted his head and said seriously, “I can help.”
Mr. and Mrs. Mo’s hearts almost melted.
How could their baby be so good, so understanding?
But their baby was only six and had just recovered. How could he understand
company matters?
Mrs. Mo stroked his head and gently coaxed, “We’ve received your concern,
Baibai. Don’t worry, our family will be fine soon. You stay home, listen to Aunt
Chen, okay?”
Mo Bai saw they weren’t going to tell him, so he nodded. “Okay.”
His soft little voice lifted Mr. and Mrs. Mo’s spirits.
They each kissed Mo Bai and reluctantly left.
Mo Bai watched them go, then toured the villa again with his little hands behind
his back.
Finding nothing to investigate, he headed to the neighboring estate.
Mo Bai soaked in the wishing well until he’d had enough, then got up and went
home.
He thought his parents would be as busy as the previous two days, coming home
late at night.
Unexpectedly, shortly after he returned, Mr. and Mrs. Mo also came back.
Their expressions were grim.
Mo Bai noticed the dark clouds over their heads had grown thicker.
Something was about to happen.
Sure enough, that night before he even lay down, Mrs. Mo’s anxious voice came
from the next room.
Mo Bai climbed out of his little bed and left the room.
As soon as he stepped out, Mrs. Mo picked him up.
“Baibai, hurry! Daddy’s having a mental energy problem!”
At the same time, the bodyguard quickly asked, “Madam, do we have an isolation
shield installed? Is there any calming spray?”
“Yes, we have both,” Mrs. Mo said, her voice trembling slightly.
Mo Bai could feel her worry and fear.
He reached out a small hand and gently placed it on the back of Mrs. Mo’s hand.
His soft little hand seemed to carry a kind of strength, calming Mrs. Mo’s heart
considerably.
She quickly activated the isolation shield, found the calming spray, opened it,
and threw it into the shielded room.
Only when the irritable and violent mental energy stopped pouring out did she
breathe a sigh of relief.
After doing all this, Mrs. Mo put Mo Bai down beside her and started making
phone calls.
Mo Bai gathered some information from their conversations.
Combined with the common knowledge he had learned these past days, he understood
what was happening.
People in the interstellar era relied on energy to enhance their strength.
The higher one’s mental energy, the stronger they were.
But those with higher mental energy were more prone to violent collapse, which
would also cause their genetic chain to collapse.
Only mermaids could soothe mental energy, but mermaids were so rare that they
were well protected by the Mermaid Association.
Not everyone could afford to keep a mermaid.
To uphold the principle of ‘equality for all,’ the empire also stipulated that
if a mermaid did not wish to be kept, humans could not force them.
Consequently, calming agents and calming sprays made with mermaids’ special
ability had become a blessing for those suffering from mental energy disorders.
But their effects naturally couldn’t match the real effect of a mermaid.
As energy radiation pollution grew more severe, more and more consciousness sea
were becoming polluted and violent, and the effects of the agents and sprays
were increasingly reduced.
The Mo family was wealthy, so they naturally kept a mermaid.
But the mermaid was too fierce.
When kept at home previously, the dull, simple little Mo Bai loved playing in
the water and had nearly been attacked by the mermaid several times.
Thinking his own mental state had been stable for several years, Mo Xiangtian
had sent the mermaid back to the Mermaid Association and individually claimed an
area, planning to go there himself when he needed soothing.
Mrs. Mo was now calling the Mermaid Association to send the mermaid the Mo
family kept.
Unexpectedly, the Mermaid Association branch president righteously refused Mrs.
Mo.
The branch president said coldly, “Madam Mo, based on what the Mo family has
done recently, you have been disqualified from keeping a mermaid!”
Mrs. Mo’s nails dug into her palms in anger. “President, what do you mean? By
what authority have you revoked our qualification?”
The branch president said coldly, “By the authority of the Mermaid Association
to revoke the qualification of owners whose character and morality are
questionable. If you have any objections, Madam Mo, you may appeal to the
Mermaid Association headquarters on the Capital Star.”
With that, he directly cut off the communication.
Mrs. Mo’s expression turned extremely ugly.
The bodyguard looked worried. “Madam, what do we do now? The master’s mental
energy has always been very stable. A sudden surge must have a cause. The
calming spray might not be very effective.”
If mishandled and left with damage, the violence would become a regular state,
like a time bomb ready to collapse at any moment.
Mrs. Mo took a deep breath and said in a low voice, “I’ll ask around.”
On the other end, the Mermaid Association branch president who had hung up made
another call.
Branch president: “Madam Mo came asking for the mermaid.”
A laugh came from the other end of the terminal. “It seems the spiritual
inducing agent is working. You didn’t send the mermaid, did you?”
Branch president: “No, I’ve already promised you I wouldn’t send it. I’m just
worried about the Mo family…”
“The Mo family is about to go bankrupt, President. What is there to worry about?
Even if Mo Xiangtian gets through this this time, the damage to his
consciousness sea is irreversible. He won’t live long. Rest assured.”
The branch president sighed in relief. “And the Capital Star side…”
“Don’t worry, I’ll arrange things on the Capital Star side for you. Just wait
for your transfer back to headquarters.”
Back at the villa.
Mrs. Mo made over a dozen calls.
But the calls were either hung up on or rejected.
Not a single person could help.
Seeing this, the bodyguard couldn’t help but sigh.
It was obvious to anyone with eyes: the Mo family was being jointly targeted,
and someone wanted to completely destroy them.
No one noticed that little Mo Bai, who had been sitting obediently beside Mrs.
Mo, had disappeared.
Mo Bai was now standing next to Mo Xiangtian.
Mo Xiangtian had completely lost consciousness, both hands tightly clutching his
head.
His complexion was pale, his body covered in cold sweat.
He seemed to be in great pain, moaning unconsciously.
The air was thick with an irritable and violent spiritual energy.
This spiritual energy was different from Earth’s—more brutal and more dominant.
This dominant power would collapse when the human body could no longer withstand
it.
It was like… like going mad from martial arts training.
Mo Bai murmured, “As long as it’s spiritual energy, it’s manageable.”
Mo Bai reached out his hand and placed it on Mo Xiangtian’s forehead.
His divine power flowed gently, calming the irritable and violent power in Mo
Xiangtian’s consciousness sea little by little, then slowly refining it.
Refining was a very complex process.
Once he had nearly refined all of the irritable spiritual energy, Mo Bai’s body
swayed.
The little bit of divine power he had managed to recover with great difficulty
in the wishing well was gone.
He staggered out of the room, and as soon as he passed through the doorway, his
body went limp and fell.
A few minutes later, the bodyguard’s voice rang out: “Madam, the young master
fell asleep in the hallway!”
The bodyguard quickly picked up little Mo Bai, and Mrs. Mo rushed over soon
after.
No one noticed an ancient-robed youth of about eighteen, watching them intently.
Mo Bai looked at himself, then at his body being carried away by Mrs. Mo.
Sigh. He’d used up all his divine power, and his soul had floated out again.
His soul was still in his adult form.
Mo Bai drifted into the room, checked his father’s mental state, and only
floated back out after confirming Mo Xiangtian was out of danger.
In his soul state, he hung himself from the chandelier in the hallway, swaying
back and forth.
“My soul has left my body. What should I do?”
Sway once. A little boring.
Sway twice.
“Oh well. I’ll go soak in the wishing well.”
After all, a soul could soak too.
Mo Bai leaped down from the chandelier and floated out of the Mo family villa.
He drifted directly to the ‘wishing well’ at the neighboring estate.
Seeing the lotus flowers and fish, infused with a bit of his divine power,
growing better and better, he was very satisfied.
Mo Bai was about to jump in and nurture himself when a deep voice came from
behind—
“It’s you.”
Mo Bai turned his head to see Wen Zhaoyan standing not far away, his eyes
slightly narrowed.
Mo Bai was surprised.
He was certain this wasn’t Wen Zhaoyan’s dream.
That meant…
“You can see me like this too?”
It was understandable he could see him in the dream before.
But now, he wasn’t in Wen Zhaoyan’s dream. How could he still see him?
Wen Zhaoyan walked toward him and asked in return, “Why wouldn’t I be able to
see you?”
Mo Bai was currently a soul body, so humans shouldn’t be able to see him.
Why could Wen Zhaoyan?
Not wanting to explain, Mo Bai said in a ghostly tone—
“I’m afraid it might scare you…”
“Because I’m a ghost.”
Wen Zhaoyan: “…”
