Chapter 41: An Unexpected Guest

“Ah, I said no! I’m not drunk!”

“I get it. Now, can you try to stand up?”

The company dinner finally ended past midnight.

I tried to wake Seolhyun, who was lying face down, but she swatted my hand away, annoyed.

What do I do now? I can’t just leave her here—this is really awkward.

Crash!

“Seolhyun! Are you okay?”

I asked urgently, but of course, there was no response.

Seolhyun had knocked over empty bottles with her arms and collapsed onto the floor.

Then, as if nothing had happened, she fell right back asleep.

“Should I call the staff?”

“No, I’ll carry her myself.”

“What are you talking about? How on earth will you—”

Now’s my chance, while she’s asleep.

I propped Seolhyun against the wall, positioned her, and hoisted her onto my back.

Her arms went around my neck, and I gripped under her thighs.

She was so light that it wasn’t hard to lift her.

Please don’t wake up.

Just stay asleep.

If you start squirming, this’ll get tricky for me too.

“Wow, where do you get that strength?”

“I hear that a lot. Anyway, Director, I’ll be heading off now.”

“Alright. Thanks for your hard work today. Get home safely.”

Carrying Seolhyun, I stepped outside the barbecue restaurant.

I headed to the outdoor parking lot and spotted a white van.

Approaching the driver’s side, I knocked on the window with one hand.

“Ah, passed out again, huh? I’m so sorry about my sister. She must’ve caused you a lot of trouble.”

Sister? Her younger brother works as her manager?

This is the first man I’ve met in this world who’s doing a real job.

“Well, a little. Does she always handle alcohol this badly?”

“Yeah. She usually avoids drinking entirely, but today she insisted on joining the dinner no matter what.”

Talk about bad timing.

She picked the one day she wanted to drink, and I got stuck dealing with this mess.

Let’s just get her into the car and go home. I’m so tired I could collapse.

“The door’s open now.”

“Alright. Just stay seated—I can handle it myself.”

The car door opened automatically.

I carefully placed Seolhyun into the seat, making sure her head didn’t bump into anything.

Once she was safely seated, I adjusted her posture.

“Why don’t you just ride with us? It’s close to your place anyway. The Luxury The Hill, right? It’s barely 20 minutes away. I’ll take you there.”

As I was about to step out of the car, the manager stopped me.

He offered to drive me home?

I wanted to refuse, not wanting to owe anyone a favor, but the temptation was too sweet to resist.

After all, I’m exhausted and just want to rest.

At this hour, trying to find a taxi would be a nightmare.

Reluctantly, I accepted the offer.

“Would that be okay?”

“Of course! I’m a big fan of yours. I watch your personal broadcasts and U-Cube videos all the time. It’d be an honor for me.”

“Oh! You’re a subscriber? In that case, I’ll gratefully take you up on the offer.”

The manager started the car and began driving. On the way, we chatted. It was rare to meet a male fan, so I asked him all sorts of questions.

“How did you come across my broadcasts?”

“Huh? Oh, my sister is a huge fan of yours. She’s always watching your content, so I started watching too and became a fan myself.”

“Seolhyun is a fan of mine?”

“She’s obsessed! Did you know? My sister is actually the Vice President of your broadcast’s fan club.”

“What?!”

The Vice President?

Isn’t the President Moonhwa, and the Vice President Inyeon? Was Seolhyun living a double life?

Her nickname does fit—it has a connection to acting.

I can’t believe it.

One of the nation’s top actresses is the Vice President of my broadcast’s fan club.

I vaguely remember her donating nearly 20 million won on the first day she joined.

I guess you’d need Seolhyun’s level of class to pull that off.

“Heeheehee.”

“Seolhyun, are you awake?”

Seolhyun was hunched over, giggling softly.

Oh boy, our dear Vice President had way too much to drink.

She looked uncomfortable sitting like that, so I adjusted her position.

I placed my hand on her shoulder and leaned her to the side.

Her light frame toppled over easily.

I laid her down and rested her head on my lap like a pillow.

Brushing back her disheveled hair, I gently patted her back.

This is just a gesture of care for a comrade who fought alongside me in the Eternal World battlefield.

It has nothing to do with her being the Vice President of my fan club.

“But you’re really handsome in person. You’re also really strong. I’m so jealous in so many ways.”

“That’s flattering. You’re quite handsome yourself, Manager.”

The conversation continued.

It’s a compliment I hear often, but it never gets old—it always feels nice.

In return, I complimented the manager.

It wasn’t an empty comment.

He does have striking features, especially for a guy.

I guess it runs in the family since he’s Seolhyun’s brother.

“Haha, thanks. I do hear that a lot, but I can’t compete with you, Yuseong. Even Chaeah said so.”

“Chaeah?”

Who’s Chaeah?

This is my first time hearing that name.

Probably someone the manager knows.

Now I’m curious.

“Seo Chaeah. She said she drove you to your company last time. Don’t you remember?”

Oh, so that’s her name.

I do remember now.

She was the one who gave short answers to everything I asked, leaving me feeling a bit irritated.

What did she say about me?

From the context, it doesn’t sound like anything negative.

“What did she say about me?”

“She said she was so embarrassed she couldn’t even look you in the eye. Isn’t that funny? An Olympic hero acting all shy like that.”

So, it wasn’t because she didn’t like me.

She was just too embarrassed.

I had completely misunderstood and resented her for no reason.

Now I feel guilty.

Wait, Olympic hero? What’s that about?

“Olympic?”

“Yeah. Seo Chaeah is a taekwondo gold medalist. You didn’t recognize her?”

No wonder she gave off more of a bodyguard vibe than a chauffeur.

A taekwondo gold medalist?

And I asked her when she was planning to join the military?

She must’ve been baffled.

Ugh, this is so embarrassing.

“Ah-ha! I know her, Seo Chaeah. But I didn’t expect her to be the same person as the driver.”

“Seems like she has a lot of debt at home. She spent all the money she earned from shooting that Olympic commercial to pay it off. Our CEO hired her at a high price as a bodyguard and chauffeur.”

“I see. With her looks, she should’ve been a celebrity instead. It’s a bit of a shame.”

“That would be tough. Her personality is incredibly introverted.”

I think I understand.

Unless someone speaks to her first, she’d probably go the entire day without saying a single word.

Being a celebrity requires not just looks but also charm.

On second thought, it seems like it would’ve been too challenging for her.

“Hehe, hihi. I’m gonna eat more. Sluuurp!”

Seolhyun giggled with a lisp as if she were enjoying something delicious in her dreams. She smacked her lips.

“Ow!”

“Huh? W-wait a second!”

She bit my thigh! If her aim had been slightly different, it could’ve been dangerous.

She made chomping noises as if pretending to chew on my leg.

The sensation of her warm breath felt strangely unsettling.

“Sorry about this, she’s extra drunk today. Hey, sis!, stop it! That’s harassment!”

“Maybe she’s upset about not getting to eat much during the company dinner. I’ll just let it slide, haha.”

By the time we arrived at the entrance of the luxury “The Hill” apartment complex, my pants were covered in lipstick marks.

After thanking me at the barricade, I was about to step out of the car when the manager called out to me.

“Uh, Mr. Yuseong.”

“Yes? What is it? Do you need to say something?”

I had a rough idea of what he wanted.

Seolhyun didn’t seem likely to wake up anytime soon.

But I didn’t want to be the one to bring it up.

Honestly, it felt like a hassle.

So, I waited for the manager to speak.

“Sis had way too much to drink, and I don’t think I can handle this alone… Would it be okay if we stayed at your place for just one night?”

“What?”

“In her current state, I can’t take her all the way home. If I leave her in the car, I’ll have to stay up all night. Please, I’m begging you.”

Just as I thought.

The manager wanted to crash at my place.

This world really is unique.

How can he even think about letting an actress sleep over at a man’s house?

“But, are you sure about this? Is it okay for Seolhyun to stay at my place?”

“What? Oh! Don’t worry. Sis isn’t the type to drunkenly assault men or anything. I can guarantee that.”

“Ah, I see… Well then, let’s head in.”

“Thank you so much!”

Ugh, this feels dizzying.

Common sense here is completely different.

I feel like I’m the odd one out.

I just decided to go along with it.

If I didn’t know, that would be one thing.

But now that I’m aware—she’s the vice president, after all, and one of the only viewers besides Moonhwa who donated over ten million won.

I can’t just ignore her.

Fine, I’ll use this chance to manage my relationships properly.

Today’s kindness could come back to me as value worth tens or hundreds of times more in the future.

“Thank you! Just a moment.”

The manager stepped out of the car and looked around.

He took a few steps, scanning his surroundings repeatedly, then got back in the car.

“Were you checking for paparazzi?”

“Yes. Just in case, I looked around.”

“Should we check more thoroughly? If someone takes a photo, it’ll be a big problem.”

I felt uneasy.

For an actress as popular as Seolhyun, it wouldn’t be surprising if paparazzi were lurking.

His check seemed too casual, so I suggested it, but the manager shook his head with a smile.

“As you might’ve noticed, noona has a bit of a misandrist streak. So, would she even have any private interactions with men? Paparazzi followed her around diligently for about two years before eventually giving up. You don’t need to worry.”

“Misandrist?”

I’m not sure I buy that.

Isn’t she more of a fox, getting angry and then quickly forgiving?

She clings to people when she’s drunk.

That’s the impression I’ve gotten so far.

But the manager says something completely out of sync with what I’ve experienced.

“And, since many fellow actors live in Luxury The Hill, it’s fine.”

True, now that I think about it, there was Juhee, whom I met when handing out rice cakes.

If people think she stayed at a colleague’s place, it won’t be an issue.

“Then… would you mind taking a photo with me? I have an older sister who’s a huge fan of yours, and I want to tease her with it.”

So, the older sister he mentioned back then was Seolhyun.

Funny how I learn this way later. Human connections are fascinating.

After presenting my ID to the security guard, we entered the complex.

We parked the car in the underground garage.

I carried Seolhyun to the elevator and went upstairs.

Ding! The front door opened, and we stepped inside.

“Could I use the bathroom? If she falls asleep with makeup on, she’ll get upset later. I need to clean her up.”

“Sure, I understand.”

I carried Seolhyun to the bathroom and carefully set her down.

I worried about the hard floor, but the manager supported her well from behind, so she landed safely in a sitting position.

She was still out cold, unable to gather herself.

Her head kept bobbing forward.

She’s someone who should be grateful to have been born in a reversed-gender world.

How can anyone let their guard down so much after a few drinks?

Every time I see her drunk, I think the same thing.

“Ah! Noona, stay still while I clean you up. Lift your head!”

“Ugh! Why are you doing this to meee?”

Seolhyun made a sulky face, like a five-year-old throwing a tantrum.

Her drunken antics are all over the place.

I wonder if she’ll even remember what she’s done when she wakes up.

That’s what I’m most curious about.

“I’ll be outside since I have work to do. Let me know when you’re done.”

“Alright, thank you.”

It was already 1 a.m.

A bit later than usual for uploading my YouCube videos.

Since I’d already reviewed them yesterday, I uploaded them right away.

Three League of Legends videos were added to my playlist.

Not bad, though the content seemed repetitive.

Being bedridden with a cold for two days had taken its toll.

Starting tomorrow, I’ll need to plan better content and film properly.

What kind of video should I make?

I mulled it over for a while.

Hmm, I plan to go shopping for clothes tomorrow.

Maybe I can use that?

Ah! That’s perfect. A new idea just popped into my head.
