Domestic Bliss and a Sneaky Surprise

Xu Yi had even been fed the cake bite by bite by Lu Xingyan.

Only then did he go to check out the guest room he had chosen.

He thought about the decision to sleep in separate rooms now that he had come to his senses. It was actually fine this way — at least they would each have their own privacy.

Sleeping together every day would eventually lose its novelty.

Xu Yi pushed open the door. There was nothing particularly special about the room, except for a bay window where he could probably put a small cushion and then move the bed over to join it.

“By the way, wear loungewear at home.” Lu Xingyan finished speaking and rushed off to the dressing room.

Soon he came back with two sets of early-autumn loungewear.

One was sapphire blue, the other champagne gold. Both looked quite elegant.

But Xu Yi wasn’t really into this style.

“From now on, treat this place as your home. Whatever you want, just tell me.” Lu Xingyan gazed at him with deep affection.

…How cheesy.

Xu Yi took the clothes and went back to his room to change.

He did plan to buy some things. The room here was too bare.

Back home, Xu Yi’s room was decorated in creamy white tones, filled with little items that exuded the warmth of life. Even the tissue box was a cute, carefully chosen design.

While he was putting the contents of his suitcase into the wardrobe, Lu Xingyan had already gone to prepare dinner.

Xu Yi sat on the sofa, opened a shopping app, and ordered quite a few small items.

He also bought more cozy-looking loungewear.

He grudgingly bought a set for Lu Xingyan too. Not knowing his size, he just guessed based on height.

Having someone to live with really did feel different.

He looked towards the kitchen where Lu Xingyan was busy cooking.

It actually… felt a bit like home.

Xu Yi walked into the kitchen and, mimicking what he had seen on TV, wrapped his arms around Lu Xingyan’s waist from behind.

But he couldn’t resist squeezing from his abs all the way to his chest.

So satisfying.

“Butt feeling better?” Lu Xingyan wasn’t angry, just asked lightly.

Xu Yi quickly withdrew his hands. “Let me help you.”

He had, after all, cooked for himself when he was younger.

But maybe his steps were all wrong, and he kept getting in Lu Xingyan’s way.

By the time the meal was ready, Xu Yi felt like he hadn’t contributed anything.

As they sat down to eat, Xu Yi sighed. “I don’t think I helped much.”

Lu Xingyan placed a piece of beautifully glazed sweet and sour ribs on his plate. “Having you by my side, baby, makes me happy.”

Xu Yi didn’t know how to help in the kitchen, probably because he had never cooked with his mother.

Besides feeling sorry for him, Lu Xingyan didn’t find it troublesome at all.

The reason he was so good at cooking was that his father’s hobby was cuisine. He had been helping out since he was a kid.

After a good meal, Xu Yi helped load the dishes into the dishwasher and was about to retreat into his room again.

“Want to play some games?” Lu Xingyan grabbed him by the collar. “That way is the gaming room.”

Xu Yi was no longer too surprised.

Lu Xingyan, once in a relationship, was genuinely attentive.

He had definitely set up high-end gear and gaming peripherals.

But guessing was one thing.

Actually sitting in such an expensive gaming chair, holding a gaming mouse and playing, was a whole different experience.

He got too immersed and accidentally stayed until midnight.

Xu Yi had had a long day, going through so much. Even though he wanted to keep playing, he was getting sleepy.

Lu Xingyan noticed Xu Yi blinking, then his eyes stayed closed for a few seconds. It was quite amusing.

Xu Yi took a quick shower and went to his room.

Lu Xingyan was still showering. The guest room was next to the main bathroom, so he could hear the sound of water.

Strange, why didn’t he use the master bathroom?

Xu Yi didn’t dwell on it. He thought he might have trouble sleeping in a new bed, but he was probably too tired.

His mind wandered to the image of Lu Xingyan showering, and before he knew it, he was losing consciousness.

He didn’t know when the water sound stopped.

Half-asleep, Xu Yi thought he heard the faint sound of a doorknob turning.

Then, amidst the rustling of clothes, his mattress sank.

Xu Yi was suddenly wide awake.

He opened his eyes abruptly and came face to face with a large face leaning close.

“What are you doing?” Xu Yi pressed against the other’s chest and sneered, “Sneaking up on me in the middle of the night?”

“Sneaking?” Lu Xingyan looked confused, then pinched Xu Yi’s hand affectionately and lay down. “Didn’t you say you wanted to sleep in this room?”

“So why are you here?”

“What couple sleeps separately?” Lu Xingyan said matter-of-factly, then turned around and wrapped his arm around Xu Yi’s waist to prevent his wife from running away if he got upset.

Xu Yi was silent.

He had been bothered earlier that day about choosing rooms. A couple living together wasn’t like roommates; they shouldn’t have separate rooms.

He hadn’t expected that Lu Xingyan meant they would pick a room to sleep together.

If that was the case, why not choose the master bedroom?

Xu Yi felt really stupid. Really stupid.

If they moved tomorrow, school started tomorrow.

Xu Yi hesitated for a moment.

Fortunately, Lu Xingyan didn’t ask why. He just got up cheerfully.

Otherwise Xu Yi would have had to explain why he wanted one room.

That would have been awkward.

Sleeping in the bigger bed, Xu Yi finally felt satisfied.

Xu Yi slept until noon. After lunch, he played games all afternoon before returning to school with Lu Xingyan.

When Li Yuan saw them coming back together, he sucked on his instant noodles with a resentful expression. “Where did you guys go this weekend? You didn’t even reply to my messages. Are you abandoning me?”

Xu Yi felt a bit embarrassed. He couldn’t exactly tell Li Yuan that Lu Xingyan was supporting him.

If he said they were dating, who knew when they might break up. It would be awkward in the dorm for everyone.

He also knew Xu Yi cared about these things, so he didn’t reveal anything.

But his baby’s shy expression was still adorable.

“That’s fine then.” Li Yuan had spent the weekend alone in the dorm, which was indeed boring. Luckily, the guy next door was also the only single dog, so they kept each other company. “So you guys are living together too.”

Xu Yi felt quite guilty. The dorm was originally for the three of them, and now he was leaving Li Yuan alone.

Seeing Xu Yi’s uneasy gesture, Lu Xingyan spoke up to Li Yuan.

“Do you want to come over next weekend? We can stay up and watch the World Finals together.”

Then he thought of something and scratched his head apologetically. “But would that be too much of an intrusion on you two…”

“No, not at all.” Xu Yi quickly said. Intrusion made it sound like they were going to do something at home without anything happening.

“Great! I’ll bring some KFC and we can eat and watch!” Li Yuan excitedly started planning.

Who could refuse to snack and drink beer while watching a match with friends?

“Oh, right.” In his excitement, Li Yuan almost forgot the main point. “The fall sports meet is in two days. The counselor’s assistant told us to sign up.”

“College sports meets are pretty laid back, but our class is a small one. Not many people, so everyone has to participate to fill the events. They want us to choose, or else they’ll assign us.”

Xu Yi’s good mood instantly evaporated.

What he hated most was the sports meet.

“Just sign me up for high jump or something.” Xu Yi didn’t even want to go there.

Lu Xingyan thought he could now accurately read Xu Yi’s mood from his subtle expressions. He sat beside Xu Yi and tapped the table with his finger. “I’ll sign up for two events. I can cover for you on one.”

Xu Yi paused, looked up, seemed to process for a few seconds, and then his eyes lit up. His eyes curved into crescents as he looked at Lu Xingyan. “Really? Then I’m counting on you.”

“But it’s not free, you know.” Lu Xingyan leaned in closer and lowered his voice. “I want to do it in the locker room…”
