“Ahem, ahem…”
Yilian cleared her throat lightly, using this as a reminder for the two who were getting intimate.
Earlier, she had thought they were sisters, but given the current situation… she wasn’t sure anymore.
“Stop messing around.”
“We’re here to find clues,” Li Yin said, trying to pry off the hands that were tightly hugging her.
“But the clues are already pretty obvious.”
The words were spoken casually, yet they made Karel and Yilian jolt, their gazes converging on Li Luo.
“You… you already know?”
Karel’s expression was as if he had seen a ghost.
‘You didn’t even glance at the corpse!’
The accusation almost slipped out, but remembering her unfathomable strength, Karel swallowed his words.
“What clues?”
“Spill it!”
Yilian urged impatiently.
“Death energy.”
“The product of Naraku.”
The brief words were exceptionally cold, as if she didn’t want to say more.
When faced with anyone other than Li Yin, Li Luo was always like this.
“Death energy?”
“Naraku?”
“What’s that?”
Yilian was still full of question marks, indicating she had never encountered such things.
Karel, on the other hand, furrowed his brow, because he had heard of it.
“Naraku is the most vicious move of a witch doctor.”
“It involves slaughtering countless beings and collecting their resentment to condense into an entity.”
“These resentments gradually corrupt the surrounding land, eventually forming Naraku.”
“Any living thing eroded by the death energy produced in Naraku becomes bloodthirsty.”
“Unless it is suppressed by enough divine energy, it cannot be cleansed.”
“The eroded flesh eventually rots into black sludge.”
“I never thought I’d encounter such a heinous thing in my lifetime… It’s as if human life means nothing!”
By the end, Karel couldn’t control his anger.
His hands clenched unconsciously, nails digging into his palms.
The sharp pain came repeatedly, but he didn’t care.
“These defilers of life should have gone to hell long ago!”
With another curse, he slammed his fist heavily onto the bed board.
The dull thud made the corpse on the bed jolt.
The repeated commotion frightened the nun nearby.
She had been feeling nauseous from earlier, and now this added shock left her face pale and her entire being unsettled.
“So you’re saying there’s a witch doctor hiding outside the town?”
After hearing the explanation, Yilian felt a headache coming.
Why did they have to run into such a thing?
“Can you… handle it?”
She looked at the two who were still embracing, her voice already tinged with hesitation.
Li Yin turned her head to look at the person behind her.
Li Luo still wore a smiling face, so the problem probably wasn’t big.
“Mm, it’s fine.”
“Are you really sure?”
Yilian was still worried.
“It’s fine, it’s fine.”
“I might not be able to, but Luoluo is very strong.”
“Since you say so… alright then.”
In the end, they moved the corpse out of the basement.
The priest and nun buried it in the cemetery behind the church.
“I’ll leave it to you then.”
“If you really can’t handle it, don’t be reckless and lose your lives.”
Before parting, Yilian reminded them again.
Li Yin just waved her hand without saying anything.
After all, she knew very well how formidable Li Luo was.
‘Luoluo, it’s up to you again.’
Wait, why ‘again’?
Sure, recently she had indeed been pushing all the troublesome matters to her.
But it couldn’t be helped.
Who told her to be stuck carrying an egg?
‘At worst, I’ll find a chance to make it up to her.’
‘As long as it’s not too much to ask, I can accept it.’
“Yinyin, don’t worry.”
“This kind of small matter is a piece of cake.”
“Just look who I am~”
Patting her chest—which was not exactly mountainous—Li Luo acted as if she had a 36D bust.
“Anyway, Yinyin, go back and take care of the baby.”
“I’ll be back soon.”
“Mm.”
After accompanying Li Yin back to the inn room, Li Luo vanished in a flash.
Setting down the basket, Li Yin sat by the bed.
Though the doors and windows were tightly shut, she could still hear the noise from outside.
‘Maybe… I could ask her for a quieter place to stay?’ she mused to herself, thinking of Yilian.
After all, as the mayor, such a request shouldn’t be difficult.
The blazing sun hung high in the clear sky.
In the forest outside Selivia Town, light filtered through the sparse leaves onto the ground, but it did not bring any warmth.
Gusts of cold wind swept through the eerie silence, playing a chaotic, demonic-lullaby-like tune among the leaves.
In a bush, several rabbits shrouded in black mist were gnawing on a wild boar.
The boar let out weak cries of despair; its life was nearing its end.
Hot, scorching blood flowed from its wounds, dyeing the rabbits’ fur deep red.
Suddenly, a rustling sound of footsteps came from nearby.
The bloodthirsty rabbits were startled.
In a flash, they burst out of the bushes and lunged straight at the source of the sound.
“Squelch.”
Another stream of blood dotted the gray-black fur.
This time, it was their own.
Unconcerned, Li Luo stepped over the rabbit corpses pierced by ice needles and walked deeper into the forest.
By now, the woods had become a graveyard for animals.
Corrupted by death energy, they craved flesh and blood; their eyes held only slaughter.
When only one species remained, they would cannibalize each other.
And when only one creature was left, it would even devour itself, until no living thing remained nearby.
This was Naraku—the power of the abyss, forged from tens of thousands of resentments.
As she ventured further, the coppery smell of blood gradually turned into an unbearable stench, like a sewer that hadn’t been cleaned in years.
Now, the number of corpses on the ground increased, accumulating like water forming a pool.
Most had rotted into thick black sludge, leaving only scattered yellowed bones.
Not only animals but even the trees couldn’t escape the influence.
Their leaves turned white, as if spiders had woven thick webs.
Branches drooped like willows, resembling hideous demons with green faces and fangs.
Random growths of tumors looked just like human lumps, sending chills down one’s spine.
At some point, thick white fog had enveloped everything.
Even sunlight couldn’t penetrate it.
The view grew dim, as if a gray curtain had covered the sky.
“Hey, little girl, aren’t you a bit too bold to come here alone?”
A somewhat hoarse voice sounded.
A blurry figure emerged from the mist.
They were draped in a black robe, tall and thin, holding a round orb that emitted a scarlet glow.
The two stood facing each other.
Li Luo made no response to the words.
“Hey, talk!”
The black-robed person shouted.
Yet Li Luo still showed no reaction, not even a strand of hair moved.
‘Could she be scared stiff?’ the black-robed person muttered to themselves.
Suddenly, an ice needle glinting with cold light shot toward the black-robed person’s brow with lightning speed.
Startled, the person dodged hastily, but a bloody gash was left on their forehead.
“Damn!”
“You young people have no sense of martial ethics!”
The black-robed person stomped in anger.
Young people?
No, she wasn’t young.
She wasn’t even human.
“Idiot,” Li Luo said flatly.
“You!”
Insulted, the black-robed person grew angrier.
“In that case, don’t blame me!”
