Chapter 9 • 1,439 words • 12 min read

Gu Yanzhou raised his hand to tousle his hair, his long fingers gently threading through the strands.

Su Nanxing looked up at him, confusion evident in his eyes.

In the quiet air, the sound of a metal button coming undone was particularly clear.

Gu Yanzhou’s fingers continued their movement through his hair, the pressure slightly increasing as he pressed down.

Su Nanxing understood then what the so-called interest was.

After collecting the interest, Gu Yanzhou fastened his belt and resumed his immaculate appearance.

Su Nanxing instinctively wanted to get up and see him off at the airport, but Gu Yanzhou flatly refused.

He didn’t want anyone to see Su Nanxing like this—the faint flush at the corners of his eyes, the lingering soft weariness in his brows, a delicate expression of having been thoroughly bullied, easily stirring sympathy in one’s heart.

This appearance, he wanted only to keep for himself, never to be revealed to others.

Su Nanxing stood at the entrance, not insisting further.

He simply tilted his chin up slightly, his expression docile as he silently begged for a kiss.

Gu Yanzhou looked at him, frowned slightly, leaned down, and placed a kiss on his flushed cheek.

The moment his lips left the cheek, Su Nanxing froze.

‘Was he… disgusted by my mouth?’

The ever-stubborn Su Nanxing immediately refused to let it go.

Before Gu Yanzhou could straighten up, he reached out, cupped his cheeks, his fingers gently holding him, and without a word, raised his head and quickly, actively kissed him on the lips.

Gu Yanzhou was first startled, then a wave of helplessness welled up in his heart, mixed with a touch of indulgence.

He really couldn’t do anything about this willful, stubborn childlike nature.

The kiss ended, Su Nanxing took a step back, his eyes sparkling with triumph, and waved. “Mr. Gu, goodbye.”

A-Kai had also returned to the capital with Gu Yanzhou.

Su Nanxing’s injuries were mostly healed, and he really didn’t need a watchdog staring at him every day.

Gu Yanzhou couldn’t argue with him, so he had to take A-Kai away.

But even though A-Kai left, the others did not withdraw.

The next day, Lu Ran visited Su Nanxing’s apartment again.

Until evening, the two were still immersed in the world of gaming.

Far away in the capital, Gu Yanzhou was still at a business dinner when he saw a message from his subordinate:

[Mr. Lu is still in Second Young Master Su’s apartment. The door is closed. The situation is unclear.]

He could no longer sit still.

The originally harmonious dinner atmosphere turned stiff because of Gu Yanzhou’s sudden departure with a grim face.

Everyone at the table was uneasy, afraid that they had offended the big shot of the capital circle with some careless word and cut off their own livelihood.

Lin Muze was also frustrated, not understanding what had gotten into Gu Yanzhou.

The whole dinner had been arranged according to his wishes.

He hadn’t done anything wrong, had he?

He sent a message:

[Brother Zhou, if you want to kill me, use a knife, not the cold shoulder!]

Gu Yanzhou replied:

[You all continue. I’m heading back first to deal with something.]

Lin Muze breathed a sigh of relief and continued to navigate the dinner.

Soon the table returned to a harmonious scene.

Gu Yanzhou’s phone rang for a long time before it was answered.

It was Lu Ran’s voice.

– “Xingxing, your phone.”

– “Answer it for me.”

– “Hello? Um, Su Nanxing is in the shower and can’t come to the phone. Who is this? Is there something urgent?”

– “Let him answer the phone!”

Lu Ran was startled by the gnashing voice on the other end.

Who was this? Was there something urgent?

– “Wait a moment, I’ll have him open the door and hand the phone to him.”

– “Wait!”

Gu Yanzhou was almost furious.

Su Nanxing was in the shower; how could he open the door for someone else like that?

– “Never mind, have him call me back after his shower.”

Gu Yanzhou softened his tone.

He couldn’t stand the thought of Su Nanxing wandering around in front of someone else after a shower.

So he tried to calm himself, hoping that person would take the hint and leave Su Nanxing’s home as soon as possible.

Gu Yanzhou received a call from Su Nanxing five minutes later—five minutes that felt like sitting on pins and needles.

– “Mr. Gu, in such a hurry to find me, is there something you need me to do?”

Su Nanxing drawled, pausing in his own way.

The anger in Gu Yanzhou’s heart was suppressed by another kind of fire.

But he didn’t forget the main issue.

– “Is Lu Ran still at your place?”

– “No, he went back.”

– “Mm.”

– “You’re not calling just because Lu Ran was here, are you? Are you checking up on me?”

– “Carousing with someone in the dead of night, no sense of propriety.”

– “Who says? I’m very proper. I’m…”

Someone who has a boyfriend.

Su Nanxing stopped himself, not finishing the sentence.

Could he be called a boyfriend?

Gu Yanzhou had never said it, and given his status, his family would never allow him to have a boyfriend, right?

– “What is it?”

Gu Yanzhou was unaccustomed to the sudden silence.

– “Your person.”

Su Nanxing chose a more appropriate term.

Gu Yanzhou was pleased and praised him generously.

– “Mm, good boy!”

– “By the way, I’ll arrange the trip to the capital as soon as possible. Just wait patiently.”

Indeed, Gu Yanzhou liked obedient, sensible, and compliant people.

After hanging up, Su Nanxing couldn’t fall asleep for a long time due to the strange emotions rising in his heart.

Finally, he figured it out.

This relationship couldn’t see the light of day for now; it still needed effort.

Qin Shifeng looked at the documents A-Kai had delivered, his face full of confusion.

The Jiangcheng Su family’s company—an utterly ordinary construction firm—had nothing particularly special to warrant Qin Group awarding them the west city project, even if it was only the tip of the iceberg.

“Are you sure this is President Gu’s intention?”

Qin Shifeng felt it necessary to confirm.

A mere cultural tourism city infrastructure project was indeed the smallest of small projects, but he had plenty of other suitable candidates.

This piece of the pie shouldn’t go to the inconspicuous Su branch in the capital.

“Yes, this is President Gu’s intention.”

A-Kai paused, then handed over a stack of blueprints.

“President Qin, President Gu said you could look at these designs before making a decision.”

“Alright, I’ll go along with President Gu.”

Qin Shifeng agreed readily.

Gu Yanzhou had never interfered in his domain before.

Over the years, the three of them had coordinated perfectly, each doing their own job without meddling in each other’s decisions.

Now, the president of Hengrui Group was doing him a favor, giving him a chance to return a courtesy.

Either way, he didn’t lose.

But he was curious—who was this divine being, and what kind of work would make Gu Yanzhou condescend?

He casually flipped open the blueprints, unable to hide his admiration.

In Jiangcheng, at the Su residence.

Su Bingtian was in a rare paternal demeanor, holding Su Nanxing’s hand as if he had forgotten how he had recently beaten his own son black and blue.

“Nanxing, you’ve grown up now. You can help your father share the burden.”

Su Hao, lying on the sofa, let out a sarcastic snort.

Who was the brainless fool that had taken a liking to Su Nanxing’s design drawings?

And they specifically requested him to go to the capital branch to be in charge of the cultural tourism city infrastructure project under Qin Group.

Su Nanxing was just a waste, an illegitimate child.

What abilities did he have?

He was nothing but a pretty face, a tool for serving people.

Thanks to certain people, these words were known throughout Jiangcheng.

Su Nanxing knew it too.

In Jiangcheng, there was no place for him.

Even more tragic, he could be devoured at any moment, gnawed down to the bone.

Su Hao’s undisguised sarcasm was something he had long gotten used to.

He indeed had a good appearance, but he was glad he could decide how to use it.

That way, he had the opportunity to do what he wanted.

When leaving the Su residence, Su Nanxing looked with disgust at the skin Su Bingtian had touched.

He took out a disinfectant wipe and wiped it repeatedly, then threw the wipe into the nearby trash bin as if it were contaminated with a virus.
