Don’t Set Your Sights on Him

Chapter 28 • 1,454 words • 13 min read

Su Nanxing signed the last document, not even lifting his eyes as he turned down Lu Ran’s mysterious invitation.

As soon as work was over, he drove his big G straight to Yanshan Residence.

The road there was smooth and unobstructed—no longer did he have to park far away on the street or wait for the gate to open.

The outer gate of Yanshan Residence slid open automatically.

Su Nanxing drove smoothly into the garage, killed the engine, and got out.

As he pushed open the door and stepped into the foyer, bending down to change his shoes, Uncle Xu’s kind voice drifted over from inside: “Young Master Su, you’re back.”

Su Nanxing took off his coat and handed it over, subconsciously glancing at the clock on the wall.

A barely contained light flickered in his eyes as he asked softly, “Uncle Xu, has Yanzhou returned?”

Uncle Xu took the coat draped over his arm, carefully hung it up, and replied with a hint of gentle hesitation: “The eldest young master said he won’t be staying here tonight. Before he left, he specially instructed the kitchen to prepare your favorite sweet-and-sour fish and old duck soup. Young Master Su, please come and eat.”

Su Nanxing walked silently to the dining table and sat down.

The table was laden with dishes that showcased a five-star chef’s exquisite skill—the aroma filled the air.

But when he chewed, it felt like wax, devoid of any flavor.

Ever since he got that big G, for the past half month, he had returned to Yanshan Residence every day.

Yet counting carefully, he had only seen Gu Yanzhou once, briefly last week.

After a short moment of tenderness, it was endless waiting again.

He listlessly took a couple of bites of rice, then looked up at the huge house—empty, without any sign of life.

A surge of disappointment welled up inside him.

He couldn’t bear to sit any longer.

Suddenly rising, he grabbed his coat from the chair back, clutched his car keys, and strode straight out the door.

The heavy door closed softly with a dull thud.

Hearing the sound, Uncle Xu came out of the kitchen.

He looked at the almost untouched food on the table, then at the empty doorway, and couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh.

Su Nanxing returned to his own apartment, curled up on the sofa, and played some games.

A simple level he just couldn’t clear.

Irritated, he tossed his phone aside, leaned back, and stared blankly at the ceiling.

Suddenly his phone rang.

Without checking the caller ID, he eagerly answered.

– “Xingxing, won’t you really come out and play with me? There’s a surprise today—are you coming or not?”

Lu Ran’s excited voice rang out.

Su Nanxing lowered his eyes and said weakly,

– “I’m not going. Not in the mood.”

Lu Ran could tell he was down.

– “You’re in a bad mood? If you’re feeling down, you need to come have some fun with me. I promise I won’t disappoint.”

Su Nanxing was swayed.

He really did need to vent some bad emotions right now.

The underground parking lot was brightly lit.

A silver-black McLaren screeched to a halt in front of Su Nanxing, its cool body gleaming sharp.

Lu Ran lounged in the driver’s seat, dressed in sharp attire, one eyebrow raised, fingers tapping lazily on the steering wheel, his smile bold and wild.

“Let’s go, President Su. I’ll take you somewhere fun.”

Su Nanxing circled the car once before getting in.

“What kind of spell did you cast on Lin Muze? He lent you his car again?”

Su Nanxing still remembered last time when Lu Ran borrowed his car, he cherished it like a baby, terrified Lu Ran might steal it.

Lu Ran just smiled and said nothing.

The racetrack’s asphalt glowed warmly in the light.

As soon as Lu Ran entered, he greeted everyone with familiar high-fives—clearly a regular.

This was just a friendly race, the atmosphere relaxed and easygoing, purely a meeting of car enthusiasts.

After crossing the finish line, a crowd laughed and cheered, agreeing to head to the nearby Quye Campground for drinks and chat.

The evening breeze was cool, string lights swaying.

A sharp-looking guy in motorcycle gear, drink in hand, sidled up to Su Nanxing to strike up a conversation.

The man extended his hand: “Hi, I’m Ahao. What’s your name? Haven’t seen you before.”

Su Nanxing clinked his glass against the other’s: “Su Nanxing. First time here today.”

Ahao withdrew his hand awkwardly and sat in the chair to Su Nanxing’s right.

“You’re Lu Ran’s friend?”

“Mm.” Su Nanxing was unused to being so close to people and shifted slightly to the left.

Ahao could see the deliberate avoidance, but it only confirmed his suspicion.

Ordinary people—two grown men sitting together, drinking and chatting, arms slung over shoulders—that was totally normal.

Someone who deliberately pulled away was a kindred spirit.

Su Nanxing was simply too good-looking, too captivating.

The moment he and Lu Ran appeared at the track, Ahao was mesmerized at first sight.

So he had arranged this gathering, hoping to get close to Su Nanxing.

“Xingxing? Can I call you that? I heard Lu Ran call you that.”

Ahao put away his aggressive gaze, smiling like a sunny boy.

Su Nanxing thought they’d only just met, so what he was called didn’t matter: “Whatever.”

“You like cars too?”

“I don’t race. Just here with Lu Ran.”

“Oh, feel free to come often. We’re always here.”

Ahao poured Su Nanxing another drink.

Su Nanxing was in a bad mood and was already tipsy, his cheeks flushed.

He answered halfheartedly, his gaze drifting.

Suddenly a commotion broke out in the crowd.

Someone shouted, “Look, it’s Young Master Lin! It’s Lin Muze!”

Lin Muze swept his gaze across the crowd but didn’t see Lu Ran.

He grabbed the arm of someone nearby and said harshly, “Where’s Lu Ran? Where did he go?”

“He should have gone back to the track with Gangzi. They had a drink and both felt it wasn’t enough, so they wanted another round.”

Lin Muze cursed under his breath: “Damn, drinking and then racing!”

Now Lin Muze truly regretted it.

Ever since Lu Ran had accepted his McLaren, he had visited every track in the capital, searching for him every day.

If he had known that car would become more important than himself, he would never have given it as a gift.

Wasn’t this just asking for trouble?

Lin Muze was about to leave, cursing, when he stopped dead in his tracks.

Who did he see?

In the corner of the camp, who else but Su Nanxing?

And who was that drinking with him?

The guy looked shady.

He pulled out his phone and snapped a photo of the two.

Putting away his phone, Lin Muze walked over.

Ahao looked at the approaching figure and grinned, “Young Master Lin, here to nab someone again?”

Lin Muze gave him a cold look, then glanced at Su Nanxing, who was already completely drunk.

Instinctively, he reached out to check on him, but before his hand touched Su Nanxing’s face, a shudder ran through him, and he pulled his hand back.

He only dared to tap the tip of his shoe against Su Nanxing’s: “Hey! Su Nanxing, you okay?”

Su Nanxing looked at him with bleary eyes: “Lin Muze, what are you doing here?”

He looked left and right, not finding that particular person, and muttered, “He… he didn’t come…”

Lin Muze let out a sigh.

Good, his mind was still somewhat clear.

He turned to Ahao with a warning stare: “Hey, kid! Don’t give him any more drinks, and don’t get any ideas about him!”

Ahao met his gaze without flinching: “What? Young Master Lin? Is he your man too?”

Lin Muze let out a scoff, advising him earnestly: “He’s not my man, but that person—you can’t afford to mess with him. You’d better listen, or if you so much as touch a hair on Su Nanxing’s head, he’ll kill you!”

Before leaving, Lin Muze turned back and shot him a hard, warning glare.

Ahao saw the two men Lin Muze had left behind, their eyes brimming with menace, watching him and Su Nanxing without blinking.

He glanced at the groggy man slumped in the chair, took off his own jacket, and was about to step forward when the two men blocked his way.

Ahao held up the jacket in his hand: “It’s windy here; he’s been drinking. I’m just covering him with my jacket, then I’ll leave.”

The man stepped aside.

Ahao draped the jacket over Su Nanxing and left reluctantly.
