The Price of Arrogance

Chapter 79757 words7 min read

“Well, you’re a pretty decent-looking kid, I’ll give you that. Didn’t expect you to have some backbone, though.” The leader spoke, a sneer twisting his lips.

“…” Bai Chen, in truth, refused to engage with such an imbecile.

Witnessing Bai Chen’s silence, the group unanimously concluded that he was terrified. Indeed, any normal person would be paralyzed by fear in such a moment.

Drawing from their ample past experiences, they naturally assumed Bai Chen was no exception. His silence only served to embolden their already inflated arrogance.

The leader suddenly stepped forward. Bai Qiao was surprised to find that this person possessed an air of arrogance and mischief, quite unlike the crude thuggery of the others.

Judging by his demeanor, he seemed like a spoiled scion from a wealthy family, accustomed to his playful delinquency.

Just as Bai Qiao was speculating about his background, the young man leading the group gently placed a hand on Bai Chen’s face. He even rubbed it a few times, his eyes fixed on Bai Chen as he declared, “Honestly, I don’t mind gender. Someone as exquisite as you, I’m quite pleased with.”

“Snap!”

“Ah!”

Never before had Bai Chen endured such treatment, such an insult. With a surge of strength, he instantly snapped the man’s hand. The youth screamed, clutching his broken hand as he collapsed to the ground.

The surrounding ‘lackeys’ merely retreated, their voices trembling as they stammered, “You’re finished! You actually hurt him!”

“Oh? Is he very powerful?” Bai Chen raised an eyebrow. He pressed his foot onto the young man’s body, twisting it a few times. The youth let out two more agonizing screams, followed by… the sound of bones breaking.

Bai Qiao quickly assessed the damage—it was probably three broken ribs.

“He… he’s the young master of the Stormcloud Society!”

“The Stormcloud Society? What’s that? Is it very powerful?” Bai Chen applied more pressure with his foot. Instead of asking the lackeys, he turned to Bai Qiao.

“Hmm… The Stormcloud Society is quite a formidable underground organization. They’re probably the leading syndicate in this city,” Bai Qiao mused, propping her chin in her hand. “So, this guy is the chairman’s youngest son, then? What was his name again… Song Luo?”

“Exactly!” Hearing Bai Qiao acknowledge the Stormcloud Society’s influence, the lackeys’ confidence grew, yet they still dared not approach to help Song Luo. The aura emanating from this seemingly unremarkable ‘pretty boy’ was far too intense.

It was a feeling that any slight movement would result in death… a sensation that pushed one’s nerves to the brink of collapse.

It wasn’t that Bai Chen hadn’t concealed his killing intent; rather, he simply hadn’t imagined he would ever be so brazenly molested, and by such a ‘scum’ at that. Even killing him wouldn’t be enough to quell his rage.

Bai Chen stared down at Song Luo, a thought forming in his mind: ‘Perhaps I should sever his limbs and gouge out his eyes? Turn him into a human pig?’

Perhaps Bai Chen’s murderous gaze was simply too potent, for Song Luo’s body trembled violently. He teetered on the verge of a complete breakdown.

“You, you, you, you let me go, or else my father! Argh!”

Bai Chen only lifted his foot when Song Luo’s face had turned a deep purple. “Or else what?” he asked calmly.

“You, you let me go! I’ll give you money!” Having learned his lesson, Song Luo quickly changed his plea.

“What use do I have for money?!” Bai Chen looked down at Song Luo with utter disdain.

“Alright, let’s go.” Bai Qiao tugged at Bai Chen. Although she herself wanted to act like Bai Chen, or rather, her former self would have certainly done so, perhaps it was due to her transformation into a girl that she had begun to consider the consequences. The thought of Song Luo accidentally dying and causing trouble prompted her to intervene.

Bai Chen scoffed, his gaze fixed on the unconscious Song Luo. He moved his foot, then pulled Bai Qiao away.

Only then did the lackeys rush forward to help Song Luo. With difficulty, Song Luo opened his eyes, glaring in the direction the two had departed. Resentment flashed in his eyes as he seethed, “This humiliation today, I will repay it a hundredfold. It will be easy for the Stormcloud Society to find two people in this city. When the time comes… how should I torture you?!”

Then, amidst the gasps of his lackeys and the wail of an ambulance siren, Song Luo fainted.
