My Wife is a Sword Immortal

Chapter 1 • 1,280 words • 11 min read

Jiangnan, the Zhennan Prince’s Mansion.

The front hall was filled with people kneeling on the ground.

Eunuch Liu, wearing a purple robe, unfurled a bright yellow imperial decree, and his sharp, shrill voice rang out.

“Jun Ao, the Heir of the Southern Prince, receive the decree—”

“…The Eldest Princess, Huai’an, is gentle, kind, and of outstanding appearance and character. Today, she is specially bestowed in marriage to Jun Ao, the Heir of the Southern Prince… The Heir is ordered to set off immediately for Wudu to complete the marriage…”

Jun Ao knelt on the ground, his mind buzzing.

Completing the marriage in Wudu?

This was demanding him to become a hostage!

Eunuch Liu closed the imperial decree and handed it over with a smile.

“Heir, please receive the decree. The horses and carriages are ready, you must set off immediately.”

Jun Ao looked at the bright yellow scroll, his hands trembling.

Going meant becoming a caged bird.

Not going meant defying an imperial decree.

He grit his teeth and reached out his hand—

“He cannot receive it.”

The voice came from outside the hall, clear and cold as snow.

Everyone turned their heads.

A woman dressed in white stood barefoot in the courtyard, her long hair cascading down like a waterfall, held up only by a single plum blossom branch.

She held a sword in her hand that was not yet unsheathed, yet the temperature of the entire courtyard dropped by several degrees.

Mei Yingxue.

Jun Ao’s child bride.

Jun Ao’s heart burned with warmth—so this was what it felt like to be protected.

Mei Yingxue walked inside, and the blades of the Azure Dragon Guards were instantly drawn halfway out of their scabbards.

Those twelve blades had once slain three Ninth Realm Grandmasters.

She did not look at them, walking straight up to Eunuch Liu and drawing her sword.

The tip of the sword rested against his throat.

“The princess wants to marry Jun Ao?” She spoke, pausing after each word. “Tell her to come to Jiangnan.”

Eunuch Liu’s face froze.

“Do you know what you are saying? This is an imperial decree—”

“I heard it.” The tip of the sword moved forward half an inch. “Also, she can only be a concubine.”

She tilted her head to glance at Jun Ao, then turned back:

“I will be the primary wife.”

The hall fell deathly silent.

“Audacious!” Eunuch Liu screamed sharply. “Azure Dragon Guards! Take her down!”

Twelve blades pounced forward like dragons.

Mei Yingxue swung her sword.

Boom—!

Deep within the prince’s mansion, the seven-story Martial Pavilion that had stood for seven years split cleanly into two halves from top to bottom.

The tear was as smooth as a mirror.

Sword energy soared into the sky, carrying the cold fragrance of plum blossoms.

The twelve blades stopped mid-air, and the skin between the thumbs and index fingers of all the guards split open from the shock.

Eunuch Liu slumped to the ground, his face devoid of color.

Mei Yingxue sheathed her sword and turned to pull Jun Ao up.

“Go back and tell the Martial Emperor.” She looked down at Eunuch Liu. “We accept the marriage, but the groom will not go to Wudu.”

“Either the princess marries down to Jiangnan as a concubine.”

“Or—” She paused. “You can keep this decree for yourselves.”

After saying this, she pulled Jun Ao and walked away.

When she reached the door, she looked back:

“Right, remember to have the palace send money for the repair costs of the Martial Pavilion.”

“After all, it was your people who frightened me.”

Jun Ao: “…”

Sister, you do not look frightened at all.

The plum blossom forest in the backyard.

Mei Yingxue released her grip, and Jun Ao’s legs went soft.

“Are you afraid?” She asked.

“Scared to death…” Jun Ao’s voice trembled. “That was an imperial decree! The Azure Dragon Guards! You even split the Martial Pavilion—”

“I built the Martial Pavilion.” She interrupted him. “Seven years ago, on the day I broke through to the Ninth Realm, I built it on a whim.”

Jun Ao choked on his words.

“Then what do we do now?” He said with a bitter face. “The Martial Emperor will not let this rest…”

“Of course he won’t.” Mei Yingxue caressed a plum tree. “But he also dares not move against the Zhennan Prince’s Mansion easily.”

“Why?”

“Because of me.” She turned her head. “A twenty-seven-year-old Sword Immortal is enough for him to weigh carefully.”

The sunlight spilled across her face.

Jun Ao suddenly discovered that this older sister, who had beaten him since childhood and stolen his candied hawthorns, was actually very beautiful.

Also, she was terrifyingly strong.

“Sister…”

“Hmm?”

“You said earlier… the princess would be a concubine, and you would be the primary wife…”

Mei Yingxue’s hand paused for a moment, and she did not turn around: “Why, are you unwilling?”

“No!” Jun Ao quickly waved his hands. “It’s just… I didn’t expect…”

“Didn’t expect what?”

“Didn’t expect that you would be willing to marry me.”

Mei Yingxue remained silent for a long time.

“The day Mother picked me up and brought me back, she gave me my name and gave me a home.”

“When you were bitten by a venomous snake at five years old, it was I who helped suck out the venom for you.”

“When you learned the sword at ten years old, I taught you hand by hand for so many years.”

“When you sneaked into the brothel at fifteen years old, I went looking for you with a sword and demolished the Wanhua Mansion.”

She turned around to look at him:

“Jun Ao, I have protected you for twenty years.”

“It was not an older sister protecting a younger brother.” Her eyes were as clear as a spring. “It was a woman protecting her own man.”

“Do you understand?”

Jun Ao opened his mouth, his mind a complete blank.

Mei Yingxue waited for a few seconds and sighed: “Let it go, take it as if you do not understand.”

She turned around to leave.

“Wait!” Jun Ao spoke up.

She stopped.

“I need some time to process this…” Jun Ao’s face turned slightly red. “But if it’s you… it doesn’t seem unacceptable…”

Mei Yingxue kept her back to him, the corners of her mouth turning up slightly, though her voice remained cold:

“Starting tonight, you sleep in my room.”

“Ah?”

She turned her head to glance at him: “Do you have an objection?”

“No, none at all!”

Mei Yingxue left.

Jun Ao squatted down and covered his face.

‘Holy sh*t… my sister wants to marry me… and she also wants to take the princess as a concubine… the Martial Emperor is going to kill me…’

The night wind blew through the plum forest, and petals rustled down, carrying a cold fragrance.

In the distance, the split in the Martial Pavilion was clearly visible under the moonlight, like a proclamation—

The sky of Jiangnan was about to change.

Wudu, deep within the palace.

A secret report lay on the Martial Emperor’s desk, containing only a single line of text:

[There is a Sword Immortal in Jiangnan, twenty-seven years of age. Surname Mei, named Yingxue.]

The Martial Emperor looked at it for a long time and smiled:

“Interesting, it seems Luo Jinghong’s Immortal Ferry was given to this girl!”

“Pass down the decree to let Huai’an go to Jiangnan. I grant this marriage.”

“As for who is the primary wife and who is the concubine—” A cold light flashed in his eyes. “Let her fight for it herself.”

“Also… have Li Hanyi go to Jiangnan together with her!”
