The Undying Skeleton

Chapter 11 • 995 words • 9 min read

Seeing that both of her shots were easily dodged, Xinya’s brows furrowed slightly.

Something was wrong.

He had evaded her attacks too casually.

Was he using some ability? A physical enhancement type? Or some kind of precognition blessing?

If this was just the basic physical enhancement of a Practitioner, then his reaction speed was astonishing.

She knew the monocle on her face was no ordinary item.

[Item Name: Predictive Scope]

[Item Effect: Predicts the best firing point to assist aiming.]

With a thought, the laser gun in her hand began to squirm and reshape.

Metal components rapidly reorganized, and in just two seconds, it transformed from a sniper rifle into an assault rifle.

Bai Long watched, raising an eyebrow.

Surprise flickered in his eyes.

What the hell?

Could it be… the same type of Stand as mine?

The next second, Xinya pulled the trigger of the transformed rifle.

A torrent of energy rounds, each slightly weaker than before, rained down toward Bai Long.

Bai Long immediately broke into a sprint.

His figure nimbly weaved through the rubble piles.

Energy bullets chased close behind, “bang bang bang” echoing as debris scattered, but they never caught up to his swift movements.

Just as he was about to dive behind a broken wall, he spun around, raised his pistol, and pulled the trigger.

A compressed tire shot out, rapidly expanding in midair into a massive truck tire, hurtling toward Xinya.

Xinya was caught off guard, unable to dodge completely.

Fortunately, the tire didn’t hit her directly.

It struck the drone beneath her.

A crisp “crack” sounded.

One propeller was knocked off.

The drone instantly lost balance and began to wobble.

Xinya’s brows knitted tightly, but her expression remained calm.

With a thought, parts of her laser rifle disassembled automatically, turning into streams of metal that floated upward and converged on the missing propeller spot.

In the blink of an eye, a new propeller formed.

The drone steadied and resumed hovering.

Just as Xinya breathed a sigh of relief, before she could adjust her stance, a calm voice suddenly came from beside her.

“I see. You can control raw materials to reconstruct?”

Xinya’s heart jolted.

She whipped her head around.

On the rooftop not far away, a figure in Agent Zero combat gear stood still.

Bai Long looked evenly at Xinya in midair, his tone calm but carrying undeniable pressure.

“Final warning. Lift the lockdown on Eternal Night City and let me out.”

“I’m in a bad mood. Please understand.”

Hearing the threat, Xinya took a deep breath, anger churning in her chest.

Not only had he pointed a gun at her companion, now he was arrogantly demanding the lockdown be lifted.

But she suppressed her fury, trying to keep her voice steady.

“Sorry, are you a citizen of China? If so, as a ‘Practitioner’, have you registered? Or…”

Her eyes turned sharp.

She stared at Bai Long on the rooftop, unable to hold back her anger any longer, asking word by word:

“Are you also a ‘Zealot’?”

Hearing the hostile tone, Bai Long’s face turned serious.

[Halo.]

[Yes, Master~]

Bai Long’s tone was unusually grave. He asked seriously:

[What’s a Practitioner? What’s a Zealot? Why didn’t you tell me about these?]

Halo: […]

My beloved master~

Is it my fault? You clearly said before, don’t tell me anything unrelated to daily life! AHHHHH!

Just as Bai Long and Xinya faced off, tension sharp as a blade, a sudden change occurred not far away.

“Boom!”

A deep, heavy crash sounded.

Something massive slammed into the ground, rattling the rubble underfoot.

Both Bai Long and Xinya tensed, instinctively turning toward the sound.

Xiaocao, who had been standing there barely daring to breathe, was now retreating hastily, her face pale, just dodging a giant sword aimed at her.

The wielder of that giant sword was not human.

It was a skeleton with only half its body, eerie green light flickering in its hollow eye sockets, its bony hand gripping the sword steady as a rock.

Bai Long recognized the sword immediately.

Based on that iconic weapon, this skeleton was the one who had created those zombies earlier.

But no one expected it to appear in this skeletal form now.

Even stranger, even with only half its bones, it could still lift that heavy sword and attack Xiaocao.

The strike was so sudden that if Xiaocao hadn’t reacted quickly and dodged sideways, being hit directly by that giant sword would have been disastrous.

“Fast dodge.”

A hoarse, twisted, eerie voice suddenly came from the skeleton’s mouth, sending chills down the spine.

The skeleton slowly raised its left forearm, which had no hand, and aimed it at its empty chest.

The next second, a jaw-dropping scene unfolded.

Visible to the naked eye, flesh began to rapidly grow on its withered bones.

Internal organs started forming inside its chest cavity.

Even its left hand gradually grew back complete.

Bai Long: “???”

Damn, even that can’t kill it?

But Bai Long realized something.

If it didn’t die like this, it probably wasn’t a matter of damage.

Sensing there was something wrong with this enemy, Bai Long reached up and yanked the red halo off his head.

He pinched the edge of the halo and smiled slightly.

[This might hurt a bit, Halo. Bear with me.]

Halo: [???]

Before it could react, Bai Long snapped it hard.

A crisp “crack” sounded.

The perfectly round halo was bent into a square.

At the same time, an ear-piercing electronic scream exploded in Bai Long’s mind.

His expression unchanged, he aimed the deformed square halo at the undead creature, which was still regenerating its flesh.

[Curse: Undying]

[Curse Description: A ‘blessing’ given by ***, can be bestowed by the caster upon the dead, but only resurrects them as zombies infinitely close to humans.]

[Curse Target: Zealot of the Compassionate Mother.]

Bai Long: “???”

Bai Long: [Halo, I have a question.]

Halo: [Wuwuwu…]

You told me not to say! You told me not to say!!!
