Sister! I survived!

Chapter 12 • 1,158 words • 10 min read

On the other side, Xinya grew anxious when she saw Xiaocao tightly entangled by the undead creature.

Her child was fast, but had no chance against a swarm of enemies.

She immediately forgot about Bai Long beside her and wanted to rush over to help.

But the problem was, the monster and Xiaocao were fighting fiercely, the great sword swinging so fast it left no gaps.

Their figures interlaced, and for a moment, she couldn’t find an opening to intervene.

The creature was like a madman, intent only on tying Xiaocao down, completely ignoring its own injuries.

Xiaocao watched the great sword come chopping down in a series of strikes.

She had no time to think, could only grit her teeth and hurriedly parry, stepping backward continuously, fine cold sweat seeping from her forehead.

Seeing this, the opposing undead creature let out a piercing, manic laugh, full of madness and mockery.

Seizing a brief pause, Xiaocao suddenly threw her flying knife, aiming at a high platform not far away.

But unexpectedly, the undead creature directly blocked the knife with its body.

The knife pierced its newly formed flesh but struck the bone beneath with a “ding” and fell to the ground.

Xiaocao: “…”

You’re so despicable! Pfft!

She had originally planned to use the knife to escape the battlefield, then let Sister Xinya blast the monster to pieces with heavy firepower.

But the other party clearly saw through her intention and blocked the knife directly.

And obviously, it was stalling for time with another purpose.

Just then, the ground around them began to churn inexplicably, as if something was about to burst out from below.

Tombstones broke through the soil, rising rapidly, densely surrounding them, forming a strange temporary graveyard.

Then, countless mutilated corpses crawled out of the earth beside the tombstones, howling and converging toward the group.

Xinya’s expression changed.

She immediately swung her laser rifle and pulled the trigger at the surging zombies.

Beams of laser shot out, precisely hitting the zombies, instantly burning them to ash, highly efficient.

But obviously, such cleanup was useless.

The zombies poured out from the ground in an endless tide, impossible to kill.

What troubled her more was that the enemy still held a “hostage”.

Xiaocao was tightly entangled by the monster, the two extremely close.

In this situation, she dared not use large-scale weapons to clear these monsters.

Xinya watched the zombies closing in on the struggling pair, burning with anxiety.

What to do?

Just then, a crisp “click” suddenly rang out, breaking the tense stalemate.

That sound was all too familiar to Xinya—the sound of a grenade pin being pulled!

Her heart tightened.

She turned her head sharply toward the sound, and then saw in horror that Bai Long, not far away, was raising his hand and throwing a black grenade.

Xinya’s scalp tingled with shock, and she screamed at Bai Long:

“What are you doing?!”

Bai Long’s voice was calm, his tone utterly composed:

“Saving someone.”

The grenade was thrown, passed through the surging zombie horde, and rolled directly to the feet of Xiaocao, who was still fighting the undead creature.

The grenade looked like an ordinary one, the only difference being its platinum-white color and a clear cross pattern engraved on the shell.

Seeing this, Xinya’s pupils shrank, her heart leaping into her throat.

“No!”

She let out a desperate roar and rushed with her drone toward that direction.

But just then, the platinum-white grenade exploded with a roar.

A dazzling white light burst forth, so intense it forced eyes shut, instantly enveloping the entire blast radius, engulfing both Xiaocao and the monster.

Xinya instinctively squinted, staring blankly at the piercing light.

In her ears, the expected explosive boom echoed, accompanied by a melodious yet somewhat mournful holy music.

The holy music faded, and the white light dissipated.

Their youngest had disappeared from the spot along with those corpses.

Xinya felt her mind go blank.

She turned abruptly to look at Bai Long beside her, her eyes full of grief and anger, and hissed through clenched teeth:

“You killed her…”

Bai Long: “???”

He pointed to where the light had faded and said helplessly, “Look again.”

Xinya: “???”

With confusion and despair, she turned to look at the blast area.

Right, no one was there.

“Look up.”

“Oh, oh.”

Xinya answered blankly, dazedly raising her head.

Looking up, she finally saw that directly above the empty ground where the explosion had occurred, there was a billboard.

At the edge of the billboard, a flying knife was conspicuously stuck.

And hanging from that knife was a familiar girl.

Xiaocao carefully patted herself down, from head to limbs, confirming that none of her parts were missing, then let out a long breath.

Sister! I’m alive!

“I used a Holy Light Grenade. It doesn’t harm living things, actually heals them, but deals double damage to undead creatures.”

Bai Long didn’t want to be seen as a villain, so he explained.

With this explanation, the grief and anger on Xinya’s face completely faded, replaced by barely concealed embarrassment.

To be fair, not only had he saved Xiaocao, but he had also cleared those zombies.

Even if throwing a grenade had startled her and Xiaocao, he had said the grenade wouldn’t harm the living.

Bai Long saw her conflicted expression but didn’t pay much attention.

[Halo, I want to choose a gun.]

He raised his hand, grabbed the blood-red halo above his head, and gently pulled it outward.

The halo enlarged, surrounding him, and various guns appeared above it.

Bai Long quickly scanned the guns, and his gaze soon stopped on one pair.

Yeah, those would do.

He reached out and took the two guns from the halo.

They were a pair of black-and-white pistols, simple in design but exuding a sharp aura.

Although if he had refreshed the halo, Bai Long could surely have found the more famous pair of black-and-white pistols, but these two suited the current scene better.

Bai Long adjusted his stance.

In his right hand, he held horizontally the white gun with a silvery-white and golden sheen.

In his left hand, he held vertically the black gun made of black bronze.

On the white gun’s body were engraved the words “Reilly Arms Company .454 Casull Auto.”

On the black gun’s body were clearly engraved the words “Jesus Christ is now in heaven.”

The white pistol’s body rested against the black pistol’s near the grip.

The weapons in his hands formed an inverted cross.

An inverted cross represented humility.
