Lu Chen quickly looked away.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing.”
Jiang Huaiyu placed the spirit fruit on the table and sat down across from him.
Her bare feet instinctively curled back, hiding beneath her skirt.
“This dress…” she said, her voice as soft as a mosquito’s hum, her head lowered.
“I bought it a while ago, but I never dared to wear it.”
“Today… I figured since it’s just the two of us at home…”
Lu Chen didn’t dare respond.
He buried his head in his meal.
Jiang Huaiyu said nothing more, eating in small bites, occasionally picking up food for him.
The atmosphere was quiet, but not as natural as at noon.
An indescribable ambiguity filled the air.
Lu Chen’s mind was a mess.
Wang Feng’s haggard face lingered in his head, and the woman gently putting food on his plate was the very person Wang Feng was looking for.
He had to speak up.
“Senior Sister.”
Jiang Huaiyu looked up at him.
“I have good news for you.”
“What good news?”
“Senior Brother Wang…” Lu Chen paused.
“He regrets it.”
Jiang Huaiyu’s hand, holding her chopsticks, froze.
“He called us over today to say that.”
“He said he was wrong and wants to apologize to you.”
“He doesn’t care whose daughter it is, she’s still his daughter, and no one can change that.”
“He also said that if you forgive him, he’ll kneel at your door every day.”
“You can hit him, yell at him, whatever you want, as long as you come back.”
Jiang Huaiyu didn’t speak.
She just kept her head down.
“Senior Sister?”
“Let’s eat.”
“Let the past be the past.”
Her voice was faint, as if she were talking about something trivial.
Lu Chen was dumbfounded.
He hadn’t expected this reaction.
She could be angry.
She could be aggrieved.
But not calm.
“But Senior Brother truly repents…”
“I know,” Jiang Huaiyu cut him off.
“But some things can’t be undone just because someone repents, don’t you think?”
As she spoke, her gaze was fixed on Lu Chen, tender as if she were looking at something precious.
After these days together, she truly believed that Lu Chen had the charm, looks, and gentle nature that moved her heart.
With him, she would find real happiness.
And she wouldn’t have to suffer anymore.
Lu Chen felt uncomfortable under her gaze and looked down to eat.
But Jiang Huaiyu didn’t seem willing to let him off.
He didn’t notice when she had moved to sit beside him.
She was too close.
So close that Lu Chen could clearly smell her fragrance.
Worse, Jiang Huaiyu had somehow shifted her leg, accidentally brushing his knee.
She didn’t pull away.
Instead, she seemed to casually press in even closer.
Lu Chen’s whole body stiffened.
“Senior Sister…”
“Hmm?”
“What’s wrong?”
Lu Chen opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but his mind went blank.
She was right there, within arm’s reach.
Her cold, ethereal face now brimmed with tenderness, and Lu Chen suddenly felt an inexplicable urge.
He had no idea what was wrong with him today, but once the thought surfaced, it became uncontrollable.
Lu Chen quickly lowered his head and shoveled food into his mouth.
Seeing his flustered state, a hint of a smile flickered in Jiang Huaiyu’s eyes.
She shifted another inch closer, and their knees were now completely touching.
Lu Chen felt all his blood rush to his face.
He couldn’t eat anymore.
“Why did you stop?”
“Are you full?” Jiang Huaiyu’s voice sounded by his ear, carrying a fragrant breeze.
“No, it’s not that.” Lu Chen didn’t dare look at her.
“I’m just a bit hot.”
“Hot?” Jiang Huaiyu tilted her head and looked at him, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly.
She raised her hand and gently pressed it against his forehead.
“Not hot at all.”
Even as she said that, she didn’t pull her hand back.
“!!!”
“What are you afraid of?” Jiang Huaiyu leaned in closer.
“Of me…?”
“No… Calm down!”
“I’m calm.”
“Calmer than I’ve ever been.”
“Senior Sister… go back to your seat, and let’s talk properly!”
“I don’t want to go back.” Her voice carried a firmness that brooked no refusal.
“I want to sit right here.”
As she spoke, she pressed even closer.
This time, it wasn’t her knee but her thigh.
Lu Chen’s brain buzzed, as if something had snapped.
Seeing him like this, the moisture in Jiang Huaiyu’s eyes grew, but the curve of her lips became more pronounced.
Lu Chen finally realized something was wrong.
They were too close.
This wasn’t right.
This was very wrong.
But why was he so passive?
Could it be…?
This woman was no good person!
“Senior Sister, listen to me.” Lu Chen gritted his teeth.
“You’re just acting on impulse right now.”
“Senior Brother Wang’s situation has gotten to your emotions.”
“You’ll calm down in a moment…”
“Lu Chen,” she interrupted him.
“Your heart is beating so fast.”
Lu Chen froze.
“I can hear it.”
“It’s been beating fast for a while now.”
Lu Chen opened his mouth to speak, but his throat felt dry as if it were about to smoke.
Then Jiang Huaiyu moved.
She rose gently, her skirt brushing his knee, and in the next second, she was sitting sideways on his lap.
Lu Chen’s mind exploded, as if something had completely detonated.
“Senior Sister…” His voice was hoarse, not even sounding like his own.
“Do you know what you’re doing?”
“I do,” Jiang Huaiyu said softly, her gaze falling on his face, tender enough to melt.
“I’m doing something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.”
