Chapter 1: Shattered Hopes and Sudden Realities

Strike to Your Heart,

abbreviated as Nemas, is, as the title suggests, a romantic comedy disguised as a baseball story.

It’s a novel I enjoy quite a bit.

No, it’s more than just “quite a bit.” For the past two years, I’ve been obsessed with this novel.

How obsessed, you ask?

[Support Ranking]

Miyeon Teacher Fan: 6,500,000 won.

GOD Hayoon: 577,000 won.

Hayoon Hayoon : 489,000 won.

I ranked 1st in the novel’s support rankings.

Whenever my favorite character, Miyeon Lee, appears, I throw in 100,000 won.

If her scenes are long and exciting, I toss in 200,000… sometimes 300,000, and that’s how it added up.

Anyway, I’m that invested in this work—no, in the character Miyeon Teacher.

Now, is Miyeon a character worth the 6.5 million won I’ve donated?

I can’t say so confidently.

In fact, she’s a somewhat unpopular character.

She’s just my type.

She’s the sunflower heroine who only has eyes for the main character, and she’s also a 25-year-old newly appointed “teacher.”

Both of these elements are things I absolutely love.

Plus, Miyeon is a huge baseball fan, which makes her even more irresistible to me!

But, Miyeon is obviously not the main heroine—she’s the side heroine.

Realistically, there’s no hope for a Miyeon ending.

This has been bothering me lately, especially as Nemas is nearing its conclusion, and the story is clearly building towards an ending with the main heroine, Hayoon Shin.

“At least there’ll be a side story…”

This is one of the strengths of Nemas‘ author.

They always release side stories for the side heroines.

The author has finished three novels, and all of them had side stories for side heroines.

That’s why I’ve kept following Nemas this long.

Even if Miyeon doesn’t get her ending in the main story, there will be a side story, and I won’t have to watch her fall apart miserably.

I manipulated my phone and entered the Nemas page.

As I moved my fingers to click on the latest chapter, something felt off.

[#238 Strike to Your Heart! – An Impossible Love..]

The subtitle was “An Impossible Love.”

In the last chapter, the main heroine Hayoon confessed to the main character, Jiho, and that’s where it ended.

So with a title like this, could it be…?

“Hayoon gets rejected, and Miyeon gets the ending?”

My fingers hurriedly clicked on the latest chapter.

[Hayoon closed her eyes tightly and shouted loudly, “I like you! Jiho! I really like you!”]

[Jiho looked at her blankly for a moment… then smiled and hugged her.]

“???”

They got together?

Despite the subtitle, they’re hugging each other with tears and snot, making for a very emotional scene.

Wait, could this “impossible love” be about…

No, that can’t be.

This author is known for giving side heroines their moments in side stories.

Surely they wouldn’t throw in a rejection scene in the main story.

There are several heroines, so it’s unlikely they’d include scenes of all of them getting rejected.

For now, I continued reading Nemas.

However, the more I read, the more my anxiety grew.

The plot suddenly took a sharp turn, and now the main couple is planning to get married?

“No way… Is the ‘impossible love’ referring to Seojia?”

Seojia is the most popular character among the side heroines.

But now, Hayoon has sent a wedding invitation to Seojia, pulling off some sort of teasing?

At least it’s not Miyeon, so I thought that was a relief.

[“Wait… Jiho is getting married? Out of nowhere…?”]

[“Teacher, will you come?”]

[“Um… Yeah, I’ll go.”]

Next up was Miyeon.

“This is… unbelievable…”

A sigh escaped me as I felt a knot in my stomach.

Is this what it feels like to get emotionally hurt?

I briefly put my phone down to clear my head…

Then I decided to keep watching.

I already knew there’d be a rejection…

I just thought they wouldn’t include that scene.

“Let’s just watch… and wait for the side story.”

After all, I have feelings for this series, so I should stick it out until the last chapter, right?

However, the more I read, the more I questioned whether this was even right.

There’s a limit to how abruptly a plot can shift; they’ve been sending wedding invitations to all the side heroines, and now they’re headed straight to the wedding ceremony.

It feels like they’re wrapping it up this way.

“No way… Is the author out of their mind?”

I couldn’t help but curse.

I usually avoid criticizing authors, but I couldn’t contain myself when I saw the line that said only Miyeon attended the wedding from among the side heroines.

That alone was hard to understand, but they’re even describing the main couple’s wedding from Miyeon’s perspective.

Is this really a way to mess with Miyeon fans?

[“They look good together… I should be congratulating them…”]

[“Miyeon forced a smile, clapping and cheering.”]

[“Staring blankly at the groom and bride, Miyeon quietly left the venue and went to the bathroom…”]

[“Only then did she start to cry softly… in a stall.”]

“…No, what the…?”

I was left speechless.

All sorts of thoughts flooded my mind, but it was hard to express them.

What is the author trying to say here?

Not only did they send wedding invitations, but they also made Miyeon attend the ceremony, only to end with her crying in a bathroom stall?

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, so I read on, but there was no twist.

The main couple happily tied the knot, while Miyeon was left crying in the bathroom, and that was how it ended.

Just that alone felt like it would drive me insane.

But the author’s note was the final blow.

The author’s note read:

“Thank you for loving Nemas until now! I’ll post a detailed review later!”

Many people are asking for side stories, but I’m sorry. There won’t be any side stories for this work!

“…Wow, that’s painful…”

When I think about it rationally,

The thought that there would be a side story came from my complacent assumption, as all three previous works had them.

So I can understand that part, but did Miyeon really have to be treated this miserably?

I wouldn’t mind if the other side heroines showed up, but it’s just Miyeon being singled out.

And to have the wedding from Miyeon’s perspective is just… I really can’t comprehend that.

I thought the comments section might reflect similar reactions, so I opened it up.

[GOD Hayoon: “Chicken coop cut! ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Where are you going, ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Is the no-good guy looking at the main character’s spot? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Good job, author!”]
(Upvotes: 1237) (Downvotes: 38)

[Seojia: “Is it possible to wrap up so perfectly…?”]
(Yoon: “Seriously.”)
(Upvotes: 1167) (Downvotes: 38)

[Jiagia: “Wow;; I’m frustrated as a Jiagia fan, but what the heck is with Miyeon…?”]
(Upvotes: 1068) (Downvotes: 123)

“Seriously, does Hayoon’s team only care about their favorite heroine’s success?”

Do they really think this abrupt conclusion is good?

What’s even more infuriating is that there’s no mention of Miyeon in the best comments.

At least the Jiagia team briefly mentioned her, but that’s it.

“I really didn’t want to go this far…”

I pressed the note-writing button.

No, regardless of everything, this is too much.

I have to say something.

[“Isn’t this just too much, author? This is way too abrupt. What do you mean by throwing us this conclusion?”]

I intended to end it there, but my note kept growing…

[Word count: 5700]

Oh no, it became 5700 characters.

I felt like I had turned into a reader villain roaming the community.

Wait, why am I a villain?

The author threw the first punch.

Having donated 6.5 million won, I think I deserve to say at least one thing, right?

I hit the send button.

While I was looking for another novel to soothe my emotional wounds from Nemas,

I received a notification.

[You have a reply!]

I didn’t expect a reply from the author.

But it seems they’re at least showing some concern for the supporters.

My anger subsided a little.

I opened the reply.

[“So, would you like to write it yourself, dear reader?”]

“…What the hell.”

I hadn’t expected a reply at all,

But I certainly didn’t imagine it would be a “If you’re mad, then you write it yourself.”

I was just about to click the delete button for my favorite works when I felt a surge of annoyance and wrote another note.

[“I’ll write it, so hand over the rights.”]

I was about to turn off my phone after sending it when—

-Ding!

Soon, an alert rang.

It was a reply.

[“Haha! I’ll hand over the rights, so do well.”]

“What is this…?”

The request for the rights was thrown out in a fit of anger, but they accepted it like this?

I thought the author was joking, so I was about to turn off my phone when—

Thud.

Suddenly, I felt intense dizziness, causing me to drop my phone.

“Ugh…!”

A crushing headache hit me, and the world seemed to spin around.

I tried to bite down hard to keep from losing consciousness, but soon everything went dark.
