Chapter 17: Gacha is hell.

Thanks to Seoha noona’s advice, I felt slightly more at ease as I welcomed the next morning.

[Avor announces the launch of the new internet broadcasting platform ‘Cheeze.’]

Just as Seoha noona mentioned yesterday, news about the new platform started pouring in. It was as if an embargo had been lifted.
According to the article below, their primary goal is to accommodate existing Twip viewers, aiming to create a system and UI that is as similar as possible, while also allowing subscriptions to carry over.
Everything is just as Seoha noona had told me.

“So, are you thinking of moving over there?”

“For now, yes. I still need to think it over a bit more, though…”

As I sat down with a modest breakfast that included soybean paste stew, I talked with noona while carefully reading through the article again, just in case I missed something.

“Wherever you go, you’ll do fine. Don’t overthink it.”

Noona stroked my head as if I were a child, comforting me with her words, which embarrassed me. I weakly swatted her hand away.
She still thinks I’m a kid.

“Don’t worry about me, noona. Just make sure you stay healthy abroad. You’re leaving the day after tomorrow, right?”

“Yeah, I’m meeting up with some friends today, and then I’ll rest up before I leave. Paris Fashion Week is next month.”

“Hmm…”

Paris Fashion Week.
I don’t know much about that world, but just hearing the name makes it sound impressive. Noona, on the other hand, wasn’t even the least bit nervous. In fact, she seemed excited, her eyes sparkling.
Well, she’ll do just fine, even without me saying anything. After all, Kang Yeonju isn’t just anyone.

“Well, good luck. I can’t be there, but I’ll be cheering for you from home.”

“What’s this? Since when did my little brother say such sweet things?”

“I do when I need to, okay? Stop treating me like some emotionless robot…”

I avoided noona’s hand as she tried to stroke my head again and instead placed a piece of freshly grilled mackerel on top of her rice.
Noona stared at it for a moment, then thanked me before taking a big bite, her face lighting up with happiness as she continued eating.

‘Cosmo has started streaming.’

‘Last Destiny ad broadcast’

After making sure noona had lunch and seeing her off, I turned on my stream at 6 PM, just like always.
It’s unfortunate that the house is going to burn down, but I got paid, so I still need to do my job. This is, after all, my very first advertisement stream.

【ProtectCosmo】 – Koha!
[BaekhwaYoran] – First ad, congrats
【SquidSashimi】 – Ceiling prayers

The familiar usernames of most of my viewers filled the chat right after I started the stream.
Since they knew it was an ad stream, I expected them to join later due to it being less interesting, but I was grateful to see many of my regular viewers show up early.
Except for the guy praying for ceiling-tier gacha results before we even started. I’m seriously tempted to ban him.

“Hey everyone, welcome. You all know what’s happening today, right? It’s my first ad stream, so let’s keep things fun and positive. No need for anyone to get hurt, right?”

I issued a preemptive warning, just in case any trolls showed up to disrupt the chat before the ad stream started.

[SoySauceWithSeafood] – Oh no
【NextDoorHani】 – Oh no
【ElephantCheer】 – LOL
[tws2425] – If you mess with the sponsor, it’s game over LOL

Though my comment was brief, everyone seemed to understand the message, so I didn’t need to explain further.
My viewers really do catch on quickly. It’s just that they occasionally do dumb things.

“Alright then, let’s get started with the ad stream. Today’s game is ‘Last Destiny,’ a mobile collectible RPG developed by SV Studio.”

I launched the game I had downloaded onto my PC earlier, and as the heavy and grand BGM played, the title screen of ‘Last Destiny’—commonly called ‘Latudi’—appeared.
The screen displayed the bold title ‘LAST DESTINY,’ with two female characters on either side in a confrontational stance, each boasting impressive visuals.

Wow, even though I saw this at AGP, the main screen still looks amazing.

【MoscowSays】 – Wow, looks super fun
【CroMagnonMan】 – Gotta try it out
【AlpacaHunter】 – Buy it now!

What the heck, guys? The game hasn’t even finished loading yet. And this isn’t some package game you can just buy!
I smirked at the ridiculous comments filling the chat and waited for the game to finish loading. When it finally did, I clicked to start playing.

-Commander! Get a grip!

The game kicked off with a familiar line, the kind you’d hear in countless other mobile RPGs.
My character blinked several times, and in the brief moment between, a massive something, barely contained by the uniform, jiggled dramatically.

It must be the owner of that voice.
Though I’ve seen it before, it still feels overly blatant. Our viewers would lose interest in this kind of thing…
【ElephantCheer】 – Oh yeah!
【Bera666】 – Oh yeah!
【PinkRabbit】 – This game is god-tier.

…Yeah, of course. Losing interest? More like they’re totally into it. These guys are really enjoying it.
Just from the chat alone, I can picture their faces. These guys are always so honest about their desires.

As I added some reactions and continued through the tutorial story, I soon found my character wandering around in a city.
Since it’s an open-world, collectible RPG, the surrounding scenery was clearly visible, and the quality was quite good. It could even compete with some of the popular overseas RPGs in terms of graphics.

“Wow, don’t you think the graphics are great? It feels more like a PC game than a mobile game, right?”

【ProtectCosmo】 – It looks really pretty.
【MultitaskMaster】 – For real, it looks like a PC game.
【JebiTshuriSal】 – Well, it did release on PC too, but still, the quality is insane.

I wasn’t just saying this because it was an ad stream—the quality was truly impressive, and the viewers’ reactions showed it. Even the wind seemed to make the clothes flutter.
Honestly, if I tried to run this on a phone, it would probably turn into a hand warmer.

Although I wanted to explore the map more, I knew what the viewers were really waiting for, so I cleared my throat and clicked the menu.

“Alright, we’ve seen the story and finished the tutorial. Now, what’s the highlight of any collectible RPG, folks?”

【TeacherSnitch】 – Gacha time!
【WhiteForest】 – Gacha time!
【ElephantCheer】 – Please, ceiling-tier, please, ceiling-tier, please, ceiling-tier!

As expected of a much-anticipated gacha stream, the chat began speeding up.
Some viewers were still hoping for me to hit the ceiling, huh? If I really do hit it, you’re all getting at least a one-hour mute.

“My target today is ‘Asticia,’ the current pickup character. She’s got black hair and a cool older-sister vibe, which is totally my style.”

【LucidDream7】 – The streamer likes black hair? Disappointing.
【GlassesAndLocks】 – Man of culture.
【ElephantCheer】 – How could you resist a black-haired older sister?

【CatfishBroccoli】 – Nah, silver hair is the ultimate truth.

Sigh, these uncultured fools. Everyone knows that a black-haired, graceful older-sister character is the peak of truth. You’re all disqualified as my viewers.

【ProtectCosmo】 – Do you like black-haired older women, Cosmo?

“Do I like black-haired older women? Well, yeah. At least in the realm of subculture characters, that’s the type that hits the mark for me.”

I wouldn’t know much about real-life women since I barely meet any, but in anime and games, that’s my favorite heroine type.
Although, for some reason, the tone of the viewer’s question felt less about characters and more like they were asking about my type in real life. Is it just my imagination?

“Anyway, today I’m going to show you what I’m made of. My gacha luck is actually pretty good, you know?”

【RandomAppleUser】 – ?
【CroMagnonMan】 – Oh, okay…
【K-HipHopKingCosmo】 – Says the guy who hit the ceiling twice recently.

Oh, shut up. That was just because I wasn’t feeling well at the time. I often pull pickup characters in single or 10-draws, alright?
Watch closely, haters. I’m about to show you my true skills.

[Mission – Pull the character within 50 draws: 50,000 won]
[Mission – Pull the character within 10 draws: 10,000 won]

As I channeled all the luck of the universe into my next ten pulls, some cheeky viewers dared to challenge me with missions.

Actually, this is good. If I can snag both the gacha pity and the mission money, it’ll be sweet. Just don’t come crying to me later, asking for a refund.

“Here we gooooo!”
With all my might, I let out a shout and pressed the ‘Special Summon’ button on the bottom right.
But the result was:

【HundredBlossoms】 – Hahahahahahahaha!
【FrogGoneAway】 – Nope, nothing’s coming~

Except for the guaranteed SR in the 10-draw, I only got basic R-ranked characters.
But there’s still hope. Since it’s a release event, they’re giving out a lot of free currency. I can at least do 30 more draws.
It’s too early to give up just yet.

Click.
With renewed determination, I went for another 10-draw.
“Huh…?”
Only two SRs and eight Rs.
Getting one more SR than before just feels like they’re mocking me. It’s infuriating.
Meanwhile, the chat has turned into a complete party.

Swish!
The sound of the gacha spinning played again, but still no sign of the golden glow that signals an SSR.
Where’s the gold? Where is it!?

“Hooo…”
After burning through the 50 free draws, I took a deep breath and tried to calm down.
Yeah, thinking I’d get anything in just 50 pulls was too hopeful. The ceiling is at 200 pulls, so at least 100 pulls are necessary.

“Fine, let’s see who wins this…”

【ElephantCheer】 – Yep, you’re going all the way to the ceiling!
【WhiteForest】 – Mad at just 50 pulls?
【SeafoodSauce】 – This guy has no shame, hahahaha!

As the mocking chat messages poured in, I realized I had no choice but to dip into my own wallet and buy a package.
Yeah, I’m getting paid for this ad anyway, so I might as well invest a bit.
Just as I was about to open the in-game shop, fully ready to hit the ceiling, it happened:

【’ProtectCosmo’ donated 1,000,000 KRW】

  • Please get the character!!!

“Chairman…!?”
Suddenly, the Chairman had dropped a huge donation on me.
This was enough to reach the ceiling and then some. My eyes nearly popped out of my head.
That’s it—I’m invincible now. Nothing can scare me.

“Understood, Chairman! I’ll throw my entire wallet into this!”
What can you do to stop me with your gacha nonsense? What can you do in the face of the Chairman’s overwhelming generosity!?

With a solid backing, I bought almost every package available in the shop.
“Aaaaaaaah!”
At long last, after hitting the ceiling, I finally came face-to-face with Asticia.
Ugh, this ad stream is turning into pure agony.
