The Boy and the Young Woman

Chapter 13718 words6 min read

Xiao Su and Lin Cheng both watched in slight disbelief as Xia Chen casually finished a bottle of beer and set it down on the table.

Then he calmly looked at Lin Cheng.

“Miss, does the beer not taste good?”

Miss?

He called her “Miss”?

Wait, does he not understand what counts as older or younger?

No matter how you look at it, she seemed older than him, right?

And as Lin Cheng lowered her head, she glanced at her well-proportioned curves and her long, fair legs.

Hmm, no matter how you judge it, she definitely shouldn’t be called a “little girl,” especially in front of this boy.

“Uh… haha, um, beautiful lady, please don’t mind him. He’s new here and doesn’t know the rules! How about I change someone for you?”

Faced with Xiao Su’s quick attempt to smooth things over,

Lin Cheng looked at Xiao Su, then at Xia Chen, who remained completely calm, showing not the slightest awareness that he had done anything wrong.

Why did this boy look like he was deliberately acting this way just to annoy her into leaving?

Wait.

Lin Cheng suddenly realized something troubling.

In front of this boy, she seemed to have become someone completely lacking in charm.

Was that even possible? A woman like her had zero impact on a boy of his age? Was this some kind of test of her attractiveness?

The more she thought about it, the more serious it felt.

So she shook her head, raised her brows slightly, lifted her chin, and put on a proud, aloof expression—yet what she said was:

“No, it’s fine. Let it be him. He’s… interesting.”

“Huh?”

Xiao Su didn’t really understand what was going on between the two, but there were rules in the club.

He couldn’t pay too much attention here and neglect his own guest.

After glancing over and confirming that the two didn’t look like they were about to fight, he turned back to focus on accompanying Sun Yaming.

Still, he didn’t want the atmosphere to become too awkward, so he stood up.

“Um, Sister Sun, what song would you like to sing? I’ll pick one for you.”

Sun Yaming smiled.

“You sing. I like listening to you sing.”

“Alright!”

So Xiao Su went to select a song, leaving Xia Chen and Lin Cheng sitting together.

That’s right.

Lin Cheng didn’t back down either. She leaned against the sofa, holding a beer bottle.

Normally, she rarely responded to others striking up conversations, but driven by some subtle emotion, she actually took the initiative to speak, looking at the boy’s delicate face.

“You’re new here?”

Xia Chen nodded.

“Been here less than two hours longer than you.”

Hearing this, Lin Cheng was taken aback. Was this guy just some temporary worker picked up from somewhere?

After thinking for a moment, she raised her bottle.

“Well, what a coincidence. I picked you right after arriving. The drink I didn’t have earlier—I’ll have it now.”

Holding the bottle, Lin Cheng downed it in one go right in front of Xia Chen.

Xia Chen calmly watched this woman, who, despite her cold and elegant demeanor, acted decisively without hesitation.

Then he said softly,

“Not bad tolerance. But young ladies shouldn’t drink too much outside.”

Hearing this, Lin Cheng let out a cold laugh.

With the alcohol already in her system, she seemed to gain a sudden burst of boldness.

She looked at Xia Chen.

“You keep calling me ‘young lady.’ Are you that old? And what kind of outdated thinking is that? Plenty of girls drink outside.”

Hearing the irritation in her voice, Xia Chen didn’t get angry.

He simply leaned lazily against the sofa.

“I’m not that old. But I’m not younger than you either.
Just because others do something, you do it too… instead of doing it because you want to… what’s the point of that?”

Lin Cheng hadn’t expected that this was only their third exchange.

Such a simple conversation, even ordinary on the surface.

And yet, it made her want to continue talking with him. The feeling was strange.

But Lin Cheng couldn’t lie to herself.
