The Amnesiac Girl With Purple Eyes… We Had to Give Her a Name

Chapter 11,889 words16 min read

“Doctor! Dr. Hadi! … Doc—”
A faint, muffled voice drifted in from afar.

Her still-unopened eyes trembled slightly in response to the faint light, but there was no sign of waking.

“What’s going on here? I don’t recall having a patient like this.”
A man’s confused voice.

“She is…”
A woman’s voice spoke timidly.

“Fine! And you expect me to believe your nonsense?”
The man beside her replied, his deep voice tinged with anger.

A soft sigh, laced with irritation.
One could imagine the woman rubbing her forehead in frustration.
Then she spoke again, her tone calm and certain, pushing back the man’s anger.
“With all due respect, I’m not talking nonsense, Dr. Hadi.”

A brief silence.
Dr. Hadi, his voice now composed again, questioned her.

“Do you have solid evidence?”

“Follow me.”

The sound of a door being pushed open, followed by a slightly rough “thud!” as it closed.
The room fell silent once more.

No one knew how much time passed.
Outside the door, a commotion began and continued for a while.
After some time, the noise finally faded, and the door opened…

What happened next never registered in her consciousness.

* * * *

The half-open window let in the cool morning breeze,
and also carried into the hospital room the music playing from the square not far away.

The distant melody drifted by her ears, touching the patient’s heart.

The patient, who had been lying motionless on the bed, suddenly sat upright without any warning and opened her eyes.

“Sigh.”
A faint sigh.
The nurse pulled her head back in from the window, stared straight at the sky outside for a moment, then closed the window.
She shook her head and reminded herself, “Work! Work!”

She turned, took a few steps toward the door, then suddenly stopped.
She went back to the window, rubbed her forehead as if she had a headache,
then resolutely turned toward the bed.
The sight that met her eyes made the nurse almost cry out in surprise.
But her reflexes seemed good—she covered her mouth with both hands just before she could scream.

“You~!”

The patient’s purple pupils, which had been staring straight ahead, suddenly turned toward the source of the voice.
Her pale, thin face showed no expression.
Though her eyes were directed at the nurse, they weren’t really seeing her—
they seemed to be looking at something far away, filled with emptiness.

The nurse swallowed nervously and asked hesitantly, “You’re awake?”

No answer.

“Thirsty? How about… this sister gets you a glass of water?”
The nurse changed the subject.

Still no response.

The nurse rubbed her head again in frustration.
“Wait here. Sister will be right back!”
With that, she sprinted toward the door.
“Bam!”
The door was roughly opened and closed.
The room fell silent again, save for the sound of the nurse’s retreating footsteps.

Soon, the nurse returned with the doctor.
Without a word, Dr. Hadi crouched by the bed and examined the patient.
Finally, he shone a flashlight into her forcibly pried-open eyes.

After the examination, the doctor slowly stood up, looking drained.
He let out a slow breath, as if finally relieved.

“Fuzi, go make the arrangements.”

“Yes, sir.”
A simple command and reply.
Fuzi left the room.

He closed his eyes, exhaled again, and let his expression relax.
Dr. Hadi smiled and waved his hand in front of the patient.

No reaction.

Dr. Hadi produced a lollipop from somewhere and waved it in front of her again.
“Want some candy?”

No reaction.

Still smiling, Dr. Hadi froze for a moment with the candy in his hand,
then did something he himself considered shameless.
“No? Heh heh, then I’ll eat it!”
With a blissful expression, he brought the candy toward his mouth.

The purple pupils moved.
They turned toward Hadi.

Hadi froze again, the candy still at his lips.
He lowered his hand, head drooping, back slightly hunched—looking somewhat dejected.
Then he resolutely looked up.
“You think I’ll still give it to you after you refused?”
He prepared to put the candy in his mouth again.

“Are you a child or what!?”
Fuzi shot Hadi a displeased look and snatched the candy from his hand in a flash.

Hadi turned his head with an expression like he was about to cry, and called out in a heartbroken voice, “My assistant doesn’t want me anymore!”
Then he collapsed to his knees.

Ignoring Hadi, who was putting on a show of grief beside her, Fuzi showed the patient a gentle smile.
“Do you want it?”
She shook it in front of the purple pupils, just like Hadi had done.

The purple pupils moved.
They looked at Fuzi.

Still smiling, Fuzi immediately popped the candy into the patient’s soft pink mouth.

The purple pupils suddenly widened.
A faint blush accompanied the movement.
With her large, glistening eyes and slightly flushed pale cheeks, she looked quite adorable.

Fuzi found herself staring in fascination and couldn’t help murmuring in an enchanted tone, “So cute~!”
Then she reached out and pinched the patient’s cheek.

The patient shyly turned her face away,
but Fuzi immediately positioned her own face in front of the patient’s, not letting her escape.
This time, the patient didn’t look away.
Her purple pupils stared directly at Fuzi’s face, still expressionless.

Fuzi smiled.
“My name is Yue Fuzi. Nice to meet you!”
She extended her right hand and winked playfully.

No reaction.
The patient just stared blankly at Fuzi.

Fuzi wasn’t upset.
She smiled again, then took the patient’s left hand—the one without the IV—and shook it.
“What’s your name?”

The purple pupils showed confusion.
She lowered her head and fell silent.

“I see.”
Fuzi’s voice and face showed a hint of sadness, matching her slightly sorrowful tone.
But only for a moment.
She composed herself, withdrew her right hand,
then rested her left hand on her hip, her right hand supporting her chin in a thinking pose.
Her eyes roamed over the girl’s body, finally stopping at her unusual pink hair.
Her mind churned, searching for something.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up.
“Ah! Lian… Chen Lian! Yue Chenlian—how does that sound?”

“Yue… Chenlian?”
The first sound the girl had made since waking up—
a slightly delicate yet calm, beautiful voice.

“Waaah~~! So cute!”
Fuzi said, entranced, and couldn’t resist pinching Chenlian’s cheek again.

“Chenlian, huh? Mm, mm—not bad. Quite fitting!”
After a moment’s thought, Hadi gave a thumbs-up.

But Chenlian remained expressionless, just staring blankly at the wall, her face full of confusion.

“Ehh~!”
Fuzi let out a disappointed cry—she had probably expected Chenlian to love it.
“You don’t like the name Chenlian? There’s no way you don’t like it, right!?”
She even asked in a cutesy voice at the end.

But the girl named Yue Chenlian shook her head vigorously.

Fuzi was overjoyed.
She clapped her hands together and laughed.
“So you do like it! That’s great~! Ah, right!”
She suddenly paused as if something had occurred to her.
“You must be hungry! Sister Fuzi will go get you something to eat!”
With that, she flew out the door again.
“Bam!”

“Fuzi! It’s you again—didn’t I tell you multiple times not to—”
A man’s scolding voice.

“I know, I know!”
Fuzi replied impatiently as she faded into the distance.

“Hah~”
Hadi exhaled again and scratched his head.
“Ah, I have things to do too.”
He also headed for the door.
Before leaving, he didn’t forget to turn back and instruct,
“Stay put for now, Chenlian. Don’t move around. Fuzi will be right back!”

Chenlian nodded silently in response.
Reassured, Hadi left.

The door opened and closed.
The room fell back into silence.

“Room 207. This is it. Let’s go in.”
Muffled voices outside the door.
Someone was about to come in!

The door opened gently, but no one entered.

“At a time like this, what are you hesitating for? Get in there already!”
A clear girl’s voice.
Then a boy with disheveled hair was pushed inside.
He was dragging his feet the whole way, trying to stop himself.
Behind him was a girl with glossy, jet-black long hair.
Though she wasn’t as tall as the boy, she stood around 164 cm,
her slender figure looking especially elongated—unquestionably a beautiful girl.

Chenlian’s purple pupils turned toward the two, but she showed no sign of speaking.

The girl turned and closed the door, then pushed the boy in front of Chenlian.

The boy’s body was tense.
With an unnatural smile on his face, he greeted her in a stiff tone.
“Hello.”

Chenlian tilted her head in confusion.
Her pink hair slid off her shoulder.
Her purple pupils looked at him blankly.

Being stared at made the boy even more awkward.
His stiff smile turned into a twitching, expressionless face.
His cheeks were bright red.

The girl beside him sighed and raised her voice to greet Chenlian.
“Hello! My name is Lin Yuxuan. And this stiff guy here is Ye Qing.”

“Hey! Who are you calling a stiff guy!”
The boy, who had been so awkward a moment ago, immediately shot back.

“What’s your name?”

Chenlian lowered her head, thought for a moment, then answered, “Chenlian. Yue Chenlian.”
Like repeating Fuzi’s words, she gave her name to them.

““Chenlian!””
Two voices overlapped—
Lin Yuxuan repeating the name to confirm, and Fuzi calling out to Chenlian.
Fuzi rushed in with a lunchbox in her hand,
but saw the people she had expected.
Her face, which had been full of smiles, immediately turned serious.

“You’re here. Ye Qing, Lin Yuxuan.”
She deliberately called out their names.

“Hello, Sister Fuzi!”
Lin Yuxuan smiled and bowed.

Ye Qing simply nodded slightly in greeting.

“Mm.”
Fuzi nodded in response.
Then, carrying the lunchbox, she walked up to Chenlian and smiled.
“Here, Chenlian. Eat something.”
She opened the lunchbox and placed it on the bedside table.
“We’ll be transferring soon, so fill your stomach first!”

““Transfer!?””
They both exclaimed in unison.

“Yes. We’re going to take Chenlian to a private clinic.”
Fuzi replied flatly.
Then she picked up a piece of meat roll with her chopsticks and brought it to Chenlian’s mouth.
“Ahh~n!”

Lin Yuxuan and Ye Qing couldn’t help but show astonished expressions.
[She’s feeding her!?]

Chenlian looked at the food for a moment.
Just when everyone thought she wouldn’t eat,
“Ahh~n!”
Her small mouth actually bit half of the meat roll in one go.
Even Fuzi, who was feeding her, was startled, her expression completely frozen.

Chew, chew.
“Gulp.”
She swallowed.
Chenlian had done something terrifying, all without changing her expression.

[A hungry wolf?]

Fuzi brought the remaining half of the meat roll to Chenlian’s mouth.
Chew, chew.
“Gulp.”

And so it went.
Before long, the food in the lunchbox had been completely cleaned out.

Chew, chew.
“Gulp.”
After swallowing the last meat roll, Chenlian looked like she could still eat more.

Fuzi looked at the spotlessly clean lunchbox and gave a wry smile.
It seemed she would need to prepare more food from now on.
